  1. he mood is one of abundant joy and happiness.. as reflected in the bhajan ‘Vande Vistruta Locanam’ (Album : Mata; Track 4) sung by His Holiness. Passing clouds, waterfalls, piggy banks, and some happy graphics make this MMS a peppy & thought provoking experience. At the surface this MMS looks similar to MMS 86 ( True joy is in giving, not in receiving ). Scratch the surface and you will see this is different.. this is about material wealth in particular.

‘Good fortune’ here connotes material wealth that one is lucky to get. Isn’t material wealth so transient, like the passing clouds seen in the opening frames here? As if to rub in this idea, the same frame invokes Mata as Sanatanayai.. Sanatana – meaning permanent, eternal. She is permanent, she is eternal. What a contrast ? And you hear His Holiness singing “ Vande (I praise) vistruta ( wide, broad ) locanam (eyes); Ananda ( Joy ) amruta (nectar) secanam ( pouring out ); Antar ( inner ) mohon ( attractions ) mocanam (liberate)” – “I praise Her, whose wide broad eyes are pouring out joy and nectar, which liberate me from my inner attractions ( to wealth in this context )”.

Why should Devi liberate us from that ‘moha’ for wealth ? Our wealth may be as small as in a piggy bank.. but when we share it with others, the happiness multiplies and pours like multiple waterfalls.. as we see in this MMS. But that sharing cannot happen unless she liberates us from that ‘moha’. That’s why. The concluding invocation of ‘Sarvamatre’ (Mother of all).. further glorifies the virtue of sharing our fortune.. Have you ever seen a mother who did not share her wealth with her children? .

We can’t be happy when people around us are unhappy. And when people around us are happy, we are much more happier. So, His Holiness in his compassion for us, has devised somany ways through which we can share our fortune. Hanuman Sethu Bandha, Share your food, Nitya Anna Dana, Yoga Sangeeta, various sevas during festival days.. and more.. ample opportunities to share our good fortune.. because His Holiness wants our joy to multiply.

Dear Sathguru, We are blessed to have somuch fortune.. how much ever it is. And we are even more blessed to be able to share our fortune with others. Do keep us this way in all times to come, our Divine Mother.. because we love that joyous smile on your face when you see us sharing our fortune. We want to see that smile always.. That is the only way our happiness multiplies. And if we ever give in to the ‘moha’ and get attracted to our wealth, please play your role of ‘antar moho mocana’.. and liberate us from such inner attraction.
    Jaya Guru Datta.
    Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta Appaji. The bhajan, the video and the message go hand-in-hand, very well connected. The passing clouds in the beginning show that the material wealth is also passing and not permanent. Particularly, the speed at which the clouds run make one ponder on the fact alongwitht the message. The concluding frames of serene water falls give to the mind very different thoughts that the bhavabdhi pota – can be crossed only with the divine grace and the navigatory help from Sadguru whose smile itself is the greatest ship to cross the ocean with the courage mustered (through that smile). Also, if we dont share the happiness and dont share the fortune, there is no use of having it for ourselves as the rocks in the falls dont get any amusement or ambient happiness from the falls’ beauty. This is a great reminder – Thanks Appaji for this MMS.

JGD Appaji – Puttuji I agree with you – Om Namo Hanumathe Namah – SGD

  2. Thank you Swamiji, for the good advice. It is true that, if we share the fortune with others, not only our joys will multiply, but also, like the spreading of positive thoughts, others also will get the fortune. and then it would be like helping others for their welfare.

    • on August 28, 2012 at 9:53 am

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! This is a great message! Always you are striving for our welfare! People work so hard for their success in our society and they do so in such a competitive environment. That so often leads to an attitude of hoarding “winnings” rather than sharing “blessings.” It is easier for us to give to those who have less than ourselves, but not so easy to wish that everyone, even our competitors, can have the same good things that we wish for ourselves. Jaya Guru Datta for reminding us that when we share our prosperity, we increase our joy….and when we wish joy and abundance for all, even those we fear or dislike, we create a sweeter world in which to live….Sri Guru Datta!

    • on August 28, 2012 at 10:14 am

JGD Puttuji!! Power of repetition. True joy is in giving, not receiving. Joy multiplies as we share our good fortune with others.
Tuesday is share your food day and just today, this MMS comes as a reiteration. SO many of us how have experienced this blissful joy.
Just as the brighter day is covered up with passing clouds, making it dark, the darkness slowly gives way to a brighter day. Everything is so transient, wealth included. When we leave this world, we surely do not take any of that wealth with us. It is left behind and more often than not, fought over!! Instead, if we learn to share it with someone who is less fortunate, our joy multiplies, we win Guru’s grace, we are showered with blessings and good wishes from those who have received help from us. May be some tax benefits too. When there are so many tangible and intangible benefits why not learn to share?
Appaji’s smile is so child like and it reminds me pf the MMS that says Guru’s smile is from his eternal bliss. So true, he is always on the giving side, and He does give away good things and lessons always, forever. That healthy smile takes away all our maladies.
The bhajan that goes with the message. Vistrutha Lochana, (wide-eyed) is always watching this entire universe and is guiding her children towards the righteous path.
Appaji speaking out loud this message increases the impact of this MMS by multi-fold.
All in all, a beautiful message with a impactful message. JGD!!
Pray to Appaji that all of us imbibe “Sharing” attitude with less fortunate people.

  3. Jaya Guru Datta, Puttuji.

  4. we would certainly try to share good fortune with others dear appaji

Yes. Swamiji’s verdict and advice will always bring good fortune. Our joy multiplies.

    • on August 28, 2012 at 11:08 am

    Jaya Guru Hanuman,

Thank you Swamiji for pointing out the weakness in our current society and helping us correct them. This message is need of the hour. More than 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day or Rs.500 per day. In India close to 70% of population lives on less than $1.25 per day or Rs 65 per day. This is startling statistics. The gap between the rich and the poor is increasing at alarm levels. More than 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth. Some do not have access to hospitals and travel 80 or 100 kms – taking four or five days in the journey for medical help.

These statistics show that we have forgotten how to share. We know that we cannot take anything with us after death, we have to come back here again and again until we attain liberation but we are not making this planet a happier place to live for us or for the future generations. Let us look at this message and ask ourselves – Are we doing enough to make this world a happier place to live? Are we sharing enough of our wealth with others?

Sri Swamiji has started many programs to help the poor and needy – Datta Seva, SGS Hospital, Annadanam, Ammavodi, Share Your Food etc. . Let us try to understand them and participate in them to make the world a better place to live. You can find more information at the following link – sgsdattaseva.org/jsp/static/manavaseva.jsp

Let us pray to Sri Swamiji to give us the strength to share.

Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji who is Deenabandhu.

    Om namo hanumate namaha

    Jai guru datta
We should enjoy our good fortune with everybody that we have meet with our sadguru appaji
And increase our good fortunes further
    Sri guru datta

  5. JGD. As per my understanding Good Fortune is Nothing but our past merits(Punya Karma) which if shared (Satpatra Dhanam) will bestow us multifold merit paving our way to Liberation. A detached Samarpan to Sadguru is always the BEST Sharing, as he is the One who knows what to do that.

    • on August 28, 2012 at 12:55 pm

JGDH Puttuji!!! Beautiful!!! For me Sharing good fortune means, Caring, giving, being charitable, practice more values, ethics, work towards protecting our environment (my bit), care and respect elders…. But the most important is Follow the Master and “Guru Ki Gun Gao”…( I may have left out many more….) Thank you:))

Pranams to the Lotus Feet of Pujya Appaji, who is guiding all His children to share through the many programs initiated by Appaji, including the latest Share Your Food program. Sadguru is not only teaching through mere words, He is also helping all His children on how to follow those teachings. And, He is in-turn reinforcing all the teachings through these wonderful multimedia messages, in ways that is attractive to even the younger generations, ….and are available for many generations to come. Pranams, Appaji. Om Namo Hanumate Namaha.

Concept of ‘sharing’ is to be inculcated into all of us from young age to be a human. The MMS about “True joy is in giving” is also about sharing. Sri Swamiji is trying to convey the message to us with different flavours, like all sweets though made of sugar still there are many sweets to suit the taste of everyone. Thank you Sri Swamiji for your efforts and concern to change our mindset.

    • on August 28, 2012 at 3:36 pm

    Jaya Guru Datta!
The greatest joy i have when doing Seva, something in connection with Sri Swamiji. Also through our worldly work we can participate in Seva in an indirect way by sharing our good fortune.
Thank you for this beautiful MMS!

JGD! Dear Appaji, please give me the strength to overcome my ego (= fear) to share with others more and more. And also to overcome my ego when giving! I feel this urge of naturally giving, but then also at some point, the ego pops in. Then I feel like a loser because again I failed by having ego when giving. I am grateful for your everlasting patience with me! SGD

JGD In german there is a similar saying: geteilte freude ist doppelte freude. it is so deeply true that human beings as interdependent and social beings gain by sharing when done in trust and openheartedly. may I be able to practise this more and more knowing that nothing really belongs to me, that any good fortune I may enjoy is bestowed upon me by our beloved sadguru.

    • on August 28, 2012 at 4:48 pm

Jai Guru Datta and Happy Onam Appaji !!

Thank you for the wonderful MMS with ‘Vande Vistruta Locanam’. Pujya Puttuji,
you have made it very clear that when we share our good fortune for the benefit of others (all that we have is Appaji’s giving only !!) our joy multiplies. Admired the way you pointed out the difference between MMS 86 and 90 in the first place itself!!

When Sadgurudeva asks us to contribute towards Seva events Appaji is doing two things explicitly 1. Removing our bad karma 2. Making us less and less attached towards material wealth so that we go further towards attaining the purpose of life. Implicit benefits are many and Pujya Sri Swamiji is correcting and helping us in many ways. There is so much peace in seeing a hungry kid satisfied after a good meal, a wounded creature well tended to etc. These are the joys that are permanent which only attachment to Sadguru and observance of His teachings can afford.

One thing I noticed, when I enrole in any of Appaji’s scheme, the money multiplies and comes back to me. Appaji I want to see your child like smile always, and want to multiply happiness always,I humbly surrender and pray to protect me from any distraction and momentary joys !!

Om Aim Hrim Srim Sarvamatre Namaha !!
Sri Guru Datta Hanuman ki Jai !! Om Namo Hanumathe Namaha !!

  7. Ah, Nature is shown here forever sharing her joy wih us! May Her joy multiply! JGD!

    Dear Puttuji,
Nothing can be closer to the truth. Whatever be the reason, whatever little be the fortune we share with others, the enjoyment is worth way beyond what it could fetch us if it were unshared. The great fortune about this is that our Sadgurudeva leads the way in giving ( this goes beyond sharing) and gives us plenty of opportunity to prove this to ourselves. He gives the means, the suggestion to utilize the means, and the opportunity to derive great joy from sharing the means. How wonderful !!! Jaya Guru Datta

    • Dinoo Tiwari on August 28, 2012 at 8:44 pm

Jai guru Datta. We have heard that happiness shared is happiness multiplied but as usual we fail to implement this all the time Thank you Appaji for once again reminding us about how we should live. We pray that we will make this a part of our life’s mission Please guide us and have patience with us until we transform. Koti koti pranaam.s to Sadguru deva’s lotus feet

    • Archana Penukonda on August 29, 2012 at 2:54 am

Jaya Guru Datta! Thank You for today’s lesson, Puttuji! The habit of sharing good fortune with everyone is the trait of great people – great saints, great kings, people that influenced the history of mankind positively, people we love and look up to in our own lives and above all, our Sathguru. The rich, powerful and benevolent kings that have made a name for themselves were all people that shared their wealth liberally. King Dasaratha, Lord Rama, Kartaveeryarjuna, all of whom are know for being great kings were known particularly for their generosity. All great saints such as Sage Agastya, Sage Valmiki, Sage Vishwamitra shared all their good fortune and their knowledge to benefit others. Our Sathguru is a stellar example! Material wealth seems to hold no value for Him and He lovingly distributes it to people that need it.

Reflecting on this message and based on Puttuji’s commentary, there is no doubt that we cling to everything that we believe is ours. We also tend to share only to a certain extent what we believe we have earned with our own effort. While the wealth we earn is transient and will be lost one day (or we die and therefore are removed from enjoying the wealth anyway), the wealth itself is God’s gift and we will need to share it with others, especially the less privileged. This attachment to wealth is very, very hard to give up. It can come, as Puttuji points out, with detachment or giving up moha (attachment). All the lessons of Sri Swamiji, especially the MMS messages are aimed at helping us detach ourselves from the impermanent and focus on the eternal truth. With the grace of our benevolent Sathguru, may we slowly practice detachment. Obeisances to the Holy Lotus Feet!

The entire MMS seems to be rejoicing and dancing because of Appaji’s amazing divine smile ..and the background bhajan adds to the joy!
This MMS describes the personal experience of all Datta Devotees.. With Appaji’s grace the more we give and share, the more we receive in return. The more wealth we give, we are blessed with more contentment and less attachment. Bless us Appaji to open our hearts more and more!
