  1. “Why do you want to study this course?” asks the Professor. The teenager says – “Good scope.. placements”. So, our colleges have students focussed on the ‘good scope’ meaning the ‘good money’. Then we say the system for creates doctors who weaken patients, lawyers who cheat their clients, accountants who create imbalances in fortunes of companies. MMS 94 / 48229250 rightly warned – {Worldly love and pride of achievement and possession are false} Material attractions can distract from recognizing one’s own God given talents and potential. Can lead one into suboptimal decisions in education and career moves. Such doctors, teachers, engineers, lawyers.. cannot instil the pride of that profession in their own children at home.. and with juniors at work, and then struggle with an empty feeling in later life. Sad!

At least the outer world has observers, processes and measures that warn you when you make suboptimal choices.. when you get distracted. Examinations, projects, assignments… assess if you are making progress in comparison to a peer group at college, or at work. In your inner world, you are alone. You are your own observer, your own benchmark. Getting distracted here is easy. MMS 23 / 44156391 said – {Wealth and luxury can make one forget God.} Mind is a ‘flow’ of thoughts, we know. If we allow it to get distracted by material attractions, that flow can spread out all over the place. And you feel lost in the privacy of your own mind!

So, this MMS invokes the Goddess of Academic and Spiritual Learning – Saraswathi. Saras – meaning ‘flow’, and wati – meaning ‘she who has the flow’ – of knowledge. We know what is flow of knowledge when we listen to Bala Swamji’s Ramayana pravachana daily evening.. such clear uninterrupted, voluminous, deep flow of thoughts, which flow in language that flows like music, like nectar into our ears and minds. That is the powerful ‘flow’ of Saraswathi’s blessings. She wears white which symbolises purity of knowledge and her ability not to get polluted by, or distracted by material attractions. White is known to reflect away all light that falls on it. She rides the Hamsa.. the sacred bird that can drink only the milk from a mixture of milk and water.. signifying the power of discrimination.. the power of choice. She carries the four Vedas in her four hands. She sits on a white lotus that symbolises absolute truth. And, her simple jewellery shows her preference for knowledge more than material possessions. Very apt invocation.

Watch Appaji’s dress in this MMS.. white.. symbolising Ma Saraswathi ( Ma Sharada ) herself. When His Holiness sings ‘Sharade varde ma!’ he reminds us she is ‘akshara rupini (personification of academic knowledge), gyana dhayini (bestower of spiritual knowledge) , nada rupini (personification of nada) , brahmani ( Brahma’s consort ). A true seeker stands tall like the mountains without being distracted by the dark clouds or the bright light, or the colourful flowers. With the blessings of Ma Saraswathi, he learns to see Vishnu in all things is around him. Vishnu – meaning – the all pervading one. To such a seeker, there is no distraction.

Dear Appaji, You are our Saraswathi. You are our Vishnu. When we lose ourselves in your music for meditation, in your bhajan & discourse, in kriya yoga, in your seva.. when we listen to Bala Swamiji’s Ramayana.. We have no way of getting distracted by material attractions. With such focused sadhana, we will grow up to be achievers you will be proud of. With grateful pranams at your holy feet, Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji, This message is another little synchronicity, another little two second miracle that is a reminder that Sri Swamiji is always with us….I am reading a book which is discussing self-awareness and self-acceptance on the spiritual path. Just now, as I am reading, the discussion has been about learning to accept yourself where ever you might be, but also asking yourself how your actions/reactions/desires are helping you on your goal to spiritual enlightenment. Sri Swamiji has been teaching us this same principle in so many ways with messages like “Learn to find your inner enemies” “Fill you heart with pleasant feelings for others…” and “Worldly love and pride of achievements are false….” Deepest gratitude for all these reminders. We define ourselves in so many ways—wife, husband, father, mother, doctor, IT specialist, etc….we take on so many roles, but we forget our true role is to be a spiritual seeker after the truth, especially since we are blessed to have You in our lives. Help us all to remember ourselves in this role and to be that seeker in whatever capacity we might be and in whatever situation we find ourselves….

I would like to be a true seeker. I work really hard on this subject. And again and again I must find a way to not be disbured by material things. I have some strategies how to make it and I hope, that I have found a good way. It is not always easy. Fortunately a lot of things are for me not interestic, I don’t have the impression to need it. I am very happy when I have not too much material things, it is only disturbing, the house is too full etc.

  2. AN EXCELLENT REMINDER FROM OUR SADGURU TO HAVE A FOCUS ON NOT BEING SWAYED BY MATERIAL THINGS TO ACHIEVE THE ULTIMATE
EXCELLENT COMPUTER GRAPHICS GETTING BETTER DAILY REACHING HIGH CINEMATIC STANDARDS, JAYA GURU DATTA

    Dear Appaji,

This a very important advice but really difficult. Since we are born we learn to believe in things witch are seen with the physical eyes. So we have to trust YOU that behind this physical maya world is the real world, so that we are able to let the attractions go and feel and see than with the higher sense organs the reality 🙂
Please help me to go this steps on and on….

Jai Guru Datta Pujya Appaji – Our mind, which is a constant ‘Flow’ of thoughts – that gets constantly distracted – is the real challenge faced by the whole humanity today, as brilliantly expounded by our beloved Puttuji. The elaborate explanation of Puttuji also drives home the point that it is truly the ‘Mind/Sense control’ (Nigraha/Pratyahara) that helps our sadhana – so we can graduate from devotees and disciples to FOLLOWERS of Pujya Swamiji (who FOLLOW His every word/instruction inspite of all constraints).

    DakshinaMurthy Stothram says:
Viswam darpana dryshya-maana nagari tulyam nijaantar-gatam
Pashyan-aatmani maayayaa bahirivod bhootam yathaa nidrayaa
(meaning: The universe seen in the Self is similar to a city being reflected in a mirror. It is within but appears to be external due to mAyA, just as the dream universe does due to sleep.)

Adi Shankaracharya also explains in the ‘Bhaja Govindam’ composition that:
    gurucharaNaambuja nirbhara bhakataH saMsaaraadachiraadbhava muktaH
sendriyamaanasa niyamaadevaM drakshyasi nija hRidayasthaM devam

Meaning: Oh devotee, constantly meditate on the Lotus feet of the Guru, so you may soon be free from Samsara. Through disciplined senses and controlled mind, you shall come to experience the Indwelling Lord of your heart!

Dearest Appaji – We will strive hard to ‘imbibe’ your MMS messages and realize YOU in the depths of our heart (away from all the material distractions) by constantly meditating on your Lotus feet! Truly indebted to You, Appaji – our ‘very own Saraswati Mata’ for imparting the Divine knowledge (Pragnanam) of ‘Tat Tvam Asi’ through your wonderful teachings.

    Sri Guru Datta!

Jaya Guru Datta. I used to live in New York City where there were distractions everywhere! You had to be really focused to get from point A to point B on time. As I walked I could easily get distracted. “Oh! There’s my favorite shoe store.” “Wow. Look at that nice hand bag!” “Here’s a deli and I sure would like a bag of chips.” You get the idea. The trick was to put on my blinders and stay focused on walking.

We live in the material world and perceive things through our senses. I think the trick is not the things themselves but our attachment to them. There’s nothing wrong with acquiring a beautiful car, jewelry a nice house etc. But how would you handle a situation where your car was stolen or your house vandalized? This is where we face our attachment and the suffering that comes with it, isn’t it? Desire for more, fear of loss, worry of sustaining the experience.

Swamiji is so compassionate! In this message I feel that He is trying to guide His children away from the suffering. He knows where these distractions lead and, being the Maha Map-maker, He is showing us the short cuts! Even on the most efficient route to our divine destination, there will be distractions and temptation. But we are being given SO much guidance! It’s up to us only whether we use it or not. I prostrate to His lotus feet for showing me the way!

Million attractions in this multi-color world! The force of Sadguru’s compassions and His grace are the ones that have to bind devotees to Him, and away from the world’s distractions. We will try and continue to make efforts to stay focussed at You, Appaji. Pranams to Your Holy Lotus Feet. Sri Guru Datta.

Jaya Guru Dutta! As my journey with my Sathguru progresses, I am moving farther away from the materialistic things around me. When there is an incessant flow of knowledge in my heart from my Guru, external distractions cannot obstruct it. With this inner knowledge and the resultant discretion, I start weighing things around me and carefully go through the scope of the absolute as against the impertinent. The little materialistic possession I have, start invoking a feeling of burden instead of indulgence. I see only my Guru through the actions and the results. Everything else is just a prop set for the drama. Koti Pranaams to the Divine Lotus Feet of my Sathguru and my beloved Balaswamiji. Koti Pranaams to Puttuji. Sreevidya

    Jaya Guru Datta
Appaji, I am far from qualifying as being a true seeker. I think of God or guru when I am in pain, physically or mentally. I pray when I am gripped by fear of danger or am anxious about failure. I pray when I intensely hope to acquire something or when I have lost what I have loved and wish to recover it. I am a creature trapped in this powerful web of illusion that consumes me day and night with its false lures and temptations. It is only when the world totally disillusions me occasionally that I think that perhaps there is a higher truth that is beyond all of this glitter and glamor. That is when I seek you and pray to you for help in shedding the darkness of my ignorance, and to show me light.
You take me patiently, inch by inch, as I stumble and trip, as I crawl and creep along this challenging path. There are times when I give up and go in reverse gear, unable to cope with the rigors that I face, while you do not let go of me but wait with infinite understanding, holding out a long rope for me to hold on to, while I side step, go around in circles, and take detours wasting precious time.
You keep reminding me from inside my heart that a true seeker is not distracted by material attractions. I hear you and yet, I ignore the words and step where I should not. I have been burnt before by the world, but my memory is short and I want to give the world just one more chance to make me happy. I scorch my fingers over and over again like this, suffer lashes from the whip repeatedly, and return shamefacedly back to you.
This kind of push and pull of material attractions, distractions, and disillusionment continues over a long period of time, diminishing slowly, I think very slowly except for a few truly lucky souls who are born for liberation in this lifetime itself.
While I am on this wonderful spiritual journey, the words of advice from this MMS ought to be echoing in my heart constantly, keeping me on track. I will certainly memorize this line Appaji, and will try to stay focused on my goal. Sri Guru Datta

    • on September 12, 2012 at 4:27 pm

    Jaya Guru Datta!
By experience the wonder, knowledge and bliss coming from and through Sri Swamiji, the material attractions seem to fade away. They are simply not important any more.
Looking deeply into physics we see also that the material world is nothing having a real substance. Think just that everything, all matter, can be converted in energy and has its equivalent in energy by the well known formula of Albert Einstein E = mc2. Matter can be understood as being built of an abstract and universal form of waves. This is where the connection to the sound and music, Nada, is established. Every wave transports information. Here we find the connection to knowledge.
The MMS is so beautiful! i like the music together with Sri Swamiji and the great landscape. It shows us that wherever we go Sri Swamiji is our point of focus.

Jaya Guru Datta, Sahana, as one who has had someone in my home who couldn’t resist helping themselves to my things, I understand what you are saying, What joy is there for a thief? In the end, there is no peace of mind for them, only the stigma of being a thief. The only peace comes from letting go, making restitution and releasing the attachment to having material things. The real power, the real grace, the real love doesn’t reside in any material object, stolen or honestly earned and owned.

I pray that I become better at not losing my focus. It is a challenging task with all the distractions this Kali yuga presents to the senses. Thank you Sri Swamiji for your continued attention and guidance. Throughout all this I wish to be thinking of you. As long as I have my Datta Sadguru in my consciousness the sensory inputs have less of a pull. Bhajans on Vani Devi always lift me out of the mire. The beauty and harmonious sound that this song emanates cannot help but make one feel as though they are riding on a swan. Jai Sri Mata

    “The world is too much with us; late and soon, Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;
Little we see in Nature that is ours; We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon; The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers, For this, for everything, we are out of tune;” lamented the poet William Wordsworth. I studied this poem half a century ago. I did not understand it then. Thanks to Sadgurudeva, it is beginning to make sense now. Life is not for earning and spending or for being distracted with acquiring things, be they materials, relationships, power or fame. It is for merging with God who is all around us and inside us. Thank you Puttuji for this stern reminder. Jaya Guru Datta

    • Glory of Rama on September 12, 2012 at 11:11 pm

In College English Literature class I used to be fascinated with Wordsworth’s poetry.

“My heart leaps up when I behold a rainbow in the sky:
    So was it when my life began; so is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old, or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man; I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

These could well be the words of Sri Jayalakshmi Mata who loved Nature and identified with it totally. “The Child is Father of the Man.” The Child is born all-knowing in its divine innocence and complete love and trust of Nature. It is through experiencing life that most children lose that knowledge of the divine, those memories that they are born with and develop selfishness, greed and deceit. When we realize that instead of growing spiritually with age, that we are in truth shrinking spiritually as we grow in age physically, Guru steps in and gives us this above caution, not to get distracted with material attractions. He tells us to turn away from the world and to find our true nature, which is that we are part of Nature and not artificiality.
A wonderful MMS with a superb line for us all to ever remember, Puttuji. Thank you and Jaya Guru Datta

JGD Appaji. Love this bhajan. Some Marathi devotees have strived so hard to make this bhajan, a bhajan that schools sing during their assembly hours. It really invokes and praises Saraswathi Maa beautifully. Your voice in this bhajan is so sonorous that anyone, esp a student would want to identify with this bhajan and pray to Saraswathi Maa. Thank you for this MMS, Appaji.

Who is a true seeker and what is he seeking? Finding a convincing answer to the question “Who I am and what is my purpose in this life” summarizes our journey and our endeavour to find absolute happiness. To be able to find an answer that is truly convincing is very very difficult. None other than a Sadguru can help us find this answer. Following his teachings without a question is a secret short cut. However, we have our distractions. Whether it is a new dress or a solitaire, is a distraction. Appaji has reminded us umpteen number of times that what we ‘possess’ and what we call ‘mine’ are all His gifts to us. He has given them to us, He will take them away too. Attaching ourselves to anything materialistic, for a matter for fact, attachment to anything and everything that is ‘mine’ is stupidity, because, there is no ‘mine’. Training our minds to this fact is the biggest ordeal, but once trained, no gain and no loss affects us. No happiness and no sorrow can touch us. Appaji’s benevolence is so repetitive in nature that no one can escape it. So here is yet another reminder. We all have to learn what to hold on to and what to let go. All our battles are surely won.

Follow the master, He alone can show us the way, He alone will walk the way with each of us. JGD Appaji. Today I write this with so much ease, but two or three years ago, nothing of what I have written now ever made sense to me. I owe this training to you. I owe my current happiness to you. My gratitude can never be expressed well enough to thank you for this life I am leading. Love you, my beloved Guru. You made me to stand inspite of my horrendous fall. I could stand because of held on to YOU and let go my EGO. Pranams to your lotus feet. JGD!!

A true seeker is not distracted ~ 12 sep 2012

Namaste Puttuji, pleasant video with wonderful bhajan. Goddess Saraswathi’s grace should be there for the knowledge of being with Sadguru. In a rocky mountains, Appaji is shown in a grassy piece of mountain indicating in the dry material world, Sadguru is the one who can plant spiritual knowledge in the minds of devotees. A warning quote ‘ A true seeker is not distracted by material attractions’ giving warning to mind to be under control always in the present world where one is surrounded by the material world. Ratio of spiritual seekers in the whole world may be 1: 10,000 or 1: 1,00,000. A true seeker who is always under control also, will be critised by surrounding people that he is wasting his life and will be inspired to enjoy the material world. To keep one’s mind under control, continuous check by Sadguru is a must. Involvement into material world happens like a water under the mat unknowingly which can be recognised by Sadguru alone, never by the self. Hence constant darshan of Sadguru helps seeker not to get distracted by material attractions. Namaste and thank you very much Puttuji.

A true seeker is not distracted:

Ours is a monkey mind that is very easily distracted. Such a mind is only controlled by disciples who are ably guided and trained by great master. Our Sadguru molds his disciples to be true seekers and blesses them with the true power of discrimination just like the Hamsa of Saraswati Mata. Our Master has constantly shown us the impermanence of the worldly objects and the happiness derived from them. True seekers look inwards for happiness. Worldly distractions of fame, power, money, beauty, materialistic knowledge cannot bind such true seekers. We are indeed very fortunate to be under the caring guidance and watchful eyes of Dear Appaji, who is Saraswati Mata himself. Our minds are more calm and steady as we understand that these material distractions are not to be entertained. Thank you for this great message with the melodious ‘Sharade varade ma’ bhajan in the background. Jaya Guru Datta

    • Hamsa on September 13, 2012 at 7:20 am

“A True Seeker Is Not Distracted”

All of us want to make it big in life, have all the comforts in life, and ultimately be happy. To achieve all this, we go a long way and do every possible thing. But at the end, even after getting all this we are still not satisfied. WHY? It is because we are not really happy internally. We just satisfy our material needs and say I am very happy.
But to a true seeker, these external materials do not mean anything. That is because he is constantly focused in seeking inner peace and is not carried away by the material attractions. For this focus to remain constant the blessing of Guru is a must, without whose guidance we cannot overcome the vicious material attractions.
Pujya Sadgurudeva is verily the embodiment of Saraswati Mata. HE is constantly turning our outward focus inwards by way of HIS speeches, bhajans, music, yoga etc. With this we get a taste of inner peace and happiness. In order to make this happiness permanent, we try to be true seekers. Then starts the inner journey, where the external attractions will become insignificant.

Koti pranams to Pujya Sadgurudeva who is constantly watching over us and guiding us to be true seekers and not the ones who get lured by the material wants. Jaya Guru Datta!!

A true seeker is not distracted – 12/09/2012

A true seeker attempts to experience the omnipresence of God and is constantly aware of His presence. So realising the fact that ‘materialistic world exists till our body exists’ will not distract the seekers attention from experiencing omnipotent God. Vivid presentation of the message.

‘materialistic world exists till our body exists’ … very well said and hard to put into a constant practice also as we all think we live forever, the greatest wonder. Jaya Guru Datta!

JAYA GURU DATTA! Noone and nothing can make so happy as Sadgurudeva can do it. All other things and joys are only a tiny substitute for HIM. My humble prostrations to Appaji`s lotusfeet. S.G.D.!

These words of Sri Swamiji are very much relevant to students. What a beautiful bhajan sung in praise of the most pertinent deity to go with Sri Swamiji’s golden words! A story very relevant to Sri Swamiji’s saying goes thus:
One afternoon, in a gurukul in olden days, (i.e., the phase of Brahmacharya, where students would live with the Guru and Guru Patni in the ashrama) everybody is calmy eating their meal except one student who spits the food out complaining that the food has been cooked in castrol. It turns out that in order to test the students, the Guru purposefully instructs the Guru Patni to replace regular oil with castrol. Upon seeing the reaction of the student, the Guru calmly approaches the student and asks him to leave the Gurukul immediately. Upon questioning, he replies, “That your senses are diverted towards materialistic pleasures indicates that you are no longer fit for education and hence are done with your education. Therefore, you may now leave the premises”! All the other students were so focused on their learning that the taste of the food they ate was of least priority to them. On the contrary, this student’s mind had deviated so much from the track that unnecessary, in fact, forbidden things such as materialistic pleasures became more important to him.
Conversely, when our minds are not distracted by irrelevant, materialistic attractions, focus on our objective strengthens and achieving our goal becomes a certainty. Therefore, we pray Sri Swamiji and Mata Saraswati to bless us with the boon of concentration so we can focus on our goals, be it education, arts or employment etc. and achieve success without givng into materialistic pleasures en route our destination.
    Jaya Guru Datta!

JGD! Dear Appaji, as countless other devotees, I’m also living proof of the transformation you have guided me through, even before I have met you in this life in person. Sometimes I feel proud of it, observing that others are distracted to material things and even think this is good. Then, I catch myself still wanting something. I pray to Sadgurudeva that gradually, I will have more strength in this regard and that I will be able to support others as well. SGD!

    DEAR DATTA,, dear Devotees,
just this night I had a very bad dream with much fear.
When I woke up, I was wondering why. And I came to the following conclusion.
Though landscape was beautiful, the houses were beautiful, a seminar in a nice region
was beautiful, I had this nagging fear of envy and jealousy. I felt very small. So I could not relish anything.
This brought me to the view HOW GLAD we can be to have self confidence, then
greed and fear vanish altogether !
My mother had some good tricks to show me how relative name, fame and material things are.
F.e. As a child, I wanted to do horseriding like a small boy did, who was boasting about it.
He had a very tough mother, and my mother asked me:
“Ok, you want to do horseriding, then you also have to accept this mother. Would you like?”
And I said : “Oh no , mum, YOU are the best !!!” And so I learned that I cannot just pick the raisons out of the cake, but must take everything and that the seemingly nice things may have a dark side also.. That was a good lecture!
Another good thing is, when parents show their child, that it is appreciated just as it is.
It needn`t to have success, be something special etc. So it can grow up as a content human being.
My mother often said “Yes” “No” and “Perhaps” according to my urgent wishes in
    quick change,
so I never knew, what would happen next. I hoped and hoped … and when I finally got my
precious wish fulfilled, t h e n … wish had already completely vanished.
I think, MOTHER was a good Sarasvati to me !
Dear SWAMIJI, YOU are our SARASVATI, YOU give us so much knowledge and so many wishes fulfilled, but we must work hard to appreciate and understand !

Einmal mehr nimmst DU, geliebter SWAMIJI uns an der Hand, zeigst uns auf einfache Art auf, worauf wir uns zu konzentrieren haben, damit wir nicht an Materiellem hängen bleiben.
    Ich danke DIR.
    SRI SARASVATYAI NAMAH
    OM VISNAVE NAMAH

Once Sri Swamiji was offered a jewelry, Sri Swamiji put it around his neck, a photo was taken, Swamiji had his beautiful smile and said; ” Happy for five minutes. ” Let us enjoy the beauty of God’ s creation, but don’ t let get us attached.!! JGD.

    JGD Appaji
It is said that the material world is a projection of our mind. The world doesn’t exist anywhere outside other than in our mind. All our experiences are in our mind. The mind itself created the world. When the mind breaks away from the senses and comes towards consciousness, it has come back to its source. If we let loose our mind in following material things rather than inner contemplation, it will be lost in an unending loop.
We have to stabilize, purify and learn to understand our mind by listening to Appaji’s music, following His teachings so that it is rooted in the correct path.,
