Beautiful presentation! The key element to ponder over in this MMS is not its elaboration.. but its utilization. His Holiness knows that His children understand the power of ‘divine music’. He knows we all see Appaji as ‘Nada Brahma’. Then, why state the obvious ?

A teacher had a batch of new students. It was their first class. He needed a powerful ice-breaker, that will help them see their education in the right perspective. So, once all the students were seated around him, he ordered that each one of them be given an orange. He wanted them to keep the orange. They sat there with an orange each in their hands. He allowed them to introduce themselves. And then he asked them.. “How are you enjoying the orange ?”. “We don’t know” came the answer. The teacher said “Very good. I appreciate candid answers. Now tell me what you have to do if you must answer my question ?“ A student said “I have to eat it”. “Ha ! Good answer” rejoiced the Teacher. “Just as how you have to eat the orange, if you have to enjoy it.. whatever I teach you in this class.. you should listen, and then apply that learning in your life.. if it has to work for you. That is when it is called education. Otherwise it is mere transfer of knowledge, which is of no use to you or to society”

We have large collections of Appaji’s ‘Music for Meditation and Healing’ in cassettes, cd’s, ipods and ipads. Is it okay to just to keep them there? Is that why Appaji releases cd after cd ? Do we listen to that divine music often.. that too in our most painful, distracting, confusing situations ? If not, are we ensuring that the music achieves the intention with which it was created.. by Nada Brahma His Holiness ?

The celestial dance of Lord Shiva could have been frightening.. but for the divine music that brought grace and fluidity into that experience. That being the power of divine music, do we find the time to benefit from it ? Our Sathguru is unique.. He proactively blesses us with solutions, even before we sense the problem. Such is His grace. We, His children are unique.. when we have butter in our hands, we go searching for ghee. So, our Gurudeva is reminding us of the benefits of divine music.. to the body, mind, and spirit.

We get the message, Appaji. We will pull out all those CD’s and listen to them. We will proactively use those divine vibrations to improve our concentration and discipline in yoga. For when that happens, we will have lesser stress, pressure and pain to overcome. A thousand thankful pranams at your holy feet for this caring reminder..
    Jaya Guru Datta.
    Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! What a beautiful message with which to begin the day—To think about how even the stars and planets and galaxies and all animate and inanimate things are dancing notes of a symphony of divine sound!. Your knowledge of Nada astounds me and the power of Your music is beyond my comprehension. From the bottom of my heart comes the deepest gratitude for Your presence in this life and time and for the knowledge, healing, protection, love and challenges you bring us all!

  1. Yes, with all modern devices and distractions, my concentration is becoming lesser and lesser. I pray Swamiji’s Healing music will make me child-like and bring back my memory power. The visuals with Lord Swamiji and Shiva are simply GREAT!!. Team, keep it up!!

JGD.A Beautiful MMS. Of His Holiness.Music is the Language of Divine Beings. This is Because God’s are more readily recieved by God.In this path Saints like Tyagaraja,Annamacharya and a score of others attained the Feet of God.In this Hi-Tech world where speed is crazed, people have no time to think, listen, and sing good music. This in turn lead to suffering in an early Age.To ward of these ill affects His Holiness opened many Path’s of salvation. One of these is Music.Sri Swamiji says! Music is His Message.A Guru follows His devotee to Lift Him from the ocean of suffering. As Guru’My Music Follows You.

    JGD Appaji
Appaji is Nadabrahma. His music is the divine Healer. It has the power to calm the “tandava” of Lord Siva…imagine how much it can benefit us.
We just need to listen to it constantly and our physical/spiritual healing will start automatically.
We know we have a problem, we have the solution in our homes,at ours handsreach.
We need to come out of our laziness and start correcting the problem immediately (start listening to all CDs).
Infinite Pranams to Parama Pujya Appaji for His grace and compassion.

Music is my first experience with my dear Guru Swamiji. I didn’t knew anything about Swamiji, all was new for me. One time I found a cd of the music from Swamiji. I bought it and thought: it isn’t that stile of music, which I like, but I want hear it and look. I came at home and began immediately to hear this cd. Suddenly all in me wanted be moved. It was impossible to stay calm, I had to dance. The music went directly in my body and let me dance. That was something I never felt since then. At this moment it was clear for me: I must study, who is Swamiji, in whatt for relation I was with Him. It was my second birth, the birth in my real life with my Guru.

    • on August 20, 2012 at 9:37 am

JGD Appaji!! The very USP that helps sell the CDs is the fact that they are meant for “Meditation and Healing”. Some pieces of music instantly soothe the pain and bring calmness to the mind. Some pieces help in enhancing concentration of a wavering mind. Yet, some more awake the senses and bring a smile to our faces, make us clap out of sheer ecstasy. How does music have so many varied effects? Well, when Raga Ragini Vidya was re-invented by Nada Brahma Himself, I assume, it is the divine game plan for us.
When I am in a book exhibition on this side of the counter, a lot of people ask what differentiates one CD from the other. My answer would invariably be the raagas that are used in a particular CD. How that raga helps the mind and soul. How one raga has a healing effect and the other helps in meditation. How “Music of Mystics” has Healed your hand and how “Tripura” glorifies Sri Maata. I have been a witness to the fact that there are people (new and non-devotees) who come back to our stall in the book exhibition asking us to suggest more CDs to enhance concentration or that are more towards Healing effects.
Lord Shiva himself is identified with Tandavam (the divine dance that needs a rather loud kind of music). And then there is the same Lord Shiva who is identified with serenity.
The imagery in this MMS is neat. Tandava Shiva’s silhouette that keeps changing the mudras and the Shankaram Shankaram bhajan in the background.
Guess, music is the only language in which no mean or a sarcastic thing can be said!!
Thank you for the Music, for giving it to me!! Love you Appaji 🙂

    • Sreevidya Balasubramaniam on August 20, 2012 at 1:05 pm

Jaya Guru Dutta! The choice of which of HH’s Bhajan or Music to listen to seems to come from Sri Swamiji’s will for me. Sometimes I keep playing just one music back to back for weeks and months on end, without listening to any other bhajan. And then it would change to something else. At that time, I can’t listen to anything even inadvertently. I don’t know why this happens, but am sure there is a purpose Sri Swamiji has that is directing my choice of what I listen to. Among the tools Sri Swamiji uses to purify me, I feel Divine Music is the most effective one. In this special message, I feel the fire being my Bhakti and Shiva’s graceful dance (amazing graphics!!) Sri Swamiji’s shower of blessings for me. The more intense the fire is, the more intense the dance is. Fire is the purest of all, I pray that my Bhakti to be the same. Thank you Swamiji for a wonderful message. Eager to see Puttuji’s interpretation. Sreevidya

Jaya Guru Hanuman, Thank you Puttugamji for the beautiful explanation. Just as you explained I have been a bad student who had the orange in the hand but instead of eating it, enjoying it and satiating my hunger i have been looking at it. The doctor has given the prescription but the patient is not taking the medicine. I have not been listening to the music like you said I should be listening. There are so many ways to incorporate Sri Swamiji’s music in our life and make it integral part especially with the technologies available like iphone/ipod/ipad/laptops etc. Appaji’s music is literally available to us at our finger tips and we have not been drinking the nectar. There is no excuse anymore after this MMS. We will start listening to Sri Swamiji’s music as much as possible throughout the day and be in constant communion with our beloved Appaji. Below is a beutiful stage by stage approach listed on Yogasangeeta website that shows us how to attain bliss by listening to Appaji’s music:

    1) Listen
Music arouses cerebral sounds and concentration on a Raga (tune) creates a healing effect on the listener.

    2) Experiene & Enjoy
Happiness leads to peace of mind,
peace of mind results in concentration,
concentration is the basis of meditation.
Through meditation mind gets united with Sat Chit Ananda.

    3) Meditate
A steady and calm mind is the instrument needed for the attainment of divinity which is the true nature of man.

    4) Bliss
Through meditation mind gets united with Sat Chit Ananda. There is no happiness higher than this. Experieince of supremem bliss is the greatest happiness.

Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji who gives us nectar and also continously tells us how to drink it.

    Om namo hanumate namaha

Jai Guru Datta Appaji – My joy knew no bounds listening to Dattatreya Trimurthi Rupa bhajan on Bhajana Mala cassette at the Late Lakshmi Kasturi aunty’s home in Louisiana FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER in 1998, which introduced me to Pujya Appaji!
Appaji has many a time reiterated not to analyze the ‘sahithyam (lyrics)’ or the ‘sangeetham (ragas)’ of His Divine Music – but to just let the MUSIC FLOW through your entire being. What a Divine experience I had several times, letting the music just flow and ‘energize/pacify/cleanse’ my being. During Navarathri of 1999, singing Appaji’s bhajans for 5+ hours granted me the Divine experience of listening to the ‘aumatically generated Bhramara Nada’ (OM sound) in my right ear for several minutes. Such is the Glory of your Divine Music.

Koti Pranams to the Lotus Feet of our beloved Nada Brahma for enriching our souls with His Nada-Chikitsa! Forever grateful…
    Sri Guru Datta.

Om Nada Brahmane Namaha. Divine music, Yoga music (Yoga Sangeetam), in addition to being simply pleasing to the physical ears and mind, evolves a being to new spiritual heights. Sri Swamiji has showered that kind of music to the whole world over the past four decades of His musical journey, giving more than 200 concerts, traveling across the globe 110 times, spanning all continents of the globe. Pujya Appaji, we are all so fortunate to be part this celestial music from You. May we utilize this music and help ourselves to evolve spiritually to newer heights. Sri Guru Datta.

Jaya Guru Datta. If music has the power to increase the concentration of Lord Shiva at His Pralaya / Ananda taandava… how can one ignore its potential impact on the simple human being?
We all are aware of the story of Sati Devi and the situation in which Lord Shiva performed that pralaya taandavaat that time – a time of utmost disturbance to Yoga Shiva Himself. What is the quantum of the mental/physical/health related/financial troubles normal human beings go thru when compared to that of Lord Shiva? Music, particularly the divine music has the power to enhance the concentration of Parama Shiva at that very critical time – no need to mention the wonders it can create in the lives of normal human beings. That too, for Datta devotees – it is a blessing in hand. We dont have to search for the divine music, it is always available in our shelves. As Puttuji said, the music from Appaji’s divine sankalpa is to increase our self-life and NOT SHELF LIFE. We should not mis/abuse the music that is given to all of us by Appaji. Thanks a lot Puttuji for a great reminder.

    • Vandana on August 22, 2012 at 7:01 am

Great interpretation and a very valuable reminder not to just lock up the treasure of Appaji’s divine music, but to actually utiilize that to enhance the value of our lives. Thank You very much Puttuji for directing all of us towards the ‘utilization’ of the MMS, by explaining the inner meaning of it. Thanks a ton Appaji for blessing all of us with the divine music, the utility and the reminders as well. We will all try not to have Appaji the need to remind us again!!!

As I listened to this stirring rendition of Sri Swamiji’s music, I remember sitting in the audience as it was being performed and watching a new visitor to the ashrama get up and begin dancing in front of Sri Swamiji and the Nada Mantapam stage. He was in Bliss and could not contain it. This expression symbolized the power of Divine Music. Keeping track of Sri Swamiji’s music requires great concentration. How can one contain the infinite waves of His Love? We make it a point to have a copy of every cd released in our library as well as having extra cd’s to pass along to those unfamiliar with Appaji’s music. The concentration that develops…is it on the world or on the Divine? For me it is the Divine. Thanks Puttuji.
