This is a nice story told through pictures. One does not need words to explain this. However for the uninitiated (others skip this paragraph), let’s do a brief recap: The MMS begins with invoking Lord Dattatreya who is the personification of the Trinity – Bramha, Vishnu & Shiva. Our Sathguru Sri Sri Sri Swamiji is a personification of Lord Dattatreya. In this divine lineage belongs Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji ( Bala Swamiji ) who has been chosen by His Holiness as His successor. The MMS then symbolically opens the doors as if to lead us into a larger context. Lovely graphic images invoke the Universal Mother whose descendant was Jayalakshmi Mata a great saint and the divine mother who initiated her son.. our Gurudeva into the spiritual path.

The background bhajan ‘Datta Thumhi Mata Pitha’ sung by His Holiness sets the perfect mood, where the sadhak pleads for protection from His Guru who he considers his father, mother, relative and friend. The import is very relevant.. the Guru has our best interests in mind.. His instructions are for our protection.. for our progress.

The MMS ends with invoking Shanmuka – the six headed son of Lord Shiva. Shiva is a MahaYogi.. Great Saint. Shanmuka was born out of the divine Tejas that erupted from Lord Shiva’s third eye – The Spiritual Eye – Eye of Gnana or Divine Knowledge. So, Shanmuga is a personification of Lord Shiva himself.. and hence a personification of the divine knowledge that aspiring saints pursue. Shanmuga’s six heads symbolize the six siddhis bestowed upon saints or yogis in the course of their spiritual development. He is verily the bestower of such siddhi. Shanmuga or Muruga is also called Swaminatha – because he explained the meaning of the syllable OM to his father Lord Shiva. Shanmuga is revered for having destroyed the evil asuras – Tarakasura and Soorapadma.
Life is too short, and the realms of spirituality are too vast to explore in one life time. Spirituality is not studied from the external world. It is experienced and realized in the inner world. The ancient texts that indicate the processes for inner realization are the Upaniṣads {upa- (nearby); ni- (the place – down); ṣad (to sit) – “sitting down near – a teacher to receive instruction “} So, what Gurudeva is sharing with us in this MMS is the pedagogy principle of the Upanisads themselves. We receive instructions from our Sathguru in various forms.. His spoken word, His bhajans, His discourses, His MMS, His silence, His smile, His nod, His very way of living.. This is like a mother spoon feeding the child with all her love.
We only have to munch, swallow and digest what we are being fed. To follow Him is to follow His words. Yes, Dear Appaji, We will follow every instruction we get from you. Yes, we will get distracted at times, for we are human. In such times when the evil forces within us raise their ugly heads, we pray you destroy them from inside of us. For, you are our Shanmuga.. the bestower of divine knowledge and the destroyer of evil.
    Jaya Guru Datta.
    Your Puttuji.

I know, that Swamiji sees all my lifes. He knows what is important in my life. He knows how I can attain my goals. I see only little bits from all that. That’s why I can not see solutions for some problems. Here I must follow the words of Swamiji. After all the years that I try to do that I have experienced, that this way was always a good way, if I understood or not. I have learnt to follow, without understanding. Sometimes I could understand later, sometimes I had good results without understanding all. I true in all things my Guru and want be able to do always, what He is saying to me. It’s the best way for me, I know it!

Saints, Sages (Sadguru) have “complete” knowledge of all that is there.
Saints, Sages (Sadguru) have NO selfish motives at all, other than our best interests.
Therefore, it is wise to listen to their instructions and simply follow.

This life is fortunate to be associated with Sadguru Appaji.
Now, the only thing remaining is nudging ourselves to “listen and follow” His instructions. That is not a simple task, but at the same time, given the power of His compassion, this need not be a daunting task either. Pranams to the Lotus Feet of the One Who is forever shining in the hearts of His children! Sri Guru Datta.

  1. Jai Guru Datta, you indeed are our Maata , Pitaa and Bandhu, Sakha.

JGD Puttuji. This one is an extension of yesterday’s MMS. Our dearest Sadguru is our living god. He is the living Trinity. So, following Appaji and His instructions blindly is the only path to success. Though there is some confusion initially because of our inherent human nature, the fruits of success as we finish the journey is sweeter than nectar. Contentment, happiness and peace of mind are guaranteed. The imagery is self explanatory. Datta Darsanam is the best example to describe this MMS. Thank You Appaji for another dictum 🙂 This bhajan is one of my all time favorites. JGD.

    Jaya Guru Hanuman,

The universal doctor has prescribed a panacea for the ills of the world. Thank you Swamiji for this wonderful medicine and for administering this medicine to all of us. Let us try to understand why we need to follow the teachings of saints.

    Who are saints?
Saints are divine messengers of God. They come down to earth to guide and uplift us. Saints have realized God and help others realize God. This whole universe is projection from God and hence God is present in each and everything but the degree of manifestation is different in each. In saints God is manifested 100% whereas in ordinary humans manifestation is less, in animals it is lesser still as we are covered by veil of ignorance.

Why should we follow their teachings?
By their teaching alone we can realize – our purpose in life (MMS 49); know that life is not
    permanent (MMS 46); Everyhing happens only by the will of God (MMS 88); the animate and inanimate are part and parcel of God (MMS 64); Desires delude the mind and despondency dries it up (MMS 87); A real victory over our inner enemies is our real victory (MMS 68); True joy is in giving, not in receiving (MMS 86);

We have an option not to follow the teaching of saints but beware of the consequences. One will be lost in the jungle of life forever not knowing which path to go, carried away by the senses and controlled by the six inner enemies (anger, greed, lust, arrogance etc.), attracted to everything one sees, get attacked by wild animals, fall into ditches/traps and get hurt badly. Why suffer when there is a way out as said in this MMS.

One such saint who is within our reach and very compassionate to take us into his fold and guide us is Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji. Sri Swamiji is a rare living avadhoota who is here only to put us on the path of dharma and elevate us. One easily gets attracted to his divine blissful smile and is lost in those amazing eyes. His every action is for the benefit of mankind. His teachings are varied to suit different tastes – amazing speeches, scintillating bhajans, meditation and healing music, Kriya Yoga, ashramas to learn the art of seva and develop devotion to God, social projects to help the poor and needy, Share your food programs, personality development messages through mails/vimeo/facebook/youtube/google+ and many more.

Let us utilize this rare opportunity and hold Sri Swamiji tightly and follow his teachings
to be cured from our diseases.

Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji who is the divine healer.

    Om namo hanumate namaha

jgd Swami Ji in Shri Ram Charita Maanas Shabari says, ‘Pratham bhakti Santana kar sangaa’, Hanumaan ji says ‘Saadhu te hoye naa kaaraj haani’, simple people believe that ‘ Saadhu ki mahimaa saadhu hi jaaney saadhu ki mahimaa veda bakhaaney ‘ and i know a saint’s instructions must be followed because without any selfish motive The saints always guide and help for our best pranaams Datta Satguru onhn sgd

    Jaya Guru Datta

Very true… Pujya Sri Swamiji who is personification of Lord Datta himself knows about our past, present and future. When our gurudeva tells something to us, we just have to follow without a second thought. Many times pujya gurudeva words may not be favorable to us, but once we blindly follow, we will know later why Sri Swamiji told us like that. Thank you Appaji for this great MMS video. I pray to Sri Swamiji and request His blessing to always follow Pujya Sri Swamiji’s words.

Thank You so much, Appaji. Your instructions are leading me the way. Without Your instructions i would feel like all the varanas in the dark tunnel in the Ramayana Sri Bala Swamiji told about. But You are taking us and guide us through the darkness.
Thank You so much for all Your wonderful ways of teaching and Your patience.

Jaya Guru Datta Appaji – what a simple and very effective MMS today. From the beginning this message video looked very very different from the ones we saw till date. The dogs in the first frame in front of Lord Datta, Appaji being shown as Lord Datta, the Amma’s frame and the message – all are very very unique and great today. The message – to follow the instructions of saints is such an easy thing to do which will set lives in the right order – no burden on the jeevi. Finally the Shanmukha reminds me of my birth village – Amaravati. Exactly a similar Shanmukha used to be there in the Amaralingeshwara temple. What an incident? I loved that murthy always… Thanks Appaji for a wonderful message.

    • Hema on August 27, 2012 at 5:09 pm

What is the purpose of having Sadgurudeva if we do not listen to what he says? We have accepted that we are ignorant and that HE is all knowing, an Avadootha. So we should obey, even when it is difficult…it is our duty. Sadgurudeva knows what we need more than we ourselves!

    • on August 27, 2012 at 7:35 pm

The saying is very simple, straight forward and to the point. Sri Swamiji gives very definite instructions. It is totally up to us to follow them. The unique advantage we have with Pujya Gurudeva is that these are specific instructions given to each of us ( either face-to-face, dreams, suggestions or whatever way He chooses, but not just general statements, as in the lectures by some eminenet personalities, or written in some books. The other prerogative we are allowed by our Sadgurudeva is, if we make the least effort in following the instructions, He is with us to see the effort through to fruition. This comes out of His boundless love and compassion for us humans. Jaya Guru Datta

Namaste Puttuji, Marvellous video. One must follow the instructions of saints. It is well shown in a video that Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara together form Lord Dattatreya. Lord Dattatreya residing in Datta Peetham, sthira moorty taken form as chara moorty, Sri Swamiji and doing Pooja to His own Self. Sri Swamiji is giving pile of instructions to Sri Bala Swamiji. And then opens the door to show the small event in Appaji’s life history when Sri Raja Rajeswari has taken incarnation as Sri Jaya Lakshmi mata and teaching Appaji in childhood. Child Appaji grows into teenager Appaji always following instructions of Sri Jaya Lakshmi Mata. Then it is shown, birth of Lord Sanmukha. It is shown that not just an idol but Lord Sanmukha Himself residing in our Datta Peetham. And the wonderful bhajan Datta Tumahi is a feast to ears. As Appaji always followed instructions of Sri Jaya Lakshmi Mata, we should always follow the instructions of Appaji. Thank You so much Puttuji. Namaste.

This is a lovely bhajan chosen, very invigorating to listen to. It gets all the cells of the body and mind jumping and dancing to the healing vibrations.

Lovely images as well. It is always comforting to see Apaaji perform puja and offerings. It is very reassuring of his love for us and his protection of us.

The image of the double doors opening was nice too, very grasping.

Much thanks to all you work on the SMS MMS project and prostrations to His Holy Feet.

History is replete with stories of people that heeded the word of their Guru or of great saints and were blessed with liberation as well as stories of those that ignored the sage advice and were doomed. Dhruva was blessed by Lord Vishnu himself when he followed the advice of Sage Narada and performed penance in the forest. Pujya Sri Swamiji always reminds of the story of a disciple who chanted “Om Buffaloyayai Namah” on the advice of His Guru who was annoyed with him. But, the disciple was so sincere and believed so firmly in the words of his Guru that he was blessed with the vision of the Lord. Ravana refused to heed the advice of Mareecha and Vibheeshana when he abducted Sita, due to which he died a bloody death in a battle.

There are innumerable instances from Pujya Sri Swamiji’s life history where people that followed his advice and teachings secured a better life materially as well as spiritually. There are also instances where people ignored the advice and had to end up learning the hard way.

We are so blessed to have the most compassionate Datta Sathguru guide us. Not only does Pujya Sri Swamiji lead by example, He feeds us like a mother feeds her baby. Showing us baby steps, giving us simple, yet powerful mantras to chant, enabling us to donate within our means for a good cause, and showering us in divine, blissful music. There is no one else we need to look to. Obeisances to the Holy Lotus Feet!

Jai Guru Datta Pujya Appaji, Jayaho Puttuji – This entire creation is your Leela. The only way to overcome this Illusionary/temporal world full of Maya/Delusions/Moha/Attachments is by diligently following your teachings.
Once again, an amazing video with incredible amount of detail showing the sacred Guru Parampara – as explained by Puttuji in His inimitable manner!

It is said that a ‘best teacher/leader’ is/was/will always be a ‘best follower’. Appaji – In you, we see everyone: Datta, Motherm Father, Friend, Relative and great follower of Mata Jayalakshmi’s teachings (despite being Datta yourself!), as aptly explained by the powerful Bhajan as well.
We are eternally grateful & truly blessed to be living in this ‘Nandana year’ to receive all your sacred sayings. Please give us the inner strength and the nigraha to follow your powerful teachings.

Overall a very exhilarating and energizing video… somehow, needed this dose today more than everyday. Forever indebted…
