Bhajan nourishes the mind. Bhojan nourishes the body.
Having treated us to divine music at the Royal Albert Hall, Gurudeva shifts focus from ‘food for the mind’ to ‘food for the body’. Gurudeva’s music is soo nourishing because it is pristine pure nada in its ‘original or natural form or condition’. Anything in such form, is referred to in Sanskrit as ‘prakruti’ – another name for Lakshmi.
Sattvik, vegetarian, ‘prakruti’.. food in its original or natural form or condition – is so easy to digest, that it allows maximum blood circulation to the brain. Such circulation improves concentration which is so necessary for meditation & self-realization. So Gurudeva advises us to take simple and natural vegetarian food. Thank you Appaji for making fruits look so appetising!.. as appetising as your Nada itself. We’ll follow your advice. That is when our minds will benefit from your Nada to its fullest. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji.

Because I have a garden, I have a lot of vegetabils and salad. For this I have always fresh food. Because I have not so much time to cook a lot, my meals are very simpel. That’s good for me, I don’t like meals which are too big and complicate. Like this I have a direct connection to mother earth. When everybody would eat like this, we wouldn’t have so much problems in the world. People eat too much and too chemique. They don’t feel, what is good for their body, they don’t feel mother earth. It’s not good like this. It gives a lot of big problems.

Jaya Guru Hanuman, Below are excerpts from Sri Swamiji’s speeches:

    1) It is natural that a tiger kills a deer for its food. However, an elephant eats grass. What is the difference? The elephant is mightiest of all the animals. The moral we can draw from these two examples is that the vegetarian food can make you strong and healthy.

    2) Chant this before taking food and by doing so, you will be blessed by the Guru both in the material and spiritual progress.

    Sri Bhooyuta Sri Hari Chihnitaabhyam
    Agastya Rekhaadibhi ranchitaabhyaam
    Nigoodha Beejakshara Mudritaabhyaam
    Namo Namaha Sadguru Paadukabhyam”

    3) Divine music can convert poison into nectar (MMS 77) – One other method to make the food pure is to play the music of Sri Swamiji (bhajans or meditation and healing music) continuously in kitchen. This way the vibrations of Sri Swamiji’s music can make any food pure and keep our mind pure.

Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji

    Om namo hanumate namaha

Jai Guru Datta Appaji – You have mentioned in one of your earlier speeches that ‘You are what you eat’… meaning that eating Healthy/Natural (Sattvik) Food bestows Pure/clean tendencies in our mind, that reflect in our thoughts, words and actions. So, it is important to refrain from eating food that has Rajasic or Tamasic qualities.
We are grateful to you for cleansing us in a holistic manner by helping us become cleaner and purer in body, mind and spirit – in myriad ways: Bhajans, Kriya Yoga, Homas, Pujas, MMS messages, Physical Seva/Service, Dattapeetham publications/books etc.
Your elaborate advice on eating Healthy food in God Word – Vol1 and Vol2 books are amazing as well.
Thanks to your Compassion, Grace and incredible efforts, we are progressively seeing positive changes in our Thoughts, Words and Actions on a daily basis.
    Forever grateful… Sri Guru Datta!

  1. His Holiness always gives good direction, through personal example, to all devotees. Human beings only eat cooked and processed food where as all other animals eat raw food and they appear not to suffer from all the disorders human beings suffer from. Better to eat fresh natural food to be 100% healthy.

JGD Appaji. Thank you for re-instating this tenet another time, on Share Your Food day. Research has proven that Vegan food is the most nutritious and most balanced food without the harmful effects of cholesterol and other chronic ailments. You have emphasized on growing veggies in kitchen garden. I have personally witnessed the veggies that grow in ashrama garden. They looked yummy and so colorful. Vegan diet is so vitally addictive that so many westeners too have gone vegan. ADME is medical terms is perfect with vegan food. Will always practise it Appaji. Thank you for teaching us this secret. “When children go away to college, we lose control over their diet habits. Now they eat everything. They only like to eat out. They do not appreciate my home cooked vegetarian meals anymore,” lamented my dear friend a couple of days ago. In the name of convenience and for being accepted by their peers many youngsters are giving up the values nurtured in them by their parents. This is sheer shortsightedness. We are what we eat. Aunt Venkamma instructed Satyanarayana (young Swamiji) on the importance of not only what we eat, but the importance of who prepares our food, their mindset at the time of food preparation, and our mental state when we eat the food. Because of following the instructions of his guru, the boy Satyanarayana grew up to become Swamiji, totally pure, blissful, divine, filled with love and compassion towards all. Please, everybody, let us eat fresh, simple, pure food prepared by loving hands. Let us eat with a calm, peaceful, and undisturbed mind. Let us not be reading useless stuff while we eat, let us not watch useless, negative, and violent scenes while we eat. Let us not quarrel, be rude, or angry while we eat. Let us offer our gratitude to God for being alive, and for having nutritious food on our plate. Let us pray at every meal that Mother Annapoorna should bless us with spiritual knowledge through the pure food that we are consuming. Let us offer the food into our mouths as if we are offering it to our beloved Sadgurudeva who resides in our hearts. Stop and think before every bite and every sip, whether what we are offering to the Fire God of purity in our stomachs, is fit enough to be offered to Him with devotion. If it is stale, impure, or is a product of violence, let us avoid it. Jaya Guru Datta

  2. we will certainly try to eat simple and natural food as advised by your highness Appaji

jai guru datta, tathaastu Puttu ji, we know ‘jaisaa anna vaisaa mun’ (our mind reflects what we eat). May Mother Nature help us in all aspects like, we should be blessed by natural fruits vegetables grains for all and in time. We should not get carried away by our tongue. We should learn to eat simple and natural food, avoiding junk food, fast foods specially out side.We should always chant The Holy Datta Stava before eating our food, that will protect us from many side effects of chemicals used while growing or preserving the food now a days onhn sgd

    Jaya Guru Datta!
The concert in the Royal Albert Hall was so magnificent that i am still radiating with celestial energy and bliss. During the concert it felt as if the sound is drenching deep into the body and mind and cleaning it thoroughly. The difference can be recognized easily in the daily life. The mind is now much clearer and more present. Sri Swamiji nourishes us so well with nada. He gives us also the most beneficial simple and natural food. We just have to do the right selection on what we eat.

It is always helpful to have this reminder. No matter how well we may think we eat, there is always room for improvement. There is no better food for the soul than Sri Swamiji’s gifts and very easily digested. Never any indigestion!! With His gifts, the inspiration to do better and eat better results. The body seems to be more sensitive to what gets put into the mouth and swallowed. Shambave is the giver of that Bliss and nourishment. Jaya Guru Datta

    Dear Datta,
food is to me one of the most important items for physical and psychic health.
By eating the wrong things, like “dead” chemical food, or food cooked by unbalanced
people, or eating in a queer environment, brings me unbearable stress!
I have noticed it again and again.
And my mood, while preparing food and eating, is also very important.
I feel so pleased watching this video, YOU holding the fruits so caringly in your hands …!

Praying before eating is important. In Western world unfortunately this good habit has vanished.
    Saying THANKS to nature.

a big Ps : It is not easy to live in a world with people – even the best friends and family members –
    who eat meat.
Words don`t help, but consequent showing vegetarian and healthy lifestyle has already
    brought some understanding.
I feel blessed by dear Swamiji, who always gives me strength !

There is a glas of fresh water in front of me now. The vibrations of this nice video will
permeate the liquid and brings good health.

Royal Albert Hall, dear Datta. NADA is our best food. Congratulations and a BIG THANKYOU !!!

I thank You, my beloved Appaji for this material luxury. With my humble pranams to my dearest Sadgurudeva. S.G.D.!

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji, just the day before this message came, I was in a discussion with friends about how important it is that people are now thinking about “sustainable living” practices–how they can use their own backyards to make raised beds to plant fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit trees instead of ornamental plants. How with just arranging the gutters and downspouts on our homes, we can use rain water to create a pond to irrigate those beds, and how with even with just some investment, we can convert to solar power to take ourselves off of the grid and save money and natural resources. When we can grow our own food, we know what is in it, we can play Swamiji’s music to the plants, we can love it each day..we are prosperous! Sri Guru Datta!

There is a saying “You are what you eat”..Parameswara has provided us so much natural food in Prakriti..Human digestive system is designed for natural and simple diet..but we these days overindulge in eating whatever we can and suffer the consequences of a bad diet. For the mind to develop spiritually, body should be healthy and for a body to be healthy, simple diet is required..I have experienced that playing Appaji’s music while cooking, converts any dish into a naivedya!… thank you Appaji!

    Topic: Eat simple food
    Date: Sept 25th

Hindu scriptures have greatly promoted healthy eating habits one of which is the identification of healthy food, sattvika aahara. Healthy eating is woven into the fabric of Hindu tradition and culture in the form of fasting and ritualistic diet restrictions. Periodic fasting, as Sri Swamiji says, “gives rest” to our stomach which is functioning non-stop everyday. Eating uncooked or boiled food purges our digestive system. Simple foods such as fruits help fight free radicals that can damage our body. The phrase “Jeernam Jeernam Vatapi Jeernam” makes perfect sense in this age because the junk, stale and over processed foods, which are more popular today are capable of causing as much destruction as demons!
As the famous Latin saying goes: A sound mind in a sound body. If our body does not cooperate, our mind will not be able to function properly. Physical well-being is the basic requirement for progress of any kind. Only then will we be able to learn and grow. Only then will we be able to absorb, enjoy and reap the benefits of Sri Swamiji’s divine music; the kind of music Sri Swamiji recently churned out at the Royal Albert Hall. We are the most fortunate community for having been blessed with the association of Sri Swamiji. We must always keep ourselves ready to absorb the few droplets of nectar Sri Swamiji might sprinkle here and there. And being healthy, is one of the basic requirements for that. Thank You very much for the relevant message Puttuji! Jaya Guru Datta!

I never knew that the type of food we eat, effect our emotions and behavior. During diksha, i can see this difference, where we cut down on all the spices and salt and eat simple. It is astonishing to see that our thought process changes and make us concentrate on god. Thank you Appaji for reminding us the importance of eating simple food.

Food is the source of energy that helps in building up the body in a healthy way. Food habits play an indispensable role, if the nutrients that are not essential for body are consumed in excess, it leads to imbalance in the body. For instance, consumption of excessive oily or cheesy food may result in excess fat deposition or increase of cholesterol levels that is unnecessary supplement to the body and on repeated consumption becomes unhealthy too. Simple and natural food gets assimilated in a better way and keeps us healthy. Body is the source to attain knowledge, so one should protect their body with health. Thank you Puttuji for sharing this simple but essential health tip to be followed by all of us for healthy life.
