What a blessed way to begin our week on a Monday ! The enchanting tamil bhajan ‘Mudal Mudal Vanakkam’ in the divine voice of our Gurudeva ( Album : Namarchana – Tamil ), and the powerful – Ganapati Sukta – are truly invigorating! Bala Ganapathi radiates confidence and hope, so vital as we get started for this week. Let’s go !

Gananam tva Ganapati gum Havamahe ; Kavim Kavinam Upamasra vastamam
Jyestharajam Brahmanam Brahmanaspat aana ; Srnvan nuti bhissi dasadanam

May we worship Ganapati, the protector of noble people; The best poet, the most honourable,
The greatest ruler and the treasure of all knowledge ; O Ganapati, please listen to us and take your seat in our heart.

With Lord Ganapati firmly seated in our hearts, He is sure to remove all the obstacles on our way to victory in this week ahead. We only have to be positive and charge ahead ! Let’s go !

The victory we are referring to here.. is the ‘victory over our inner enemies’.. which only we know of.. because they live inside of us.. Negativity, envy, prejudice, laziness, greed.. it is a long list of enemies that we have allowed to occupy our inner space. Only we can fight them. Let’s go ! For that we need help from Ganesha, and hence this Monday invocation by His Holiness.

Thank you, Appaji, for charging our inner batteries in every moment of our life.. in particular with these MMS’s. We will follow the master. With faith in God, we will fight till the end, and finish the game. Jaya Guru Datta. Your Puttuji.

Yesterday while looking at the poster of 100,000,000 shatashloki count with the name Puttu Gam in the zeroes, appaji beautifully interpreted it as no.1 Puttu Gam.. Well ganapathy is always no.1.. Mudal Mudal vanakkam unakkagum.. The existence of puttu gam is to facilitate us to win over innner battles with the demon dwelling right within us.! All puttugam messages teach us ways to conquer ourselves .. Pray to our Ganapati Sadguru to bless us in this journey !! Jgd

Jaya Guru Datta, Appaji! May Ganesh help us overcome our inner enemies. May we consciously learn to replace disgust with love, anger with peace, sadness with joy, fear with courage. Swamiji so many people have such inner hatred of themselves or their bodies, especially women. Help us all to learn self-acceptance and healthy self love. Help us remember Krishna’s teachings in the Bhagavad Gita not to compare ourselves to others, but to be content in ourselves. May Ganesh help all of us to find inner peace and contentment.

Nice message through cute Ganapathy! Wonderful Bhajan in Tamil sung melodiously by our beloved Appaji. Every video is so beautifully made, it is just wonderful to watch them daily. Every message is so meaningful and our beloved Appaji’s love and compassion for HIS children is unconditional. HIS way of teaching the values & virtues to all is just so great. Our humble pranams and thanks to our sadgurudeva. JGD

o yes, it is so true. My inner ennemies have from time to time a big power. when I want be victorious, I must also be clever. It is not always the best, to fight directly. Sometimes it is better to wait a good moment. till this time I must collect my power for this moment. To have a victory is also be able to wait. I ask always Swamiji in my inner, how i should do it, that I can fight with my inner enemies. A victory is always also a victory from Swamiji, because He is leading me through the whole process.

Jaya Guru Hanuman, The beautiful Ganapati with wavering of lights, ganapathi stuthi, cute bala ganapati simply take our mind out of the mundane world. One simply cannot stop oneself adoring the cute bala Ganapti. This message is so important that it has to be remembered everyday and every moment in out lives. There are so many inner enemies that reside within us yet we do not even know when they come, plunder the peace and go away. We have to first know our inner enemies and their modus operanda which is a very difficult task in itself. When the enemies attack us we do not even know that we are being attacked. This is not at all easy and requires continous effort, introspection and constant practice. Practicing what we have learned is key. As Sri Swamiji says ‘One ounce of practice outweighs tons of tall talk’.

This message also reminds me of Sage Viswamitra who was so determined to conquer the inner enemies. He fell down so many times and succumbed to the inner enemies but he got up with doubled vigor and enthusiasm and finally succeded. Let us all mentally remember Sage Viswamitra and our beloved Appaji and seek their grace in overcoming our inner enemies. Below are some quotes from Swamiji’s Datta Darsanam/Neetimala books, Sri Swamiji’s speeches and some books/articles I came across:

    1) Anger
. The best remedy for Anger is Delay – because we will not be knowing our own state of mind when we get anger and later repent ourselves . So instead its better we keep ourselves in silence mentally and physically and do not enter into arguments.
. The wrath of a man will burn him. Besides, it will burn all his merits. So you have to be very cautious because man should not become a victim of wrath and injure or abuse others or betray others.
. If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow.
. Words are not sufficient to extol tolerance and forbearance. The man who remains equable even when abused and does not abuse or curse other in return even if beaten, who does not retaliate or cause to retaliate and who does not betray him or cause others to betray him is the best.
. Training yourself to use the wrong hand seems to act as practice for self control, such as reducing aggression, being polite. So if they are right handed, they are told to use their left hand for pretty much anything that is safe to do”. Using the mouse, stirring your coffee, opening doors. This requires people to practice self control because their habitual tendency is to use their dominant hands.

    2) Lust
Mother goddess is the omnipresent energy and women are manifestation of that energy. That is why women should be worshiped and respected as the Mother herself, knowing them to be a part of the Universal Mother. When men consider women as their mothers and women consider men as their fathers there will be no place for Lust.

    3) Arrogance
O God! You are the master, I am your servant; You are the doer, I am your instrument. Always remember that one’s knowledge, power, wealth are all derived from the Supreme Reality. Knowing this is humility. Whatever you took, you took from God. Whatever you gave, you gave to him. You came empty handed, you will leave empty.

    4) Jealousy
Jealousy is easiest to conquer. In this vikara, there is no question of (actual) gain or loss to ourselves. Jealousy (matsara) is the inability to endure another’s profit, prosperity or recognition. What loss have we really suffered? If he benefits, let us consider ourselves benefited; or let us strive to attain equal good. That should be our desire and determination. What has he taken away of ours? Nothing! He received the prosperity that is the result of his karma.

    5) Attachment
Do your duties without attachments. Atman is the only Truth that is enduring. Nothing else is permanent. Things, people, relationships, nothing is lasting. Your Sadguru is your only true friend.
    – Our parents and elders were here. Now they are gone; do they have an address? No.
    – Your husband or wife, you did not know of, before marriage. Only since marriage that relationship exists. Then one day you separate. The relationship is not permanent. The future address is not known of anyone that leaves this world.
    – You know your children only since their birth. Before they were born, do you know their address, where they came from? You don’t know. Your relationship with your children is only recent. The children grow up and go their way.
The closeness is not permanent. All these relationships come and go. Only the Atman that is your Self is permanent. All other attachments you should give up. They only bring grief.

    6) Greed
O Friend, you may earn immense wealth, but don’t think you are the master of it. You be the trustee of the wealth that you have earned. Do not used it to satisfy your selfish motives. Make your wealth comparable to a lamp, the light of which is shared by all people around. You came empty handed, you will leave empty.

Humble prostrations to Sri Swamiji who is the destroyer of our inner enemies.

    Om namo hanumate namaha

    • Sahana Rosemary Nulty on August 6, 2012 at 10:07 am

JGD. This is such an important teaching to understand! Too often, we look outside ourselves and blame others, thinking that outer circumstances are the enemy. When it is the enemies within, created by our ego attachments, that are to blame. As Swamiji pointed out the other day, we can choose to have a positive outlook. Blaming others for our own insecurities, doubts, fears, jealousy etc. is taking the negative view. It is not being conscious and aware that the true enemy, the cause of our problems, lies within. If you are critical of someone else, ask yourself “Why do I need to criticize?” What purpose does it serve?” Every time, I always find that it is just an ego-gratifying way of making myself feel superior by making someone else wrong. It may have some instant gratification but in the long run it just throws us off the path and clouds our inner vision of God and Truth. Self-awareness leads to Self-realization. We must recognize our own inner demons and conquer them first. This is a daily battle for me, Appaji, but I know that you understand. It is your loving compassion for our human nature that is so tirelessly guiding us every day, in every situation, in every moment! Words cannot express my gratitude. Pranams to your Holy Lotus Feet!

The inner enemies existing within us reflects in form of people around us and one perceives that he/she has enemies. Affinity, hatred, jealousy, joy, grief or anger are the result of inner enemies and victory over these enemies is possible only through control over senses and ego, which sets us free from bondage. In this video, Lord Ganapathy as backdrop and song ‘Modal Modal….’ is the offering to Lord Ganapathy, probably has been used symbolically, because He blesses everyone to prevent obstacles for completing the work successfully. This is possible only with the blessings of Lord Ganapathy and Pujya Sadguru that one can attain real victory by being in harmony with oneself and with surroundings.

JGD Our inner enemys are kama (desire), krodha (anger), lobha (greed) etc. They are mental habits that have their orgin in attachment. These habits are very deep-rooted in the mind. To remove a deep-rooted and strong tree requires much more strength than to remove a small weed. We should try to cultivate the forest of our mind. If we are successful in this task it will lead to mental refinement. Mental refinement is a great inner treasure because it produces peace of mind and happiness. That is much more valuable than a victory in the external world. om sadgurave namah SGD

    JAYA GURU DATTA!
I`m always so deeply touched how Appaji talks HIS messages. In such a simple truthful expression. How He emphasizes the sentences with HIS beautiful divine voice.
How much patience and self-knowledge is needed to fight day by day – moment to moment –
against our inner enemies! This is only possible by our Sadgurudeva`s grace. I bow down to You – to Sri Ganapaty – to Dattatreya Sadguru Deva di Deva. S.G.D.

Truly our real enemies lie within. All the negative emotions such as anger, greed, lust, selfishness, hatred, jealously, laziness make up the enemy army. This army is commanded by the Ego and it’s purpose is to keep us away from God-realization. By earnest prayer and steadfast surrender of our minds, will and hearts to Sadguru we can overcome all enemies. There is none who can defeat him. With our mighty Sadgurudeva we will be victorious. I humbly offer all that I am at the lotus feet of Sri Sri Sri Ganapati Sachidananda Swamiji. Om namo Hanumate namah.

  2. JGD. Constantly keeping Sri Sadguru in our thoughts, a vision of His Lotus Feet held firmly in our heart and His mantra constantly rolling off our tongues is the most effective weapon against these inner enemies. I pray my Gurudeva to bless me with such an achievement. Sri Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta, dear Appaji,

Very nice SGS MMS video for Monday. As the saying goes, “Monday Morning sickness” i feel lazy on Monday mornings…. but this video with superb explanation by Puttuji will invigorate our energy levels throughout the day. Looking at Lord Ganapathi is as if he is watching us and energizing us through the beautiful song, the crispness in the picture quality leaves pristine thoughts in our minds all day long. Watching this video even a dump moron will get energized and get going. I wish i could have watched this video in the morning :).

Very well said, Winning internal enemies is the real victory…. internal enemies are very dangerous and can make us fall down the ladder, if you win over our internal enemies then there will be no external enemies. Sri Swamiji has told many times, that Ramayana is within you…..With my Humble prostrations at the Lotus feet of our Pujya Guru Deva, I pray HH to give us strength to fight over our internal enemies.

JGD Appaji!! Superb reminder at the start of a week. Intrinsic Vighnas like Ego, lust, selfishness, fear, helplesness, lack of confidence and self esteem..list goes on. But your MMS is bang on. Consistently, offerring our first prayer to you (Vighan-nasana) wiil surely help us get over all our enemies and emerge victorious, so that we are worthy enough of being one with You. Prayers surely help us remain calm, composed and positive. Previous MMS about the power of prayers are reminded here again.
Bala Ganapathi is really really cute in this video. The shape that appears when Appaji joins hands is also a V, apart from what his fingers show. Appaji in my favorite white robe makes this MMS more appealing.
Thank You Puttuji for the explanation. JGD

There are many things inside we have to fight against: the ego, greed, violence, ambitiousness, possessiveness, and so on, so forth. These are the real enemies — fight with them. There is no need to fight with others — it is a sheer wastage of energy. However, conquering ‘Inner Enemies’ is like fighting an opponent we cannot see. These inner enemies make up the delusion that besets human beings. You should never allow these inner enemies to enter your heart. If you keep them out, you will be free of all difficulties and problems. To achieve that, you must treat joy and sorrow, profit and loss, heat and cold as all the same. When you develop such equanimity, these inner enemies will not touch you.

‘Mudal Mudal Vanakkam’ in the divine voice of our Sadgurudeva is truly enthralling. Entire Namarchana Tamil Album is available for download at                 iTunes – itunes.apple.com/us/artist/sri-ganapati-sachchidananda/id418448608 & Flip Kart – flipkart.com/mp3-downloads/albums/contributor-sri-ganapathy-sachchidananda-swamiji-cond9szgsveputpr .

Praying our Sadgurudeva to grace us with enough strength to identify and conquer our Inner Enemies.

Jaya Guru Datta! Thank You for the divine message, Puttuji! Thinking about today’s message, I feel that only a victory that leads to eternal happiness is true victory. Victory over external enemies can never lead to true happiness because if we overcome one enemy, another might crop up. We may even be lucky or powerful enough to be victorious in all our external battles, but we can never earn peace of mind because the mind always wants more.

Victory over our inner enemies give us the peace of mind that lasts forever. People that experience this peace of mind are the people who are truly happy. No one can take their happiness away! I want to experience this nectar of happiness, Appaji! But, as is always said, “No pain, no gain”. We will need to work hard to overcome our inner enemies first! So much to do, so little time! With Datta Sadguru as our guiding light, we will overcome our inner enemies. Obeisances to the Holy Lotus Feet!

Such a powerful sukta. I first heard Sri Swamiji sing this Tamil version of this bhajan in Chicago 2002.
Sri Swamiji’s nine-day visit to Chicago in the summer of 2002 brought my first nervous attempt to lead “Moda Modalu” during one of the morning bhajan sessions. I had only sung this song along with Swamiji from the “Ganapathy” cd. Needless to say, it was somewhat of an embarrassment when those trying to play the music and set the beat did it differently than how I learned to sing it. The Grace that transpired later that evening was wondrous. During that evening’s bhajan session, Sri Swamiji began singing “Moda Modalu,” but it was a different version than normal. The other musicians seemed to struggle in their attempt to follow Him. After this went on for sometime, He broke into the pallavi (chorus), as we knew it, looking directly at me with a huge smile. At that moment the man who had encouraged me to sing it that morning turned to me and said, “He’s singing this for you!” I had also felt that throughout the song, and His bright smile and blast of energy eliminated any doubt. I realized that although Sri Swamiji wasn’t physically in the room earlier that day, He knows all.
Koti Pranams to Datta Sadguru’s lotus feet.

Jai guru Datta, Appaji. Pranams to Lotus Feet.
Vashista Maha Muni in Yoga Vashista says that, once the Arishadvargas (inner enemies) are conquered, self-realization would only be AS DIFFICULT (easy) AS piercing a hole through a thin, young leaf with the sharpest needle available! These are our real enemies, and fighting them is one’s own initiative! Once initiative taken and effort put in, Sadguru Appaji IS ALWAYS THERE blessing, protecting, guiding and rendering helping hand! THERE IS NO DOUBT at all on that.
This video, with prayers to Ganesha, who resides in Mooladhara, the first of the Shat-Chakras in Sadhana journey, is aptly prepared, and is inspiring all of us to start our fight, beginning with Prostrations to Sri Ganapathi Guru Deva! Om Gam Ganapathaye Namaha. Sri Guru Datta.

    Real victory ~ 6 Aug 2012

Namaste Puttuji, thank you for the beautiful video in tamil language. A victory over inner enemies is the real victory. Victory over others hurts them instead victory over inner enemies gives contentment and equal mindedness as one do not have jealous, greed etc which are called as inner enemies. Sadguru helps His disciple to gain victory over inner enemies thus elevating him to His own level who has equal vision towards all, irrelevant to cast, creed, language etc.

    Hab Dank, DU mein GANAPATI-GURU!
