  1. 168 lessons we’ve learnt, are of value only if practiced within our inner self. Because, what we do in the world outside is only an expression of what we do inside of us. That lush greenery seen outside has its roots deep down inside. A man’s world is a projection of his mind

What controls the flow of that gushing river? Those rocks that guide it aren’t far from the water.. they’re right there where the river flows.. a part of the river itself.

Mind is a flow of thoughts. To control that river, we must take action where it flows – our inside. That’s self-control, over ego & desire.. symbolized here by Nagendra, who we invoke with reverence.

Pranams Gurudeva ! We’re following you. Please reside in our hearts as Skanda, whose peacock (blue, infinite-self) keeps the serpent (our ego) in check. We’re opening up with our arms stretched out, to feel your presence inside of us.. like how you feel Datta’s presence inside of you. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji

    JGD Appaji
Lord Dattatreya, Appaji and the sun .. amazing…Appaji is Lord Dattatreya Himself bringing the Light of knowledge (like the Sun) in our ignorant (dark) lives! Appaji’s divine voice dancing along with the images is simply superb..
A river that flows out of control causes floods and destruction similar to a mind out of control.
Just like rocks that control it are part of the river, the things that control the mind are within ourselves..that control can be obtained by constantly listening to Appaji only..and remembering and comtemplating on these MMS’s

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! This morning I was contemplating how once Ghandhi said that the inner part of our heart, nearest to the atman, is the the most turbulent part of ourselves. It takes self-control and discipline to have the courage to go through that dark thorny forest filled with ghosts from the past, childhood fears, buried anger, etc. to the divine castle within. So many saints have spoken about the dark night of the soul that happens just before a deep spiritual experience. Thank you for this reminder to keep practicing no matter what, to have the self control even during difficult days and to keep asking “Who am I? Who Am I? Who Am I?” Sri Guru Datta!

It isn’t really possible to control all, what is around of me. People are different and go their way. I can try to control these ways, but at the end it will not be possible to control all. When I try to make me a world how I like it, it will give problems. My possibility is an other: I can grow more and more in my heart. For this I must work on me and control me. As more as I work on me, I begin to understand. I are nice to the people, because I understand theire problems etc. Like this they love me and they try to make things, which I like also. Then it is a climate of love, and not of control.

  2. Jaya Guru Datta. Great message, Great Video. Self control is the Best to avoid any attractions. Bless us to learn and have self control.. We will try our best andcocentrate, not wander our mind. Pranams Swamiji. Om nagadevathaya namaha. Om namo Hanumathae namaha.

Jaya Guru Datta. We have already learnt in more than one MMS the advantages of yoga.
The Shama damaadi shatka sampatti- the wealth of controls and Yama niyama principles are all to make us reach salvation through one path or the other.
Where do these controls originate? Nowhere other than the inner self – our own minds.
We also learnt that gratification of desires doesn’t get rid of them. It is the control, particularly the self control that gets us past this cycle. Thank You Appaji for signifying this. A very loaded and appropriate message with lord Subrahmanya who is the Yogacharya.

Nobody else can know what is going on in me and what has to be controlled. So, the only possibility is that I care myself for this control. But still, am I, as an ordinary human being, really able to control myself in the right way? No! This control can only be good if it is in reality done by Sadguru Himself. The more I open my heart for you to come and reside in it, dear Appaji, the better and more effective the control will be! Then, if I “listen” well to you, the right things will be controlled at the right time in the right way, exactly as it is good for me. Yes, the result can be good only if „self control“ is „control by the REAL self“! I will try to open, open, open my heart more and more. Thank you for this precious message and beautiful video, dear Swamiji! Jaya Guru Datta!

Todays post on Jayalakshmi Mata facebbok, teaches us that Sadguru is the mirror. Yes, He helps us to practise self control..His arms open wide – He teaches us that self control helps in a flow – the flow of water, the growth of grass, the wide sky, the gushing green feathers…
Wonderful explanation by Puttu Gam Sri – enlightening & very well written.

    Jai Guru Datta,
selfcontrol is an intense task. There´s a controller and something wich is being controlled. The question is “how to control?” I once asked Sri Swamiji what I should do about my bad and ugly sides – if I should surpress them or fight with them or what. The answer was simple but so deep that it could only come from an incredible being like Sri Swamiji: He said: “respect, but don´t follow”. This little sentence gave my a livetime of work, a riddle to solve and a means to grow that is unparalleled: If I fight, I get intangled in violence against myself – I am caught in the pros and cons about something concerning myself. If I try to get my way around it it´s only making things worse. So I ended up looking for a new focus wich would be right in the center of my unwanted tendencies – not judging and also to restrain myself from following the tendencies. This is tremendously difficult for me. It is like getting cooked in hells kitchen – the kitchen of my own karma. I suffer, but while I keep the focus I find a different place within myself that simply keeps still and watches. I´m not really good at this, but pray with the help of my beloved Sadguru Sri Swamiji, I may succeed sometime. At least there´s some space to resort to in the midst of my agitation and when I failed to control myself once more I at least find a way to reflect on it afterwards and sort things out. I think what helped me is the hint Sri Swamiji gave, not to fight and get entangled, but to be gentle upon myself, but without remorse none the less.
Sri Swamiji, I am so thankfull for you, so much indepted to you, I have no words, only my humble prostrations.
    Sri Guru Datta

  4. Yogaha chitta vritti Nirodhaha- Sri swamiji summarized all of Patanjali yoga sutras through this message. Yoga is the control of the modifications of the mind. Thoughts are only one aspect of it. Self control includes the control of body. Prana, thoughts, emotions, intellect and the ego itself symbolized by the six houses/faces of Lord Subramania. Regards. Datta Yogi raja.

Who is self? It is HIM that is within me and everyone of us. If it is HIM within me then, I should automatically control myself from thinking/saying/doing all things that are not per His approval. Somehow, this is not the case with so many of us. Our past karma has gotten better of our minds and that’s why we tend to commit and repeat mistakes. We need a little more practice to be able to control our sense organs and our monkey minds. It is His grace alone that can help us achieve this. Prayers to you Appaji to help us train our minds so we can control it. Prostrations to your lotus feet. Jaya guru datta.

indicating us the direction to the light in good and bad times.
You teach us how to control our monkey-mind and our insatiable sensory organs.
Please help me to follow trustfully and persistently the riverbed You show me,

Dear Sadgurudeva, it is only with your grace I am learning to control my inner enemies. So far anger is being brought under control. There are still many other bad qualities that must be vanquished and with you helping me to fight I know I will one day succeed in self control. Thank you Appaji, none of this would be possible without YOU! Om namo Hanumate namaha. Jaya guru Datta.

    Jaya Guru Datta Puttuji,

We always tries to control outside things and never take time to find the underlying root of the problem. In this beautiful MMS video message, Pujya Sri Swamiji is instructing us to practice self control. Through yoga, nama sankeertana, japa…etc methods described in earlier MMS messages, we can practice to control our mind and in turn gain self control.

A  Man’s world is a projection of his mind. Puttuji, what a beautiful sentence you have given  in today’s MMS which has got a deep meaning if you think. In otherwords our mind has got a very important role in our life. Mind is the Root ( The basic cause) for all our actions, desires , thoughts etc. Therefore control the mind is the best way for everything. That is why Appaji is saying Self control is the Best control. Here Appaji is once again refining the MMS56,84,87, and128. Especially in MMS56 He says about Anger. Naturally self control is the best solution for this. In MMS84, Sadguru is purifying our mind and thereby unwanted desires will not flow through our mind. Similarly MMS 87, says desire mislead the mind and hence here also self control is the best way for it. Finally MMS128, says surrender to Guru is the best way with out waiting to fullfil all our desires. Here also Appaji is indirectly saying control your desires in such a way and surrender to Him. From these MMS, Appaji we got your concept and control ourselves where ever it is needed for which we follow your words and teachings strictly and develop spiritual path. The photography and the music are very apt for this MSG and Puttuji  you have already given a nice explanation for the same.    JGD.

    • Joseph on November 16, 2012 at 12:49 pm

Mind is the one, that discriminates the duality around us, like good or bad, happy or unhappy etc… But this duality does not exist in society or others, it is within us that creates all chaos as to what to be done or not to be done else as to what is right or wrong!!!! So control over mind for their thoughts and respective emotions is very essential. True that self control over thoughts and emotions is the best medicine for one to have healthy body and mind. Similarly, self control is the only best way to experience the almighty. May lord blesses us all to have better self control, so that we don’t waste our time only in fulfilling desires but also to achieve the main reason for which God has gifted us with this life and be good humans in society.

I could watch for hours sri swamiji in front of the powerful refreshing river. He is the Divine water, river, the rock and the supreme controlling.
Self control is badly necessary and I am painfully aware where I am not able to control – my autonomic nervous system, my reactions, my perceptions, my agitated mind. I can only pray to my beloved sadguru that You may continue to silently and patiently teach me in gaining more and more Self control. if for moments it is possible to be directed by Your wish and will, and no longer by conditioning and mental conceptions, it is marvellous. may this, by Your grace, become a constant state of being and living.

Self control is the best control ~ 15 Nov 2012

Our biggest challenge is keeping our senses under control. Sri Swamiji recently taught us about the dangers of doing anything in excess in our lives. We find it so difficult to control our tongue – be it in speech or in desire or craving to eat! We need to exercise control over this. Another dangerous enemy is anger. How often do we pause to think when we are angry? We respond impulsively, hurt others and ourselves eventually. Our desires for worldly objects, wealth etc.. seems endless. Do we keep a tab on our desires and greed? Our greatest enemy is our ego! We feel that we are the greatest, faultless and the perfect human being on earth! Everyone else in the world is incorrect and we find flaws in them. What an irony! Do we introspect at all?? Jealousy – another enemy! If Sri Swamiji talks to another person, we are jealous! Sri Swamiji is warning us through this MMS to learn to exercise self-control on our senses and put a check on our inner enemies. The more these enemies are let lose, the more harm they cause us. When we keep our desires under control, energy manifests and that can be channelized in the right direction. With the grace and guidance of Sadguru, it is possible to learn and exercise Self control and progress in the spiritual path. Thank you Appaji for another very very important message. Jaya Guru Datta!

    • Archana Penukonda on December 17, 2012 at 3:00 am

Jaya Guru Datta! When a householder sits down to pray, he may try to shush everyone else in the house down so he can have some quiet in the house. But, this message tells me that it’s better for the householder to find that quiet within him and not control other people. Controlling who lives in your neighborhood or what your friends like to eat is not practical. But, controlling your own character and resisting temptation to eat everything your friends eat is sustainable. Building that control within you will prepare you for other such situations. Self control is the practical, sustainable and dharmic way of conducting oneself. Thank You, Puttuji. Before I try to control the situations around me, I will need to look within and make sure I’m exercising control over myself. Obeisances to the Holy Lotus Feet!
