  1. This one is aimed at those who aspire for spiritual initiation.. to make it big in their inner world. They haven’t yet found their Guru. Or, they think they have, but they relate with their Guru at the gross, mortal level.. leveraging the relationship for managing mundane matters of samsara.. and lament at not being able to get started in the spiritual path. They have butter in their hands and are looking for ghee. They are always searching for a Guru. This MMS asks them to stop searching.. and instead introspect if they are ready for spiritual initiation. For, when they are, the Guru will come to the disciple.

Daddy takes sons aged five and fifteen to the neighborhood mall. He quickly finds himself torn between diverse interests. The fifteen year old is drawn towards motorcycles, tight jeans and gym equipment.. while the five year old is drawn towards toy cycles, chocolates and cartoons. The fifteen year old in his impatience asks dad “Why is that kid not interested in Harley Davidson ?” Dad just says “He hasn’t grown up to real bikes yet. Neither were you.. at his age”. Do motorcycles grow up in children’s minds ? Or do children’s minds grow up to motor cycles ? Have you noticed that when in a mall, what we yearn for (Eg: Sarees.. gadgets) almost always pop up in front of our eyes? When the boy’s mind is ready, motorcycles come screaming in front of his eyes. He doesn’t have to look for them.

Let’s stretch that from the gross to the subtle spiritual realm.. as this MMS does. Flowers don’t bloom expecting butterflies to come and pollinate them. Flowers bloom. Period. When they do, the butterfly comes for the nectar, pollinates the flower. Such is the Law of Her creation. She is ‘Sarvabharana bhushita’ – . The various elements of this universe in their magnificence are the ornaments she wears.. the flowers, the butterflies, the mountains.. all included. A novice is awed looking at the ornaments.. ‘Those ornaments are so beautiful’. As he contemplates in serious sadhana, he transcends to a point where he stands in awe of the Mother.. ‘She is the magnificence bringing beauty into those ornaments’. Noted the subtle transformation ?

When that inner flowering happens, the butterfly comes. When that little spark of knowledge lights up in the mind, the Guru comes, to fan that little spark into a fire of self-realization. The flower blooms because the plant is rooted in one place. Similarly, the disciple has to stay rooted in one school of spiritual practice. The rest is nature.. invoked here as the Divine Mother – ‘HakArarUpA’ – < worshipped by the one who carries the plough - Lord Balarama> According to Srimad Bhagavatam, Balarama – elder brother of Krishna, is the source of the entire spiritual world, the adi-guru, the original spiritual master. Such mighty masters worship her, to make spiritual progress. Her law prevails for Balarama, the butterfly and the blooming flower. When we are ready for spiritual initiation the Guru will come.

In this MMS as always, Appaji doesn’t stop with asking us to be ready for spiritual initiation. He also sets the process going with Music for Meditation played by Gurudeva himself – ‘Palaya mamiha sadguru datta’ – close your eyes as you listen, and feel the mind take flight in contemplation. Dear Gurudeva, Many means you have created for our sadhana.. Nama Japa, Nama Sankirtana, Nitya Puja, Kriya Yoga. We will root ourselves in such practice and be ready for spiritual initiation. When we do that, we know you will come in our subtle realm, and lead us on the path to self-realization.. For, you are Dattatreya yourself. You are santata mangala dhayaka’ . With humble pranams at your holy feet,
    Jaya Guru Datta,
    Your Puttuji.

Very beautiful MMS with as always the right background score related to the MMS!
    Puttuji’s explanation says it all

Just as a butterfly pollinates the flower when it is ready, without disturbing the flower..Sadguru without us knowing invokes subtle changes in us and starts filling our heart, once it is empty of wordly affairs. Our only job is to make our mind/heart empty by Following the Master!

I work as therapist and during my work I often feel the help from Swamiji. Always, when a situation is very difficult, I ask Swamiji to help. Then I feel His help. Sometimes I feel during a session, that now I must speak to this person about Swamiji. People are then very intrested and I give them material to make conoscenes with Swamiji. It is always the time, when someone is ready for this step. Like this we are now a big group from persons, which makes also a satsang together.

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! What a touchiing metaphor of the disciple as a blooming flower and the Guru as the butterfly! The saying “stop wanting and start having” came to mind as I read this message this morning as did the saying “bloom where you are planted.” Such a beautiful reminder that when we do our sadhana as you have given it to each of us, we need not worry about anything else, At the right moment, when we are ready, you will be there. You have given each of us something different to do–sometimes, it’s creating a nice home and sometimes it’s doing our job in the world and sometimes it’s more spiritual things…all of it is sadhana. Like Lord Krishna you are reminding us to do our duty and the natural flow of dharma will unfold and you will be there at just the right time! With each of these messages, you are giving us a small sadhanas to practice each day….they are like little initiations….Sri Guru Datta!

  2. What a divine message and a beautiful video, Appaji! Thank you very much. This video and message gives a feeling that the divine light is shining on us.

  3. The video represents the meaning of the Bhajan – Devi Viradupamainatti Neeku Prakruti…”. The melody from Bhajan “Palaya Mamiha” in Hamsanandi Ragam – is sonorous and peaceful.
I recall so many instances when Appaji went in search of disciples. Also in subtle forms to Bless and redeem them and to initiate them.
    Pranams to Sadgurudeva’s Pada Kamalas

    Jaya Guru Hanuman,

When we tie a thoram at KSHT Hanuman temple the poojari says may we be blessed with continous Guru Bhakti, Guru Seva yogyata (qualification). That got me into thinking whether one needs to be qualified for Guru darshan, Guru Bhakti, Guru Seva and Guru Anugraham? This
MMS confirmed the doubt. We need to be qualified for Guru just as a field needs to be ready
before it can be used for cultivation.

Swamiji says – “Guru and God will not come to you unless you approach them with humility and submissiveness”. We have done some good deeds earlier to have Guru in our lives. In order to be continously qualified for Guru’s grace we have to follow the teachings of the master, apply them in our lives and transform ourselves internally. If we do not then we risk loosing the qualification.

Swamiji said in a speech – “People perform good deeds like japa, tapa, dana before Guru enters their lives. Once Guru enters their lives, people tend to take it easy and leave all the sadhana behind thinking that there is nothing more to do. This is wrong. One has to do more sadhana after Guru darshan then only one will be elevated”.

Let us all understand these MMS’es, apply them in our lives and be qualified to continously receive his grace. Below is a excerpt from World Peace Bhajan (Shaantirastu tushtirastu pushtirastu – Sarva loka sarva kaala shaantirastu) by Sri Swamiji.

Guruvaraanghri bhaktirastu yogyataastu – Saadhu sujana nitya sanga siddhirastu
Let there be surrender at the Guru’s feet! Let that be a qualification!
Let there always be company of saints and noble souls!

Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji

    Om namo hanumate namaha

What a beautiful and peaceful MMS !!! The similes drawn, the pictorial representation of the same, the bhajan “Paalaya Maamiha Sadguru Datta” played by Sri Swamiji are creating a wonderful world within, making the external world so peaceful. The MMS is yet another idea of Sri Swamiji that is unique and very effective. The world is taking on a different shape with this daily tonic. Our current sadhana is awaiting the mms of the day !!! Yes, Guru comes to the disciple for spiritual initiation & to guide the disciple in right path like Sri Swamiji guides all His disciples. Coming to disciple is not necessarily in form, it is the right mind provoking thought at right time. Every MMS by Sri Swamiji is like Sri Swamiji reaching His desciple to guide them in right path through messages. Blessed am i by Jesus, to have Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji in my life.

    • Hema on August 30, 2012 at 4:22 pm

This MMS raises a very important point about the Guru/Disciple relationship. When the student is ready the teacher will come. We have heard this expression. Sadgurudeva is in all our lives, we all recognize him as our Sadguru. So what remains to be done? Many of us myself included , have thought that because we have Sadguru, now all our problems will vanish and spiritual knowledge will come easily. In my case this has not been my experience. In fact and all my spiritual growth has come by applying myself like a student preparing for exams. There have been tests and problems galore. Slowly I realized that these tests were bringing me closer to guru, purifying me and making me more fit for spiritual elevation. I also realized with relief that I was always protected by Sadgurudeva and that my trust and fate in him strengthened his presence in my life. He shows himself to me in many ways and I know that as I become more fit he will reveal more of his greatness. All the struggles are worth it because it brings you closer to Him. After all that is the only true goal!

    • on August 30, 2012 at 4:40 pm

You are Datta !! You have incarnated as Guru to remove our difficulties. You descended as Guru down to the level of humanity due to your compassion to guide and uplift us!!

You are like the Sun to our Lotus hearts !! You are the head of our family !! You are
Everything for us !! You reside in our hearts. We practice the sadhana (butter) blessed
and given to us, and with Thailadhara devotion (heat) waiting for Sadgurudeva to take
us to the path of self realisation soon !!

Pujya Puttuji you make the lesson very interesting by taking us to two young boys with their father in a Mall, to Lord Balarama with Divine Mother and the Universe !! As you suggested Puttuji We will strongly root in Appaji’s School of Spirituality practice sadhana regularly and bloom like flowers and wait for Sadgurudeva to come and take us on the path of self realisation !!

    Saccidananda yatisvara Datta !!
Sri Guru Datta Hanuman ki Jai !! Om Namo Hanumathe Namaha !!

    • Venkat Pydimarri on August 30, 2012 at 7:08 pm

Jaya Guru Datta. Puttuji rocks!!! Guru comes to disciple when the disciple is ready. It is an illusion that we feel great about REACHING a Guru, GOING TO A Guru. By saying so, we try to induce that undue credit onto ourselves. I vividly remember a discourse where Appaji said, ‘people think they came to Appaji, they FOUND Appaji, THEY met Appaji etc – however, that is foolishness. It is written by ME(Appaji), it is PREDECIDED that such a person will come have darshan on a certain day, meet and get blessings on a certain day et al’ . How true? this is pre-written and Appaji is witnessing all this as a ‘saakshi maatra’. If we are going in a whirl – ONLY if we are ready – we get to even think of getting the help from Sadugurdeva. Even that thought is a prasaadam from Appaji – that will not come unless He thinks of coming to us. The MMS teaches us that all we have to do is prepare ourselves. the vessel has to be clean to retain milk. Thanks a lot Appaji.

ONHN. Dear Puttuji, I really appreciate your discourse today. I’ll take it if I may and pray that I hear only Sadguru in every passing song in the radio and in every person who speaks; in every sight I behold pleasant or unpleasant and in all other perceptions, may it only be Datta Datta Datta!!! ONHN.

    • on August 30, 2012 at 10:46 pm

JGD Appaji, JGD Puttuji!! As I was watching this MMS, I was reminded of 4 different revelations.
    1. Guru and God will not come to you unless you approach them with humility and submissiveness.
    2. If one takes one step towards Guru with devotion, Guru Himself takes the next 10 steps to come to His disciple.
    3. I will remember you forever. Once you take Vibhooti or some Prasad from Swamiji, I will not leave you. Even if your Buddhi goes to coma, I will look for you. Whatever circumstances made you leave Swamiji; the same circumstances will bring you back to Swamiji. Swamiji is as varied as people’s wants are. Swamiji is available in all colors, hues, and faces.
    4. Allow Swamiji to cleanse you. He can only cleanse you if you keep your mind free from worldy desires.
Today’s MMS reminded me about how I was drawn to Sri Appaji! All these 4 revelations are absolutely true. These are the paths one must adopt if they need to be spiritually uplifted. Appaji has been guiding me in various different ways, some subtle, some blatant. Dreams are also one of HIS many ways to wake us up from slumber. Appaji’s ways are very subtle, but the changes His children go through are so obvious to the disciple himself. Thank You Appaji for the initiation, thak you for bringing me closer to you. I may have good done some good deeds in past that has made me take birth in this same time and space as You, just so that I be uplifted by You. Bless me to have the ability and strength to serve you more. JGD.

Jai Guru Datta Appaji! Today when walking with Evey after the big storm there was a single orange flower left and a bright yellow butterfly appeared- just like today’s Puttugam video! Also there were two rainbows in the sky! Thank You for such blessings… little glimmers of Shakti Mata after such a dark, threatening time. Always You are comming to say “hello there! all is well!”

    • Praveen Nidumolu on August 31, 2012 at 1:10 am

Jaya Guru Datta Appaji – Two distinct thoughts came to mind as I watched this amazing MMS Video message with the soothing and mellifluous background music:

It is amazing how you ‘prepare’ and ‘initiate’ your devotees into some form of Spiritual Sadhana, before Gracing them at the ‘RIGHT AUSPICIOUS’ time and convert them into ‘FOLLOWERS’. The transformation is so tough and sometimes slow yet very much is a progression – just as Puttuji elaborated, we graduate from liking marbles to bicycles to Motorbikes to bigger material possessions (toys)… and eventually outgrow all these and get ‘attracted’ to the ‘Awe inspiring’ Life of Pujya Appaji and get completely mesmerized by His Divine Compassionate Smiling Form and His Music.
Thanks for transforming us from caterpillars to beautiful butterflies… so, we can seek the Sweet Sachchidananda-Amrita in You!

It is quite amazing to watch some of your Nandana MMS Video messages and realize that you have actually whispered (revealed) the essence of some of these messages during a previous subtle experience internally (Heart to Heart) several years ago – similar to how a Butterfly picks a flower and pollinates it and trasforms it permanently to fruition!!! Your myriad ways are so mystical and powerful! It is impossible to fathom the realms at which you so magically operate. This is quite a humbling experience (writing with goosebumps).

Forever grateful to you for Your Grace and Compassion! Koti Pranams to your Lotus feet.
    Sri Guru Datta

The Guru comes to the disciple ~ 30 Aug 2012

Namaste Puttuji. Thank You for a nice video. Guru comes to the devotee when he is ready for initiation. In Appaji’s life history, Appaji says that Guru waits for lives to initiate a devotee. 80% of this incarnation is for people who come to Appaji for worldly things. 20% for spiritual seekers but it is difficult to get such people who can utilise that 20%. When a devotee is ready for initiation, Guru will not waste even a second of devotee’s life without initiating. It is we, who should introspect ourselves in every matter and be ready as per Guru’s expectation and that is possible only by His grace and hence instead of wishing for worldly desires, if one prays to develop more and more devotion towards Guru, everything in the world and above are possible. Namaste Puttuji. Thank You so much.
