  1. Divine visuals. Divine music – Track3, CD3, Appaji70

Mind is a flow of thoughts – perceptions – triggered by stimuli from the senses. A diabetic sees a cup of desert, His mind makes his mouth water. His intellect says “No”. Life is a series of Stimulus –> Perception –> Choice.

A child must play with anything around. A mind must perceive its world of objects. When input is sattvic, perception dispassionate and intellect is driven by righteousness, infinite strength springs from within.. as it did with Hanuman. How much energy we waste.. allowing our senses to wander, our perceptions to flounder (attachment), and our intellect to blunt (confusion)!

Nama smarana avoids energy waste, keeps senses focussed on the Lord, mind & intellect focussed on his divine purpose – The Hanuman in each of us then comes alive.

Pranams Gurudeva ! You’re our Rama. We’re your Hanuman. We’ll chant Rama nama & focus our energy in serving your mission. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji

I have a problem with chanting the names of God: I think, I shouldn’t think other things than on God. But I can Chant the names and at the same time think on other things. I think, that without thinking it would be more effektiv, more powerful. But I hope, that only chanting, the sound, the words, have a power and will help me, to concentrate better and better!

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji for this good reminder this morning that we need to chant God’s name. When I first learned to chant mantras, I innocently wondered how I could get through the day without thinking. Now I wonder how I can get through the day without chanting mantras. Chanting God’s name truly helps us overcome negative thoughts and removes us from those needless dramas that we play out in our minds. You have given us so many wonderful mantras over the years. Now we have “Om Namo Hanumate Namaha.” How many personal and global miracles have come from this mantra! Let us all remember to chant this and personal mantras Sri Swamiji has given us each day….You have clearly demonstrated to us their effectiveness both on an individual and global level. Om Namo Hanumate Namaha!

Jaya Guru Datta! Appaji please show me my self!

  3. This mms reminds me of Sri swamiji’s composition, ‘ Re mann jhoomat gao hari ke gun ‘ in which it is beautifully explained as to why god has given us the jnanendriya’s and karmendriya’s …

Nayan for hari darshan , shravan for listening to hari keerthan, jihva for hari Namasmarana etc ..
When we listen and chant aloud anything that we want to learn , we learn it faster as there is more concentration .. Remember Sri swamiji mentioning this in one of the speeches .. If we chant the lord’s name , all our attention is channelized towards him , bringing upon good vibes in our mind and senses ..

    • Sundaram Sambamoorthy on October 4, 2012 at 9:28 am

I have personally experienced this fact. Chanting of the Lord’s name creates a vibration within me and I stay positive and experience bliss. No other negative thoughts interrupt my intellect and I am able to think positively and act positively. I keep humming Swamiji’s Bhajans though I have only recently started knowing Bhajans and singing in satsanghs.. I see a vast improvement in my intellect and also strengthens my resolve to achieve the objectives I have laid down for myself.

  4. Puttugamji JGD & SGD. Chanting Gods name strengthens the senses. As we go on chanting
Gods name, the same becomes a Mantra full of powerful seed letters or primary sounds. These primary sounds reverberate and produce sonic energy, which is helpful to environment and fellow beings. We have to pray, repeat the name of God until some thing happens ( PUSH ).

Jai Guru Datta Appaji – Your elaborate explanation of how chanting strengthens our 5 indriyas (senses) and the 4 antah-karanas (4 minds- Manas, Buddhi, Chitta & Ahankara) and improves our internal focus – so we can experience Dharana and Dhyana for longer periods of time leading to the Samadhi state (total union) is so amazing! Puttuji’s explanation breaks down the most complex concepts of Vedanta into simple practical tips that we can use! Jayaho Puttuji!

Music seems to have been always associated with a way to express Bhakti. Appaji knows that chanting a mantra/beejakshara for long periods can be difficult for our wavering minds. Hence, Bhajana Yoga was introduced to all of us as a means to experience the ultimate Union and Bliss. Music calms our mind and the beejaksharas and Namasankeertana in the bhajans strengthen & cleanse us. Appajis bhajans are awesome tools to chant the Lords name in a ‘musical’ way!

The bhajan is so melodious and felt instant cleansing… it is full of Bhakti Rasa and Aavedana (Yearning for the Lord). Om Namo Hanumate Namaha!

    Sri Guru Datta!

Jaya Guru Datta Appaji… this is a simple sookti to make our lives much more pleasant to live.
I recall a story… I go to see a friend, I see a board warning me of dogs. I go inside and the dogs bark. The most natural thing that comes to my mind and I do, is to shout for help, with the name of the OWNER!!! listening to the name of the owner the dogs mellow down and are silent – knowing the owner’s name and calling out shows I am a friend of his or want to befriend him. That is about the new place, – lets apply the same to the body – this temporary new body, new surroundings, new karma. The dogs here are my sense organs – they threaten to derail my practice, they scare me to succumb to their demands – WHAT SHOULD I DO? SAME THING AS I DID WITH THE DOGS – CALL OUT THE NAME OF THE OWNER – THE LORD. The effect is the same, dogs become silent… Senses get positive strength. Thank You Appaji…

I have felt more alive and aware since this practice began years ago. So much tranquility and attenuation to the world is one of the greatest desires. It can happen by chanting God’s name. I am grateful for the proper pronunciation presented by my Datta Sadguru, Sri Swamiji. He makes it easy with the pleasing sound of His voice. Many cd’s have been published where He recites for learning japam. Sri Guru Datta

Jaya Guru Datta! I have understood that chanting God’s name is very sattvic. The sookti says that then, the senses are strengthened. This is confusing to me at first because I thought that we are to overcome our senses in order to turn inwards to the inner light and inner world. So why wanting to put emphasis on the senses? But does strengthen here mean to become more sattvic senses, i.e. functioning in a qualitatively better way (sattvic), rather than quantitatively more? Then again it would make sense. May we all be blessed to be focussed on chanting God’s name like the veda students and priests in the video. Sri Guru Datta!

JGD. It is said that faith can move mountains. Sri Swamiji has amply demonstrated the power derived from chanting God’s name and performing service to Him. I thank Appaji for granting this opportunity to be at the divine feet of the Supreme Master in this lifetime.

  6. Remembering God or Guru with love and longing the way a girl pines for her lover keeps full focus on Him. Chanting mechanically with a roaming mind and turning beads for count purposes only is not appealing to me, although it may also carry a benefit in a worldly sense by giving special skills and powers by sheer concentration on the sound. The joy and boss that come with total absorption in Guru take me to a different plane altogether. May that experience become permanent by Guru’s grace. Jaya Guru Datta

awesome bhajan and beautiful MMS video message. Pujya Sri Swamiji has given us different paths to self-realization, now in the MMS message pujya guru deva is telling us the importance of Japa. The syllabus of these mantra’s contain beeja akshara’s and generate positive vibrations when we silently sit down and do japa. Thank you Appaji for telling us the importance of Japa in the short 2 mins MMS video. We will follow Appaji’s words.

JGD Appaji. This was a gentle reminder this morning for me. I was getting ready to work and something triggered anger within me. This trigger was so powerful that I stopped my morning ritual of chanting Saguru Stavam. I found myself shouting for nothing. It hit my mind that I stopped chanting my prayer and immediately started again. The immediate effect of it was a silent mind and no more anger. I am amazed at my own ability to immediately turn my mind to you in spite of any disturbance. I was not like this before and I owe this ability to your compassionate grace. JGD!

JGD.Mantra japa in sitting or staticstanding has its effects of efficacy all over the physic starting from the Aagjaa chakra, controlling the mind focussing it to the mantraakshara, preventing it from browsing/loitering elsewhere. This saves lot of physical energy as well as mind’s stability. It leads one to clear and clarity of thoughts and deeds.Chanting louder may some times deviate sensory organs due to their apparent behaviour.Ofcourse bhajans mend the human behaviour towards spirituality.SGD

What a nice and beautifully MMS, Appaji has given today. It is a fact that in this Kaliyuga, most of the people are very busy in earning money for worldly affaires and forget the God. But when anything seriously happend in the life then only they realize and think about God. Here I even remember Appaji’s words saying that many people will say that we have to follow a Guru for the development in the spiritual path only in the latter part of the life. But here Appaji is asking for such type of people what is the guarantee that you will live up to that time. God has given this birth to us only to do good deeds. Therefore Appaji is reminding here for such people instead of wasting our time and energy for unwanted things, we should follow a Sadguru to develop the spiritual path symaltaniously. How a teacher is taking effort to build up the carrier of a student similarly a Sadguru will lead us to develop our Spirutal path. Appaji we see you as our Rama and we are your Hanumanand develop chanting mantras and do best for your mission.   JGD.

Chanting God’s name or prayer is to concentrate mind on the form and qualities of God. This is one of the path to reach or be in association with lord. Else we are so much occupied with our own thoughts that sometimes we forget the eternal fact of life that ‘body is not permanent only omnipresent lord is eternal’ and should do good deeds when there is healthy body and be in association with lord in thoughts for whatever is the deed performed. Chanting God’s name keeps us aware of the eternal fact, thus prevents us from galloping to satisfy all the desires like earning excess money for luxury but still not able to help others in spite of surplus resources of money. This type of desires and further cycle of performing bad deeds or wrong thoughts can be freed by chanting God’s name.

what a concentration in the faces of the vedastudents, silently chanting their mantras. what a beautiful image deeply stirring a longing for this quality of concentration and absorption in the Divine. and what a never-thought-of truth ! for the western experience and mind it seems like a completely different exotic world and I wonder what would result from practising the chanting in our schools … again and again sri swamiji is teaching us the basic lessons in such a loving and ever-new way. may we become more and more able to practise and realize the teachings of our beloved sadguru.

Chanting God’s name strengthens the senses ~ 4 Oct 2012

Namaste Puttuji, beautiful video with Om Namo Hanumate Namah as an opening mantra with beautiful bhajan and the quote explaining why Appaji always tells us not to waste time but keep chanting. Chanting God’s name strengthens the senses which always aspire for material pleasures. They must have strength to turn to spirituality keeping all material pleasures in control which chanting God’s name alone gives. Thank You Appaji for Your patience for inspiring us many times to chant different mantras. Namaste.

Continuous chanting of Gods name brings peace of mind. The name of God is so powerful that it has the ability to still our minds, remove negative thoughts. When we practice this regularly with concentration, webcam definitely experience a change within ourselves. Our intellect can be directed towards spiritual practices. Sri Swamiji has always urged us to practice chanting names, writing Hanumam Mantra. He has given the Updesha of Datta Raksha mantra, Navagraha stotra, hanuman mantra. Chanting has now become a way of life. Even while performing our daily duties, we chant mantra involuntarily! Thank you Appaji for having transformed thousands of us towards this. Like Hanuman who has become immortal just to chant Rama’s name, let us all chants the Lords name always! Jaya Guru Datta

Chanting God’s name is a panacea for all problems.. Initially we may do it for strength to resolve any material problems,, but once its a habit, we realize its true potential of increasing our mental and spiritual strength..
