1 Aug: God has gifted this life

How many of us believe this life has been ‘Gifted’ to us ? If we do, we realize that: 1) We got it free of cost. 2) We should reciprocate that gesture. So, what is our return gift to God ? His Holiness answers – We should ‘serve’ God, as our return gift to him. Now, the question arises – How to serve God ? Our Appaji has said again and again – ‘Manava Seva is Madhava Seva’. Service to humanity is service to God.. Appaji’s Avatara in itself, is a live example of such service.

In another illustration, this MMS begins with invoking Parashurama – the 6th Avatara of Mahavishnu. Parashu gets his name because he got an axe (parashu in Sanskrit) as a gift from Shiva who was delighted by his penance. He reciprocated that gesture by using that axe to fight for and protect the entire Brahmin community. According to ancient lore, Parashurama fought and won over the Kshatriyas. He distributed all their land to the Brahmins. He fought the sea and protected the entire Konkan coastline. Service to society was the main theme of this Avatara. Very apt invocation!

Animals and plants have also received the gift of life from God. Unlike man, they return the gesture very well. A cow returns enough manure for all the grass it gets to eat. A flower spreads enough fragrance for every bit of water, light and air it consumes. One is reminded of Appaji’s Kannada bhajan in the album Nada Sangama – ‘Huvu ondu pada seri seve maaditu’ – in which He wants us to learn from a flower, a cow and a tree about how to live a life of service. ‘Buddhi baarado namage buddhi baarado’ He provokes.. like He does in this MMS, with visuals of the jungle, plants and flowers.

When one lives a life of service to humanity, the Gods blesses him with liberation – Moksha – freedom from the cycle of births and deaths. This is what Lord Dattatreya did to Parashurama. Our Gurudeva desires that we too enjoy that liberation.. which is why He is commanding us to serve humanity. Thankful Pranams to our Sri Mata – His Holiness – who takes the pains to groom us on the path to liberation with such divine MMS experiences.
    We will follow you Appaji.
    Jaya Guru Datta. Your Puttuji.

    Jaya Guru Datta,
Yes, God gave us this life to do good KARMA and attain a spiritual path to reach HIM ultimately. For this we have to simply follow SADGURU’s teachings. We, the Dutta Bhaktas are very lucky, because we got the DUTTA DEVA HIMSELF as our GURU and we simply follow HIS teachings and pray HIM.
    Jaya Guru Datta!
    Om Sri Sadgurave Namaha!

Jaya Guru Datta, Appaji, I smiled when I read this. Anyone who grew up going to Catholic schools as many of us did know that from the time we were little we had to learn our catechism questions to take our confirmation. The first question was “Who made me?” The answer was “God made me.” The second question was “Why did God make me?” And the answer was “To know Him, Love Him and Serve HIm…” This was something we recited over and over again in daily religion class from first grade until we took our confirmation in sixth grade and I can hear those little voices of my childhood chanting this in sing song voices over and over again. I love that this message extends across faiths and that you have brought this reminder to us again this morning. I love seeing Sri Swamiji in the garden and thought of how much you have served Mother Earth with Bonsai garden and how much you have served us all. You are the best example we have of service to God! May we all learn to be as generous as you….

    • Chakravarthy Terlapu on August 1, 2012 at 12:53 pm

Jaya Guru Hanuman, Thank you for the beautiful message Swamiji. In this message there are few important questions for us to understand. The answers I try providing to these questions are from Sri Swamiji’s Neetimala book.

    1) Who is God?

When we look around us and analyze nature we can understand that everything in this universe exists because of some underlying power. Some examples to think are: how do trees grow from small seeds, what causes the seasons to change, who causes the sun to shine, who provides food to millions of animals on this planet etc. This underlying power is the cause of creation, preservation and destruction. This underlying power is refered as Ganapathi, Devi, Vishnu, Surya, Skanda, Shiva, Jesus, Allah etc. It is said that this whole universe is projected from God and hence God exists everywhere and in everything.

    2) Did God gift this life to us or are we born because of parents?

The difference between living and dead being is an underlying power. In a dead person the body is still there, brain is there, all organs are there but none of them are functioning. If a living being thinks that his body exists because of oneself can we make our organs stop at will or can we cure our organs by ourselves when diseases takes over? Doctors can only cure small percentage of diseases that occur in our body. As an example I had chronic diarrhea 4 times in a span of 3 months. It was really painful for me and I lost 20 lbs. I went to specialists in America and they did all tests including colonoscopy, endoscopy etc. but could not find anything. When I had darshan of Sri Swamiji and took Sree Chakra pooja teertha my disease got cured automatically.

Even in the mothers womb what is the power that causes the foetus to grow to a healthy baby? what is the power that constantly feeds it for so many months and protects it? Parents do not put the organs of the baby together. The baby as it grows faces so many risks but it is God that constantly protects it. Parents cannot be with the baby 24 hours a day. As we analyze we see that it is God that has gifted this life for us and is always constantly protecting us.

Sri Swamiji says that life and death are in our hands but how we want to lead our life is in our hands. The easiest way to lead the best life is to follow Sri Swamiji.

    3) How to serve God?

Swamiji says that seeing God everywhere and serving him is the highest form of worship. We should see God not only in images but also in the poor and needy, in trees, in rivers etc. We should serve the poor and needy by sharing with them what we have. We should protect trees, rivers and help in preserving the environment which provides us with everything.

Let us all pray to Sri Swamiji to bless us with strength and health to serve God.

Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji who is the ideal of service.

    Om namo hanumate namaha

    Jaya Guru Datta.

Nice video of animals running in plains and flower plants bush.
Every living being on earth got the life as a gift from god. Except man, all other living beings are serving god directly or indirectly and working on cause of god to get freedom from cycle of births & deaths ( Janana Marana Chakram).
We human treat our life is our own and can live on our own wish and we do dushkarma’s which leads to fall in life cycle.
Pujya Guru Deva shown us the cause of our life and guided us to serve god (creator) in different ways. In this Avatara he is showing us his own life as example serving people(Manava Seva is Madhava Seva). His Holiness taking all the pain to guide and grooming us to the path of liberation.

    Sri Guru Datta.

It is a wonderful video, the meaning goes deep in my heart. God have a plan with us, and when we follow this plan, we can feel god in us. We shoud serve him. But how I serve Him? What is the way? Swamiji knows the answer for me and He is guiding me through my life that all, what I do, will be a serving for God. I will hear the voice from Swamiji in me and follow it, then I go the right way!

Jaya Guru Datta. Wonderful video with appealing visuals. Yet again, the synthesis of all the messages hitherto given, is showing up in this MMS. This life is a gift for us by the Lord God and there has to be a purpose for that gift. Almighty’s gift cannot go waste and shouldnt be wasted at all. Lets all pray to Appaji, our Lord, that we be given good strenth to follow and reach the purpose of this gifted life and not waste this wonderful gift. Thank You Appaji for reminding us all. Jai Guru Datta Appaji !!

Datta Avatara Appaji earlier said that “Our purpose in life is to help others” and to do good deeds. In this beautiful, powerful SGS MMS talks about our return gift to God. All knowing Appaji wants us to see God in everyone and serve, with joy, realising our Sadguru’s “Manava Seva is Madhava Seva ” Principle.

That is the reason our Appaji takes the pain, effort, without any rest giving us Divine Nandana SGS MMS, with His Team to correct and take us towards the path to liberation.
What a compassion and love !!

We will follow you Jai Sriram !!

Very nice message and guidance. Service to man is service to God. How to serve other person? I feel as a first step if we can conduct ourselves well, by not inflicting any inconvenience, pain or difficulties to others, either knowingly or unknowingly, I believe will be the is the first step of service to mankind. Once we conduct ourselves well then the next would be to use the energy gifted by GOD to serve others both physically and mentally in various ways on various occasions.

Pranams to the Lotus feet of Sadguru Sri Swamiji.

  2. It seems like just a short while ago. That I bombarded GOD with every possible want. It seems that I expected HIM to serve me. I offer my prostrations and apologies to Pujya Sri Swamiji. In gratitude for this life, we must constantly serve Guru and god by serving others. As Sadguru reminded us all our thoughts and actions must be virtuous. When we go out into the world and interact with others, we have a duty to conduct ourselves in a manner that is fitting to a disciple of Sri Swamiji. He is everywhere and sees everything we do. In return for all the tremendous blessings and love he bestows on us let us resolve to serve him with not only love and devotion but also in our word, thoughts and deeds. Let us strive to live up to all his teachings. It is not always easy but if we sincerely try our Sadguru always helps us.

Life is a gift. We take things for granted, and do not take the gift seriously and spend out lives for self means.
Manava Seva is Madhava seva…Appaji made even this seva easily available for us to utilize.
There is a strange happiness one gets out of volunteering to help others with no returns…but, the happiness you feel is the return.
Koti pranams Appaji, you led us here. Where, we have the oppurtunity to do seva and do something in return for having this blessed and gifted life.
Everyone who visits us , happily wants to volunteer in KSHT. As, they feel the strange happiness too. We do not have to look for opputunities, they are everywhere. We just need to find it and make use of the opputunity to do seva in anyform.

Jai Guru Datta Appaji, Jai Mata…Your message today brings so much serenity…the splendor of nature, mingled with the most peaceful, healing music You play…couldn’t be more lovely! Recently You taught us that the purpose of life was serving others, and when we do this, we will be serving God as Lord Datta is in everything, and everyone that ever was or will be. If we could truly see You in all that is…we would live in the state of constant bliss, and all of the world would flow as serenely as Your music…daily Appaji, You share with us the secrets of life…You share with us the secrets of complete happiness and joy…may these secrets register in our brains, and in our hearts so that there would be no more time spent making and watching videos…only time spent merged with Guru…for this i pray…may i touch someone’s life today, as You touch ours daily…another coconut i place at Your Holy Lotus Feet today in hopes that today, Your message will sink in deeper…Sri Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta Appaji,
Thank you for the wonderful video and beautiful explanation about it from Puttuji.
Human Janma is after many births in different forms and only through Human birth we can get Moksha. Blessed are we to be born in the era when Pujya Guru Deva took Human form to protect his devotees.
We came into this world without anything, we will leave this world without anything… everything in between is just a drama of life.
I pray to Pujya Guru Deva to bless us with the attitude to help others always and add a meaning to our lives.

Jaya Guru Datta, after so many janmas to be born as human being is the most precious gift. Serving God will mean merging with the Self and who better than our beloved Sadgurudeva who shows us the path of leading the correct life. The last scence of droplets falling on leaves was so appealing which beautifully captured our beloved Sadguru’s powerful messages “Drops of Nectar”. Dear Puttuji, your interpretation and diction are so pleasing and amazing, it really makes us understand these messages so deeply. Thank you. SGD

    • on August 2, 2012 at 5:02 am

Very true Appaji!! The reason we are here is to serve God. Our past karma has been good and thats why we have taken human birth, considered to be the most intellectual being in the eco-chain. We have what is called “vichakshana” that makes us stand above all other living beings.

Appaji, you have taught us innumerable ways to serve God as much as we can. Whether it is Datta Seva or Ammavodi or Hanuman Sethu Bandha or Adopt a Bonsai plant. Yeah, I agree that we are all contributing our might to these projects, but, I do not somehow agree that we are still serving Him in the true sense. What then is service? As I see it, service is both intrinsic to myself and extrinsic to beings around me.
If I am leading a dharmic life, leaving behind ego, sharing my knowledge and trying to be peaceful and calm within, I am serving myself. In this state of mind and health, I know for a fact that I can contribute to beings external to me. I know for a fact that I am able to see fellow beings with the same respect that I think I deserve (Recollect your message, Do to others what others do unto you). I know am able to contribute to their peace and happiness just by spreading positive vibes that are within me (Charity begins at home, home here is ‘I’).
Extrinsic service, being able to take time out from my so called busy schedule, actively contributing time and energy for the well being of living creatures around me, is service. Whether, it is adopting a tree or attending to a sick animal, it is service. Such service oriented mind is limited to humans alone. So yes, this life is truly gifted to us so that we return this gift back in the best possible way. Thanks Appaji for letting my thoughts flow this easily, sometimes, I find answers and courage is my own words. Thanks also for making us realize this truth. JGD!!

    • Jagadish.N on August 2, 2012 at 6:07 am

    Jaya Guru Datta.
The MMS is explained so well by Puttuji. We don`t know whether we will get this gift again or not. But at present, we are all gifted. Pujya Sadgurudeva always says “Manava seva is Madhava seva”. We also know that God resides in every being. So service to fellow beings is service to God. Pujya Gurudeva is an example and has shown us the way, in serving humanity.
The scriptures say that God comes down to earth in the form of Guru. So this also implies that unconditional service to Guru, is also service to God.
I beg Pujya Gurudeva to bless us with an opportunity and the mindset, to serve HIM and humanity with unconditional love.
    Om Namo Hanumate Namaha…!

    • sridevi on August 2, 2012 at 6:35 am

Jai Guru Datta! Experiencing life as a gift is very unusual for a western point of view. And this idea itself makes life much more precious, delicate and beautiful. And using it for the service of God is not a common idea either. And only this opportunity makes life worthwhile to be lived. We are so lucky to be under the wings of our Sadguru who gives us the chance to serve Him in a more or less direct manner. And to experience the beauty and the bliss of serving. SGD

JGD-Appaji – Rakhi Pournami subhakankshalu – Yes, I believe that this life is gift of God and as said by Appaji in return we should try and help those people who really need help. I honestly believe that “Manava Seva is Madhava Seva” and we do whatever way we can and in our limits. Thank you for giving this life and it is our luck that we are living with Sadguru Deva – Appaji – JGD

When we really respect and honor lifehood in every of its expression, as humans, animals, plants, everything, then we automatically life a life of seva and caring, then also Moksha is not important, because its such natural then and a “side effect”, i feel. This service is a natural expression of LOVE, the One Love. Please bless us with the grace that we are always tuned into this consciousness and attitude. Pranams to your divine One lotus feet. What album is the Raga from, or what is the name? I really would like to look for it. JGD

These two things go hand in hand. By serving humanity selflessly, we become better humans which in turn inspires us to be better and better. I love this piec from alop of HH divine music. Amazing message….. As long as one has energy and capability to do work, one should use this energy to help others. Helping others gives us self satisfaction and happiness. Mother Teresa had been an wonderful example of this saying. May God bless us all with attitude to serve others.
