  1. Many of us hide from the enemy, because we are afraid of him.. allowing him to occupy our terrain. Skanda destroys evil.. in our gross or in our subtle world. Invoking him gives us confidence not just to find, but also win over the enemy. Like wise, many of don’t go for a health check, because we are afraid of what might come out of it. But if we have a caring doctor whom we trust, we are willing to get that scan done. Dhanvantari is the doctor of the Gods. He cures illnesses of the body and the mind. Considered an avatar of Vishnu, he is the God of Ayurveda and the master of Herbal Medicine.

Ah! What a nice garden we see in this MMS! The mind is a garden too. All kinds of thoughts flow in it. There are herbs and weeds.. herbs to be nourished, weeds to be removed. So, in this MMS, His Holiness wants that we learn to find our inner enemies.. the weeds within.

In today’s world people are busy finding and fighting enemies around them. Appaji seems to be laughing at such foolishness.. because the enemies around us are only a projection of the enemies inside of us (MMS 78). So, what is the point in treating the shoot of the plant, without treating its root?

MMS 68 declared – “A victory over our inner enemies is our real victory”. His Holiness did not stop with saying that. He has also detailed – who those enemies are.. wasteful talk (gossip), anger, desire, despondency, attachment, impatience, doubt, greed, fear, worldly love, pride of achievement and possession.. the list is long; and how to get rid of them.

It is human to enjoy a 2 minute MMS daily, and then get on with life as usual. That is not what these MMSs are for. They are the nectar of inner nourishment.. not just a few ounces of entertainment. So, having taken the water to the horse, His Holiness wants to know how much did the horse drink. For, learning goes beyond mere knowing. Knowing + Doing = Learning. Getting started in that direction means, you must “Learn to find your inner enemies”

Finding the weeds in the garden begins with scanning the garden.. similarly, finding our inner enemies means scanning our inner world. Appaji the ‘Gardener of the Mind’ has taught us how to scan our minds through silence, through meditation, through kriya yoga.. and more. His Music for Meditation & Healing as in the background of this MMS, helps to get the mind seated in contemplation. In that state of reflection, of focused awareness, the harmful, ugly weeds get noticed.

When someone important comes to our homes, how much effort we make to clean up the house because we love and respect the guest so much? Now, shift to the inner world. We all want Appaji to reside in our hearts and minds. That is our daily, eternal prayer. Let’s ask if our hearts & minds are clean and ready to receive Appaji when He chooses to walk in. For, when we are ready, He will come.. ( MMS 92 ). Shouldn’t we then begin finding all the garbage that we want to clean up? We must. Let’s do it, now. With humble pranams to His Holiness,

    Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji.

Our inner enemies make that life is difficult. One of mey enemies, which is often a problem for me, is to not trust enaugh. Swamiji is always with me, guide me and I hear His words. But all this can’t help me, when I don’t trust the words which I hear. I am sad, that it is so hard for me to trust. I must learn it!

    • Hema on September 2, 2012 at 10:29 am

I discussed this MMS with an enlightened senior devotee and this is what I learnt:

What are inner enemies? To me they are the feelings and qualities that keep us from experiencing our true spiritual nature. On a mundane level it could be the fears and that little voice that tells us we are not good enough. On both levels they hold us back from making progress. These inner enemies distort the way we view the world. We may see enemies and problems where none exist. We may spend great time and effort tying to fix these self made problems , but the real problem is inside us: our inner enemies. Self introspection is vital to uncover these inner enemies. When we find them we should observe calmly the nature of the enemy and how it affects us negatively. We should figure out to use these enemies for good. Meditation, prayer to Sadgurudeva, and calm positive, loving outlook can transform enemies into our friends.
Jaya Guru Datta. Om namo Hanumate namaha.

    Jaya Guru Hanuman,

This MMS hits at the crux of personality development. Finding the inner enemies takes us deep within ourselves wihtout which everything else will be like scratching the surface. I always feel a person has two faces – one inner and the other external. We always concentrate on external etiquette, beahaviour which is superficial and artificial. Only a sadguru can take us through the inner journey. We can fool others by being nice and sweet outside but we cannot fool God who is constantly watching our thoughts.

The MMS stresses on knowing and finding our inner enemies. Most of our lives pass away without knowing the thieves who are hidding within us. We do not even know when they attack, plunder our treasure (peace, knowledge) and go away. We are so much focussed on external world that we never have time to look inside.

This MMS stresses on our inner journey. As Swamiji says – ‘Let the truth be known that for your inner journey you have to walk alone’. Let us build a fortress with army and weapons provided by these MMS’es and with determination, courage (willingness to fight against inner enemies despite of failures) and enthusiasm (to overcome the unknown attacks that might come in our way) march forward in destroying our inner enemies.

I pray to Swamiji to give us strength, intellect and knowledge to destroy the inner enemies within us.

Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji who is Skanda.

    Om namo hanumate namaha

  4. JGD. These silent enemies seem to prevail whenever we forget or discard the injunctions of Sri Swamiji. Remembering His Holy form and chanting the Mantras and Names of God allows us to gain control over them. I pray to Compassionate Sadguru to remember and practice His Divine messages so that anger, lust, selfishness, greed, envy and the host of demons within do not manifest. Om Sri Skandaya Namah. Sri Guru Datta

Wonderful message…. The true culprit for committing faults and to have enemies are present within us. Our actions can hurt others, without realising this we tend to blame others for their reaction or will not excuse even a small fault by others. Finally find faults with others and feel they are hurting us and treat them as enemies, but are actually present by default in us. May my Guru help me to learn about my enemies and overcome them.

Jaya Guru Datta From knowing that there are hidden inner enemies, to experiencing their exposure by Datta Sadguru is not necessarily a comfortable process. The help of Sri Swamiji makes this process smoother. As the inner enemies surface, I find that I am asking the question, “How are these affecting my sadhana?” “to what depth do they exist?” Immediately I must pray to Appaji. The complexity is too huge for this small mind. I need help in continually exposing and eliminating so I can lead a life in freedom. Thank you Puttuji. SGD

This MMS is a reminder ” the enemies around us are the projections of the enemies inside us “, that means if we acuse, critise, insult someone, we ourself have this accusations inside us, we are this and not the other person, as he only shows us at which level we are , sometimes not easy to accept !! knowing + practice = learning, so we should be gratefull to the other person insteat of getting angry at him, because through him we can change. Om namo hanumate namaha.

In today’s MMS video Appaji is telling us to identify our inner enemies. In earlier MMS videos Appaji has told about various types of enemies. Pujya Guru Deva is step by step taking us towards self-realization through these 2 mins MMS videos.
Sri Swamiji has provided different ways through which we can internalize and find our inner enemies. Thank you Appaji for this wonderful video. I pray to pujya gurudeva to bless us with the knowledge to identify our inner enemies.

Jaya Guru Datta, I have to think strongly about Swamijis words:

    follow the master
    faith in god
    face the devil
    finish the game

“face the devil” – I know there are various inner enemies making it impossible to live my life completely pure and noble. BUT: with my own FAITH in the almighty I know I can face them and stop nourish them. So that, with Your help and grace, one day my enemies will be tired of me.

    • on September 2, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! These messages are tremendously helpful in allowing us to find those inner enemies. I have been running into quite a few. :} But You have also given us the antidote to to help. Datta Kriya Yoga, singing your bhajans, listening to Shata Shloki Ramayana, Chanting God’s names, doing good deeds, thinking about God, remembering Guru’s smile–so many little tools that become major weapons against dark thoughts when we take the time to use them. For me it helps when I have a negative thought about someone to see that person surrounded by light and love and with Swamiji. It isn’t long before those thoughts just go away… If there is a negative scenario playing out in my mind, I try to stop it by beginning to chant mantras given by Swamiji. All these things help so much and I am immensely grateful for the tools that Sri Swamiji has given us! Sri Guru Datta!

    • on September 2, 2012 at 4:23 pm

    Jaya Guru Datta!
In the struggle with our everyday life we find our inner enemies as well as due to inner perception. Every little stone we fall over tells us something about them. Through Sri Swamiji i learn step for step to decode these happenings and to understand them in a continuously growing context.
HE sets us in the right angle to look onto these happenings. In order to find the reason why we fell over the little stone, it is very interesting to look on our own motivation for the step we did. What did we want? Is there some fear? If we know all these reasons we can try to untangle thread for thread and liberate us from the causes which have made us fall over the little stone.

The structure of the inner enemies, as Puttuji points out, is very helpful, and there are some more .
Every time, when I feel uneasy in a situation, I can bet, there is an enemy “insulted”
inside me, it stands up and wants to fight.
Do I submit? No ! Hopefully not ! What am I to do?
Sometimes – not always – I pause – then I contemplate on the situation that brings mischief
    to my inner enemy,
(hopefully not all day long, because there are so many mischiefs and so many enemies …)
but after all, it makes me think. Good old brain is very helpful then.
In former times I did not have mercy with my enemies (and their enemies), but nowadays
I`m quite content to have a bit compassion, not feeling guilty any more.
This would be wasted energy in my view (another enemy).
And so the story goes on and on. But I try, and I feel blessed by Sri Swamiji !
Ps : The music of this video is so beautiful, it washes away all sins …
it cleans the mind and the soul, and the beautiful flowers, not to forget …
When I focus on them, all the weeds feel bored and worn out. i don`t pay attention to them.
    Jay Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta,
Inner enemies are more dangerous than outer enemies, yet we take it as granted and we also think that it is o.k in this competitive world. The first part which is finding out the inner enemies is easy but the second part… getting rid off them is the hardest. For this we have to surrender at the SADGURU’s feet.
Puttuji, your explanation is superb without which, we cann’t understand so easily.
May SADGURU bless us with enough strength and will to get rid off the inner enemies.
    Om Sri Sadgurubhyo Namaha!

It’s indeed a splendid message even as most others and Appaji has been taking pains to prepare us to grow upto His expectations. Let my mind be cleansed of its weed to see the light of ‘vivekam’ and see the essence and core meaning of every MMs I am trying to follow and responding to. Except the grace of Sadguru, none else in this world enable us to cross the mental barriers. Hence my repeated pranams to Appaji to lift me up and bless me to be tempered with the spirit of His ‘sandesh’ released by Puttuji on a daily basis. P.G.Krishna Murthy

“A victory over our inner enemies is real victory” says Appaji in earlier MMS. He even told us what are our inner enemies. Now, He is telling us to find those inner enemies. He is telling us that we need to introspect every day to find out what we have achieved. In this process, we are finding out “who I am”. As and when we find those inner enemies, we need to weed them out, means of this are also elucidated by Him. Just as the garden becomes all the more beautiful with flowers, without the weeds, we as individuals, will become all the more radiant and bright when we have conquered our inner enemies. Thank You Appaji. This is one of those corporate lesson as well, one of those lessons for personality development. What are you, really?? You are my BFF!!
Thank you Puttuji for your interpretation. JGD.

what a wonderful challenging advice. it is not so comfortable to face all the inner enemies, it is much easier to see them outside ourselves, projected in the world and on others. but being aware and made conscious more and more by the loving care of sri swamiji it is possible to use the outer mirror for detecting all those inner weeds and little black bugs hiding from our searching light in any corner inside that is still in darkness. I am so deeply grateful that our beloved swamiji again and again instils courage and fortitude for finding and fighting the inner enemies. when they are allowed to be active inside they cast so much shadow and dark clouds on our selves and prevent the reflection of the Divine light that our beloved sadguru is showering upon us always always always.
