  1. {Devotion : Submission. Ardent, selfless affection & dedication, as to a person or principle; An act of religious observance or prayer; Love} {Fear : A feeling of agitation & anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger. Disquiet. Apprehension} Where there’s devotion, there’s no fear.

Krishna is Dharmasamsthapaka (Establishes dharma). He is Durmatidwamsaka (Destroys evil mind). The Gopikas of Brindavan were so devoted, so immersed in His play, they had nothing to fear. Lord Narassimha appeared fearsome to all, but not to Prahlad. In His devotion, he knew no fear. So it was for Meera. Only Sinners are always in fear (MMS 159).

Mahalakshmi bestows all riches & fame on her devotees. And she can be tough with the evil, as she did with Mahishasur. Again, devotees have nothing to fear.

Pranams Gurudeva ! When in true devotion we see your divine smiling face, we must confess all our fears disappear. Please keep smiling ! Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji

  2. JGD.True devotion does not expect anything but surrendering to the Lord Almighty thro’ words and deeds, the results of the mind, the subtle body.Fear is a quality rising out of expectations, result of mental modifications. In the absence of expectations, that is due to true devotion,as said by Our APPAJI,fears vanish away from the saadaka. The true devotion is possible thro’ the Sadguru only,as everyone knows.SGD

JGD. Dear Appaji, When I saw this MMS i got wonderstruck. During my prayer yesterday, I was wondering your role in my life. I was imagining how life would be when YOU were not in my life. The devotion and belief which we have on you, exactly saying the faith and devotion which you cultivated in our mind transformed to a fearless life. Whatever life situation is, we think Appaji is there, lets do whatever I can, remaining he will take care. That kind of faith is the great support in ones life and that is the greatest blessing or boon one can have it.

The Gopikas were leading a simple life but they were so joyful with the presence of Lord Krishna in their life. One can’t get into falsehood of relating their external wealth/status with the devotion.

If there is no belief and devotion to GOD or Guru, however wealth and great social status you have, it can’t give you the happiness or joy.

If you have to conquer the faith and belief of so many human beings how great you should be.

I think, true devotion means also 100% trust in the Guru. Here I must learn still more and more. I have always some fears, because I for myself don’t see a way in my life. But it isn’t necessary to see the way, because at the moment, when I must make a decision, I know very good what is to do. Swamiji is showing me all, what I must know. Sometimes it needs a lot of patience and trust. I must still a lot!

Fear is always about losing something, is it not? Is it not rooted in attachment? Fear of losing wealth, health, beauty, relationships, reputation, a sane mind, fond possessions, a desired activity, and of course life? Yet all these are impermanent. Even the greatest souls have suffered losses. Rama, Nala Maharaja, and Yudhishthira lost their kingdoms and luxurious lifestyles. They and even Lord Krishna became subjects of criticism. They all have had to give up their physical bodies. What I would fear most is loss of devotion towards my Sadgurudeva. That I hold as most precious. I pray fervently that my faith and devotion ever increase and my faith get stronger. Jaya Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta,
Every year just before the rainy season, the people of Vrindavan made elaborate preparations to perform a yagna in honor of Indra, the god of rain. Krishna asked his father why not worship the cows who give milk. Or the river Yamuna whose waters are used for so many purposes?
These questions of Krishna raised doubts in the minds of these simple folk about their custom. Seeing the truth in Krishna’s words that year the people of Vrindavan worshipped their cows, there river Yamuna and Mt. Govardhan.
Indra, the god of rain, became very angry and decided to teach them a lesson. Rain came down in a continuous torrent. The sky turned black and fear came to the bravest of souls. The children and the animals were frozen with cold. It rained and rained. People feared they had incurred the wrath of the Rain God. They turned to Krishna for help.
Krishna asked everyone to come to the base of Mt. Govardhan. Having implicit faith in his powers, they obeyed instantly. Krishna lifted the great Mt. Govardhan and held it by the little finger of his left hand. He asked everyone to take shelter under it. For seven days and nights the rains did not stop.
Indra was puzzled. He could not see any dead body. He came to investigate on his white elephant along with Kamadhenu, the celestial cow. Seeing Krishna holding Mt. Govardhan he came to his senses. Ashamed of his arrogance, he realized his mistake. Indra bow down in front of Krishna, begged his pardon. His elephant poured the holy waters of Ganga on Krishna. Kamadhenu, the celestial cow whose one drop of milk could satisfy all the desires of humans showered Krishna with her milk. She was ecstatic because Krishna had saved the cows and calves from Indra’s wrath.
Indra stopped the rains at once. The sun shone brightly once more. It soon dried the soggy earth. The cowherds and Krishna returned to their houses which had been restored by Krishna’s maya.
I like this beautiful story from Krishnaleela. The people of Vrindavan were having so much faith in Krishna and overcame fear – that way Krishna was protecting them again and again.
    Sri Guru Datta

Today being Guruvayoor Ekadasi, Appaji has given a very apt MMS and that to in Malayalam language also. The famous Temple for lord Krishna is in Guruvayoor , Kerala. Moreover the melodies Bhajan on Lord Krishna is also very nice. Puttuji as you said, Appaji’s the smiling kindness face itself is enough to remove all our fear and lead to the path of devotion. Here I remember Appaji’s words saying that, He is always with the people who are purely in the devotional path. Where devotion is there, the fear if anything will automatically disappear. To develop the devotion , we have to follow Appaji’s words and teachings in the spiritual path. Once you are in His grip, there is no chance for any fear. Here I have got my own experience in 2001 in a perticular incident which I cannot forget in my life. I even remember here Appaji’s old Bhajan Ambha Bhavani sarade in Raga Shanmukapriya is especially for fear.Appaji’ is playing this in His healing music concert also. Thank you Appaji for giving such a wonderful MMS today. JGD.

    Jai Guru Datta,
true devotion is true love. Only what I truely love I am devoted at. I will norish what I love, take care of it carefully and give all my attention to it. Where there´s love, there´s trust, there is identification with the loved one. Like a child and mother. Or a devoted married couple. Or a Guru and disciple. How can there be any fear when there´s love? Maybe there can be anxiety if the beloved will come and pay attention or be friendly, but fear is the absence of love. Fear can only exist because love is denied. It has no substance of it´s own, it only exist because we denie our own nature wich is love and thus devotion.
May our devotion towards our beloved Sadguru grow steadily and beyond mesure.
    Sri Guru Datta.

Jgd. Truly said, in the bygone Era students of Gurukula were so devoted that stay in a Forest did not Deter them to learn.Devotion is learnt from young Age made them fearless of Samsara.
Kuchela is not afraid of his poverty, nor he asked riches from His Friend Krishna, Riches came unasked.
Humans also suffer from the poverty in Devotion, though we have Ganapathy.

Wow! Every concert on the 25th Anniversary tour has been amazing! This week at the Karya Siddhi Hanunman Temple, Sri Swamiji was talking about the pancha jnanendriyas and pancha karmendriyas. On two nights He mentioned this subject and instructed us to surrender our sense experiences to God. Tonight, at the beginning of the last Raga, He said it was about “how Krishna felt….” Suddenly, the hall of that small Allen, Texas high school became the battlefield of the Bhagavad Gita and one could hear the hooves of the horses thundering across the ground, one could feel Krishna’s power, strength, confidence and wisdom in the thunderous keys Sri Swamiji was playing….What better way to bring home His lesson on the senses then to “become” Krishna himself in the notes of this incredible raga–how could we be afraid when we are surrounded by such majesty!

jgd.Every day we require something different from what we have tasted yesterday.Once the Mind is given fresh Food of thought every day, it Demands for variety daily. His Holiness is Like KASIVISWANATHA(Lord Shiva in Kasi),He has with him GANGA SAMETHA ANNAPOORNA(Ganga and Annapoorna),Food and Water. like wise Appaji Feeds both bogy and Mind.
The True path Devotion no scope for Fear. This Holds Good for the students of Gurukula. Travelling Great distances leaving their near and dear these children live in Forests with their Guru to learn.
So living with Guru with Devotion Why fear.
Human fears Death more than anything. To ward off, to postpone he will do any thing.Guru does not stop the God of Death doing His duty, He teaches the devotee to be not afraid of it.JGD.

Jaya Guru Datta! In the last 6 weeks, because of a specific situation, I had fears about the future. On one side, I accepted and surrendered to what had happened, knowing that everything is good from the spiritual point of vue (being a lesson, a teaching or a reaction due to past deeds). But on the other side I was depressive and had fears about what might happen later. Arrogantly, I did not doubt about my devotion, I „only“ thought that I was lacking faith in life and not trusting enough.
One week ago, by Guru’s grace and with some energetical work through a therapist, something in me got released. Those fears simply disappeared. Already in the following days, I was blessed with unexpected positive events!!!
Now I realise that, in reality, my devotion was insufficient, an inner obstacle prevented me to be fully open for it. As soon as this obstacle was worked out, devotion could increase, and the fears vanished. Thanks to this beautiful MMS I have realised my mistake and learned a precious lesson.
May I be, from now on, constantly full of true devotion and not repeat this behaviour in any other difficult situation in the future. May we, all devotees, be full of true devotion!
With much much much gratitude, dear Appaji! SGD

Jaya Guru Datta! We’ve heard Sri Swamiji say many times in the past that one should be fearless. It’s clear from the message that as long as I have fear, it indicates a lack of complete devotion. If this world is a projection of the mind, then any fear that’s caused by the world around is born in our own minds. The fear of death is also unreal because the soul has no death. Reading, analyzing, recollecting and internalizing Sri Swamiji’s messages will help us understand His teachings. This combined with complete faith in our Sathguru and Sathguru alone will help us develop untainted devotion towards our Sathguru. This is so much easier said than done. Based on this message, I also realize that I could use fearlessness as one of the gauges as I continue to nurture my devotion towards Swamiji. None of this will be possible without the Sathguru’s grace. Obeisances to the Holy Lotus Feet!

  4. It is good to know that a Devotee must be afraid of nothing. He knows that our Sadguru has come to destroy all bad things. He helps us to find a good life-style (sattvic). He teaches us to have always trust in God. You are no more alone. Jaya Guru Datta

    • Joseph on November 26, 2012 at 7:45 am

Absolutely true…. When there is true devotion there is only trust and no doubts, so there can only be confidence but not fears. Fear within us is mainly due to combination of imagination of nonexisting pain causing factor to inturpt our life and disbelief in God that He always protects because He’s omnipotent. For example, the fear of snake makes us imagine even a small rope to be a snake, inspite of the knowledge that sake can rarely exist in a city or in a busy road, no logic works with fear. This is because of imagination. A true devotee can cross the fear of death, the biggest of all fears because of the faith in God that “He does the best for me and whatever i’m going through is the best possible and easy way He could bless for my good”. But this faith can persist only with His grace. So I pray my Jesus to bless all of us with true devotion, so that all of us can lead a life without any fear.

Only in the path of true devotion, all fears disappear – 24 Nov 2012

One with true devotion places complete trust in God. Such a person believes that he is not the doer and remains a witness to all the happens around him. He would usually not term anything as good or bad, but learns lessons from each experience. This person thus has no fear. He knows the God knows best and that happens is for good. There is nobody he gets. He only loves The Lord whole-heatedly with deep devotion and this devotion will get him thru the ocean of this Samsara (life). Let us pray with true devotion to Sadguru what dispels all fear and shows us the way to bliss. Jaya Guru Datta
