  1. Dear Mathruroopa Sathgurudeva!
You’re Ma Annapurna. You’re Ma Gnanapurna.
You fulfil (purna) our need for food (anna). From food, we derive energy to assimilate knowledge (gnana).
In a world which is not sure whether it lives to eat, or eats to live, you’ve made us realize that we eat to live, and the purpose of such living is to realize our true potential
We’ve learnt from you that, such realization has to be sought & experienced only through this body–mind–intellect equipment we are bestowed with
We know that the efficiency of a car engine is dependent on the quality of fuel it receives. We now know that the efficiency of our body-mind–intellect equipment depends on the quality of nourishment it receives
You’ve detailed here that such nourishment is best obtained when we take the right food, in the right quantity, in the right time. We’re grateful to you for such timely, holistic advise. We follow you to our wellness.
    Jaya Guru Datta. Your Puttuji

There are some, who always eat out, either by choice or from necessity. The food may be tasty, but it is not always fresh and healthy. The processed, fatty, sugary, stale food takes a toll on health in course of time. Some keep irregular hours for food, killing their appetite with stimulants like coffee and tea. The stomach acids increase and health gets spoiled. Some eat food that is way too hot and spicy, numbing the tongue to the extent that unless that level of spice is maintained, food is not palatable. Food that is natural, fresh fruits, and fresh vegetables freshly prepared, food that is prepared and served with love and a calm, pious state of mind, food that is low in fat, sugar, salt, and spice, all taken at regular hours in a moderate quantity is best for health, Swamiji is telling us. I hope we all follow the good advice and stay away from junk food, food derived from violence, too many desserts, stimulants, processed, chemically contaminated foods, and that we keep regular food timings. Bon appetit and praying for every one’s good health – Jaya Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta,
O Devi Annapurna! O Divine Mother!
Thou art my protector, listen to my prayer!
I heard that even Lord of the Universe stands
Before you seeking alms to maintain the world!
I offer thee my heart as a flower in thy worship,
    My body is made up of five elements of nature;
The water element of my body shall go to
Thy paradise only to wash your lotus feet
The fire element of my body shall go to
Thy abode to shine as a lamp near thy throne
The air element of my body shal become a fan
To wave cool breezes to thy gracious person
And to thy abode the ether element of my body
Shall carry the songs of praise on thy glory!
O Devi Annapurna! O Divine Mother!
Thou, bless me the food of divine bliss!
    (Prayer to Annapurna)
    Sri Guru Datta

According to me, by seeing today’s MMS 326 , we can realize how much Appaji is very particular about health conscious . Puttuji as you said here it is a fact that one should understand that , we eat to live. Here I remember Appaji’ words saying that we should always request God to give Health, knowledge and wealth. From this we must realize that with out health nothing can be done . That is why Appaji says to have a good health, we should have right food and that to to take in right time and sufficient quantity. If we keep good health , we know our potential , which means the strength of our body , mind and intellect . Therefore when we take good food our mind and intellect will become sharp and that will help us in our life and not only that it will help us to develop our spiritual knowledge also through the words and teachings of our Sadguru. That should be our aim and which is only eternal. Here recently I had my own experience when I visited the Ashram and Appaji told me to take sufficient quantity of food every day and see to keep perfect health. He further told me this will help me to give more energy which is needed to sing Bhajans. This is because at this age of 72 , iam still participating and singing Bhajans in our ashram regularly at Cochin. This give me a good power of energy which help me to my day to day life also. The Bhajan Annapurna and the photography are very apt for this MSG since our Appaji , Himself as Annapurni and the photography shows the quality of food which even we get from nature. Thank You Appaji to alert us and also reminding us about the importance of keeping good health. JGD.

Jaya Guru Datta! I remember Swamiji saying that the tongue is a sneaky one. It’s probably one of the hardest sense organs to restrain. So, eating right doesn’t come easy. My father always reminds me of the adage that all diseases are caused due to overeating and that moderation is important. I also recall Swamiji encouraging us to eat fresh, home cooked food in one of His discourses. Eating at irregular intervals, overeating or eating fast food are common place in today’s world. But, they definitely take a toll on our health in the long run. Thank You for this reminder, Swamiji. I used to hear the term “Annam Parabhramam” when I was growing up. But, now I understand that food which nourishes the body and helps in the journey of this soul needs to be the right kind, the right quantity and consumed at the right time. Obeisances at the Holy Lotus Feet!

Thank You for teaching us the importance of sattvic and timely food.
Tongue is a very tough sense to control..sometimes we do not eat much at all..sometimes we overreat..as Appaji says moderation is very important. Chanting Datta Stava before each meal truly helps in filling the food with positive energy.
