  1. Psychology tells us that our thinking is shaped up from the time we are in our mother’s womb. Like a tape recorder, our mind records all that happens around us.. and plays back in later life. In those formative years or even later, there is little we can do to influence what gets recorded inside.

So, some of us grow into a Prahlad.. some Ratnakara.. some Hiranyakashipu. Yet, the Lord who created us, shapes our inner personality to divinity. Narada shaped Prahlada & Ratnakara. Lord Narassimha shaped Hiranyakashipu. In this Kali Yuga, the agent of transformation is the Sathguru.

The Guru chips away our bad karma.. anger, greed, envy, desire, attachment.. one by one.. until what is left is just the divinity we were born with.

Million pranams Dear Gurudeva! We’re fortunate to come under your chisel. Every moment we live, we submit to your seva, as per your divine will. In that chiselling, we will discover our divinity. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta for this beautiful message this morning, Swamiji. It is very timely. Sometimes how the Guru treats us or the situations in which He puts us are very confusing. Just this morning, I was meditating on this idea and as always, I was reminded that the only answer to that confusion is surrender. When I don’t understand why something has happened, or why my Guru act as He does in some instances, then I just go to those lotus feet and surrender that confusion and ask to be guided to learn what I need to know and what I need to do. It works every time….we forget that when you baffle us or seemingly hurt us or scold us in some way that you are always working for our good. It takes time to see that sometimes, but it helps to surrender that pain and confusion and even sometimes anger at your feet. Much love….

I know, what I want in this life: go the best way possible which brings me near to God. when I suffer and know, that it is the most fast way, then I want suffer with joy. I have always experienced, that I must only suffer in a way, that I can handle it. Swamiji shows always ways out from the difficult situations. I am so happy about it. What I should do without my Guru?????????????

I scream, I cry and I throw a tantrum for every blow. Yet, upon reflection I find that every painful blow carried with it a priceless gift. Without the deliberate blows given by the Guru, I would not have shown any growth. Looking back, I clearly see that I have climbed a few steps. The view from here is definitely prettier. The air here is cleaner. The mind certainly feels clearer. Sure, there is a steep ascent that lies before me. I know that I have to heave and sigh and gasp for breath. If I stay still and do not move, in all compassion my Guru will perhaps use the whip on me again. I could perhaps avoid the blow by following his verbal instructions in the first place without delay. Trying itself is training I was told. The lessons are hard. But let me keep trying. Please give me the strength and perseverance, Sadgurudeva. Jaya Guru Datta

All my complaining stopped about all the blows dealt by destiny and guru when I saw the mighty 45′ Hanuman patiently enduring blows day after day willingly submitting Himself to the torture. No pain – no gain, I have begun to accept. Jaya Guru Datta

I first meet Swamiji in 1990 and for many years I could not understand the blows: sometime I felt hurt by them, other time when the blows were in the form of indifference from Him, I felt neglected and discouraged. After reading today most beautiful message I appreciate the blows of the past and look forward to many more in the future!

Jaya Guru Datta! Thank You for this message, Puttuji! This is such a touching message. God appears in the form of Sathguru to guide us and shape us so we can finally merge with the source we came from. The Sathguru, an epitome of patience, puts up with our wavering nature, our desires, our doubts, our problems and continues to work on us through various means only out of love for us. There is nothing we can do to help the Sathguru in any way. Despite that, the Sathguru relentlessly works on us, chisels and shapes us till we reach our destination. The Sathguru is so benevolent, He wants to take us with Him, He wants us to be like Him. He loves us like a mother and fends for us like a father. He is the sculptor of sculptors whose every stroke is perfect, who knows His stones, better than the stones know themselves. To, our mother, father, friend and sculptor, to our beloved Sathguru, I offer obeisances!

In your speech in Hyderabad, yesterday, you said, you lift us up, you push us forward and then help us walk by ourself. With our useless ego when we stumble, you hold us from behind and again push us up, and you repeat this everytime. You also said that everytime we bow to you, you remove our pain and bad karma. You are actually like an acid test that each of us have to go through. You sculpt, you chip us, you nurture, you mold, you beat, anything you deem is necessary is a blessing for us. So, Appaji, make us better souls so that we dissolve our karma and unite with “The One”. JGD SGD!! Pranams to my Sadguru, love you with each passing minute 🙂

Jai Guru Datta Appaji – Looking back at life, we always feel that we could have been more mature in some of our reactions/decisions in the past. If this realization dawned on us, it is ONLY due to Pujya Appaji’s Grace and Compassion – that initiates us into the ‘Unlearning process’ – where we start learning the righteous way of living through ‘unlearning’ of the bad habits/attitudes we pick up from the world. This chiseling/cleansing process can be quite difficult at times – involves harsh lessons/blows that teach us humility, surrender etc. and all theset expose us to a subtle state of peace that automatically dawns on us, as the inner enemies get vanquished.
Thank you Appaji for your compassion and patience in shaping us to discover/realize our true SELF.

    Tests for Disciple ~ 8 Oct 2012

In the effort to understand life and approach death meaningfully, vairagya (detachment) and abhyasa (practice) are the responsibility of the seeker. When these two are truly undertaken. another help follows. That help comes in the form of Guru`s grace. The tradition of Guru and disciple played a significant role in the preservation of dharma and passing of the scriptural and spiritual knowledge from Guru to disciple. Guru puts HIS disciple through so many tests only to make him perfect. These tests are done to break the relationship of HIS disciple with the body, mind and materials. We all have in us, the inner impurities like lust, greed, anger, ego etc. They are only obstructions in the disciple`s spiritual journey. These impurities can be removed only by a Sadguru. A true disciple is put through a series of tests until all the impurities are filtered and removed. After the filtration process, the eligible disciple is showered with divine spiritual knowledge.

Sadguru expects nothing in return from HIS disciple. HE carves out all the unwanted edges to make HIS disciple a perfect idol, worthy to be worshiped. When a disciple remains in the company of his Guru (satsang) he becomes mad for his Guru out of love. One can imagine how much love the Guru must be having for His disciple. The Guru thinks constantly of ‘how much and what all can I do for my disciple? The Guru develops detachment in the disciple’s mind and gives him knowledge and devotion. The Guru is very eager to make a disciple like HIM. When the disciple has intense desire to acquire a place at the holy feet of the Guru and it keeps on increasing, then the Guru gives him knowledge of self realization and merges him (disciple) with Self (Guru).

Pujya Gurudeva out of compassion and unconditional love for all of us, is training us to be perfect in our spiritual journey. I pray and beg Pujya Gurudeva to constantly chisel us and guide us to Self-Realization. Sri Sadgurave Namaha.

    • Joseph on October 10, 2012 at 10:04 am

Merits are achieved only after rigorous attempts and pain. Similarly, being an eligible disciple needs lots of patience to bear the blows. This message reminds me the story of Prahlada, devotee of lord Vishnu who had to undergo many tests and finally could go through them by just chanting the name of lord vishnu. But all of us are not so strong to bear such blows in life. Probably firm devotion and belief that God will take care like mother does for child is the only way to go through various difficult circumstances in life. May be Sri Swamiji is trying to convey the message that one should trust God, leave desires, serve the society and be in association of God by chanting His name, in various presentations as different messages, like mother serves the same green leafy vegetable in different preparations and expects the child to consume it in some form to child’s taste. Splendid messages indeed by Sri Swamiji and thank you Puttuji for sharing the most valuable Sri Swamiji’s messages.

    Jaya Guru Datta

Yet another great MMS video message.
During my initial interactions with devotees, i frequently used to listen devotees saying dattatreya tattva is not easy to understand and he puts through lots of tests. At that time i didn’t understand, but this MMS video reminds me those days. To make us come out of bad vices Pujya Guru deva makes us put in these bad situation, makes us realize and lifts us from there. Thank you Appaji for a great MMS message.

When we closely study Swamiji’s Life History, we will understand the painful chiseling that he has gone through. First it was his father, mother, aunt, and then Lord Ganapati, who kept shaping him until he became our Swamiji. The levels of tolerance and endurance that Swamiji has exhibited during that grueling course is simply incredible. He was subjected to unbearable mental agony with unresolved spiritual issues as he was being taught by his mother; he was subjected to unbearable physical agony through merciless punishments administered to him by his father and aunt; he was subjected to the most unimaginable emotional agony, being deprived completely of attention, love, and normal necessities of life; he was tormented with the temptation of an easy life of luxury and love when he had been entrusted with a challenging mission to fulfill; and when he became fully enlightened and empowered to help humanity, was plagued by a lack of material resources and loyalty from his followers. Like the celestial swan you have separated the milk from the water and have placed before us a very clear understanding of the purpose of Guru’s tests. Yes. We must strive to give up our attachment to our own opinions and beliefs as well, while following the commands of the Guru. Thank you Hamsa.

    Test for disciple ~ 8 Oct 2012

Namaste Puttuji, nice video with a Siva bhajan indicating Guru is Lord Siva Himself. Even a meticulously chosen stone receives severe blows before becoming a deity. If it is not chosen meticulously, stone cannot stand the blows and gets broken in the middle of the process of making a deity. Hence meticulous choosing is a must. Hence Guru does not accept disciple very easily. Only when He is satisfied with the strength of a disciple which is assessed by His tests, accepts disciple to lead him spiritually and elevate him to the state of His own Self. Sivaya Gurave Namah. Thank You Puttuji. Namaste.

    Tests for Disciple ~ 8 Oct 2012

Sri Swamiji had once said in a speech, a stone that suffers minimal blows is laid in areas surrounding a temple, one that suffers slightly more blows, becomes a foot step to the temple. A stone that suffers even more blows becomes a pillar inside the temple. The one stone that suffers maximum blows to take shape of a beautiful idol is what is worshiped by scores of devotees. We are these stones. We must surrender ourselves at the feet of the Sadguru and allow Him to sculpt us. When we have steadfast faith and devotion, the Sadguru takes special care to convert us to divinity. He sculpts us with immense care and love, until we shed it all – desires, anger, greed, attachment, ego, jealousy! When these 6 impurities are chiseled away by the perfect master, the result is a beautiful divine form! We are so fortunate that this Master Sculptor has taken us into His fold. Lets us forever remain His disciples and let Him mold us into whatever form He deems right! Sadgurunath Maharaj Ki Jai! Jaya Guru Datta
