Fear: An emotion induced by a perceived threat. Children are afraid of the dark. As they grow, they get over it. First time flyers are afraid during take-off. The next flight is no fear.. because there is no perceived threat. Children fear strangers, and hide behind their mothers. The same stranger walking in the next time is ‘uncle’.
Faith: Antidote to fear. In mother’s presence, children know no fear. That’s why they hide behind her. With faith in the surgeon, one willingly submits to his knife. To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one that does not have faith, no explanations are possible.
Absolute faith in God destroyed all fear for Prahlada. So it did for Meera. So it can do for us. Dear Ganapathi Gurudeva, When in your grace, we perceive no threat. You’re Dattatreya – Trinity personified. You’re the Agni that destroys our fears. We’ll follow you, our Master. Faith in God. Fight till the end. Finish the game. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji for this beautiful message this morning. The first thoughts that came to my mind as I read this were “Yes, this is true….so many times I have been in fearful situations and yet each time I put my faith in God and Guru and asked for help, help was there….” Our God/Guru is a loving God, a caring God who wants only the best for us….why do we fear? Fear comes from a sense of lack or limitation or exclusion, but God is limitless and we are always in the presence of God, who wants nothing more than to love us. In London, Sri Swamiji asked who loves more–the Guru or the devotee? And Swamiji assured us He loved us more than we could ever imagine…how can we fear when that is true?
Faiths are a strange thing. Some faithes are very strange, there is no logic. But they are here and come again and again. There was a time, I had so much fears, that the whole life was difficult, I was sick. Then I worked very intensiv with Swamiji, I tried to be connected always very strong. Like this I could go step by step till one day the fears went away. But from time to time the come back, but never so strong like then. At these times I trye very hard to faith and to be connected with Swamiji. It helps and I can do my work. But it needs a lot fo inner work. At these moments I feel that my faith is not big enaugh, I want learn more and more from it!
God and His Creation are one and the same. God is everywhere. He is everything and everyone. We are all a part of this Creation. We are all a part of God. God is inside us and outside us. He is us. He and we are inseparable. God is eternal and infinite. So are we. What comes and goes is only the perishable, impermanent body. Everything that is visible in creation comes and goes. Everything in nature is in a state of continual change, growth and evolution. Change is natural. Change is inevitable. Change is inescapable. Change is growth. Change is good. Change is nothing to be afraid of. God made this world. He runs it according to His plan. We have no control on what happens when to whom or what.
What is one most afraid of? Death of the body and death of one’s loved ones. This fear comes from ignorance; from the false thinking that we own our bodies and are afraid of losing them. Our false thinking makes us believe that our kith and kin are ours and we are afraid of losing them. We get attached to things and are afraid of losing them. We are afraid of pain. We fear the future. But what is the basis for our fear? Our false perception that things are lasting and that relationships are lasting. Nothing lasts in creation. Pain does not last, nor does pleasure. Time never stands still. It flows and with it flow all things in life continuously. Nothing ever remains the same. When God is everywhere and He is in us all the time and He is in total control, why do we need to fear anything? We do not know where we came from or where we are going. We do not know our beginnings or our endings. Our knowledge is miniscule. Our capacity is minimal. Nothing here is ours, not our body, not our mind, not any of our skills. What is there to lose then? It is our false assumption that we are owners that makes us fear loss and pain. If we realize that we own nothing, and we control nothing, there is nothing to fear and there is nothing to lose. This firm understanding will come to us only by the grace of Sadguru who alone can instill in us an unwavering and absolute faith in God.

In Neetimala Swamiji says – We cannot show the pain of our headache, we cannot show the love borne in our heart for our son/daughter but we lament we cannot see God.
A holy man once said – “Man has been endowed with two powers: faith and reasoning. What man lacks is how to employ these powers. Hence, man has full faith in worldly enjoyments and desire; he never questions them. But he questions and reasons about the existence of God or Ultimate Reality. This is the cause of all confusion and problems.’
Sri Adi Shankaracharya says – “Acceptance by firm judgment as true of what the scriptures and the guru instruct is called by sages shraddha [faith] by means of which the Reality is perceived.”
Let us approach Sri Swamiji with humility, devotion and submissiveness to develop Shraddha and dispel the fear within us.

Jaya Guru Datta! Thank You for today’s lesson, Puttuji! We’ve often heard Sathgurudeva talk about fear, that fear is death and that one should be fearless to make spiritual progress. Today’s lesson tells me that we should simply surrender to our Sathguru to get over that fear. Even the fear that our prayers or faith in Sathguru are inadequate should be overcome with more practice and faith. The Sathguru will constantly guide us if we are dedicated.
In the Aug 2012 issue of Bhaktimala, Sri Swamiji talks about fear. There are many kinds of fear, the foremost among which is the fear of death. Our identification with this body is what leads to that fear. Just as morning dies to give way to evening and today dies to give way to tomorrow, our youth dies to give way to old age, so also this body dies to give way to a new body. There is no birth without death. We are all alive today, because the soul cast off the old body for this one. It will take a lot of practice to accept and understand this easily. We need to always remember that we have nothing to lose ever. As long as we live in this world, everything around is as transient as this body. So, there is nothing to fear, really! Please bless me with the buddhi to always remember this, Sathgurudeva! May we all be blessed with unswerving faith in our Sathguru!
Gods in any religion are portrayed as offering protection – with the gesture that assures, “Have no fear.” Sadgurudeva is urging us all to have absolute faith that God will always protect, whatever may happen to us; injury, disease, loss of loved ones or reputation. Even death need not be feared because it is a part of the process of spiritual cleansing and growth in man’s evolution towards divinity. God comes down as Guru who, like Fire, purifies us through each of our worldly experiences. Dattatreya is Jyoti Rupa, Fire giving en’light’enment. Rajkumar Bharati’s melodious rendering of the Sanskrit verses with the depiction of Guru as Fire and Light, drives home the message very powerfully.
Faith in GOD is limitless since we have experienced this many times,when problems and danger is lurking and out of the blues APPAJI some how takes over the problem and finds a solution. This has happened many times to us. We should have absolute faith in our PARAMAGURU,

JGD Appaji. I have learnt this MMS in a hard way and now I know what absolute faith in God can do. Surrendering to His decisions is the only secret to build that faith. Dattatreya will never leave our side until we have passed all His tests and in that process learn to surrender. I know for sure Appaji that He has plans for everyone, but tests are always to be passed. Lots of learning yet. Please Appaji, always, guide me so that I surrender to you and let you drive my being. JGD>The Truth of All Times and Yugas.Faith is cure to all fears.This brings a small story to my mind.Once there was ascetic doing pennace near a river.In the evenings he used to preach people that gather.One he told the gathering “chant the name of Rama with total devotion you can cross that River.A lady who crosses the river frequently to sell firewood is also present in the gathering.She belived His words.One day the ascetic and the lady were at the river bank to cross it, and there was no boat on that day.The lady putting the firewood on her head chanting Rama nama srarts walking over the water.The bysatanders were awe struck, and look at the sanyasi, Sir how about you.The sanyasi chanting Rama nama starts crossing and sinks, as he has not believed himself.Absolute Faith Heals absolutly.
This saying really provides a measure for faith. I can say that I have complete faith in God, but what about when a situation arises that I experience some sense of fear? Where is my complete faith? Those moments, when presented, provide the opportunity to connect and let that fear be erased by that faith. Why fear when we have Sadgurudeva to protect. Today I was warned to ‘drive carefully’ from someone who would never ordinarily say that to me. Sure enough I almost got into 2 head on crashes due to to bad driving of the others. As I was listening to Appaji’s nectar voice praising lord Hanuman , I had no fear. I was able to react and avoid both accidents. I know my Appaji protected me. Now there is also a spate of violent crime in my otherwise peaceful neighborhood and I have no fear of that either. Absolute Total faith is very important in our life. Gurudeva’s incarnation is for taking the devotees across the world-ocean. Why Fear – Appaji is with us !! We will follow our Master !!

Our Sadguru’s use of the the word “absolute” is quite outstanding for me. Also Puttuji, in an earlier MMS, gave very beautiful examples of faith in day-to-day living. And then there is that word again…”fear”. If I am fearless enough to quote the Avadhoota Gita, Song of the Absolute, I think it says somewhere in there that “once there are two, there will be fear.” This has always resonated with me, I do not know why.
So for right now, this very second, dear Sadguruji, I hope I come close to having, at least, blind faith in You. Absolute fearless faith, though, is truly yet my goal and my mission. For in that second, which I know faithfully will come with Your highest Grace, is the second in which I have no fear ever again, and there is forevermore no two.

Absolute faith of Prahlada has lead to God revealing himself as Lord Narasimha. Total surrender of devotee to Omnipotent takes away all fear and make one confident and competent to face any crisis.

12 years ago upon Sadgurudeva’s command, I had set out alone to visit the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines. On the train to Rameshwaram, the co-passengers were shocked that I, a woman, was being allowed by my family to travel on a pilgrimage like this alone. I told them that I am never alone. God is always with me. They were pilgrims too. They laughed. I told them, at least now I speak the language, I have money, I know where I am going and with whom. I was not equipped with any of these resources, when as a helpless baby I traveled to come onto this unknown planet where I knew no one, all by myself with just God for company and I have survived and thrived. Faith is a marvellous feeling of trust in God that He’ll protect us in all circumstances, but practising absolute faith may be difficult. Absolute faith leads to complete surrender to God, but with present day scenario of lifestyle, is it possible to lead a fearless life!!!!! But all of us would love to have a fearless and happy life. Sri Swamiji is conveying His message that one should have absolute faith for a fearless and happy life, like a small baby is always happy without any fear because mother takes the entire responsibility of protecting the baby. We see and experience mother’s care and affection, but God is neither visible nor can be perceived by sense organs, He can only be believed and experienced! So it becomes little difficult to develop absolute faith in God with grief and disappointment as part of life. May Jesus bless all of us with a peaceful and happy life.

Namaste Puttuji. Beautiful video with wonderful bhajan. Starting mantra ‘Om Agnaye namah’ pictured Appaji as fire, doing fire worship. In Appaji’s life history, someone questioned ‘ While Agni Pooja, Appaji stands in fire. Is it not wrong to touch fire with feet?’ Appaji replied that Appaji becomes Agni and stands in it and do Agni Pooja. So it s not wrong. This explanation is very well pictured in the video. The quote ‘Absolute faith in God destroys all fear’ is good. In Guru Gita, Appaji says that Sadguru erases all fear of a disciple. Nicely pictured in the video – blessings of Ganapathy reaching a devotee. Adi Guru Dattatreya, name itself says He is the first and foremost Guru in the universe. Faith the basis of life. We go through varied kinds of experiences thoughout our lives, some make us happy, some make us sad, some that cause fear too. Our faith and trust in family and friends give us some moral support and courage to move on. But faith in God is what helps us get through the toughest phases of our life. This faith in God or in Sadguru, gives us hope and all the courage. When we believe that there is a Supreme Being who is watching over us, and who is the cause of everything in this world, it gives us solace to know we are in very safe hands and all that is happening, is only for good! When we have faith in Sadguru and do our duties sincerely, we have nothing to fear! No difficulty or problem seems big. In happiness, we will not be exhalted and in times of difficulty or sorrow, we would not be depressed. This faith in Sadguru brings in a sense of equanimity in life that helps us sail through smoothly. Having a Sadguru by our side is indeed our greatest strength! We have nothing to fear as long as we have belief in God and are true to our conscience! Jaya Guru Datta!
