July 25th : Anger is a foe. Forgiveness is a friend.

Very apt visuals and a perfectly relevant bhajan, engage one’s attention to reflect deeply on this message. The bhajan : Sakaladhara rupini tum – Oh Mother ! you are the foundation of everything. When we learn to see the Mother as the foundation of every thing, every feeling, every thought.. we cultivate equipoise – that state of mind where we treat success and failure, comfort and hurt.. just the same. A mind in equipoise has no room for anger. Anger drains our energy, leaves us with high blood pressure and faster heart beats. As if this pain we choose to inflict on ourselves is not enough, anger also hurts people around us. It spoils relationships. We must therefore keep off anger like we keep off our enemy or foe. The red animation for anger in the video is very apt!

When someone inflicts pain on us, we can choose to blame or forgive that person. If we choose blame, we respond with anger. We get agitated and feel bad. If we choose to forgive, we maintain our inner peace. A peaceful, happy mind is much more productive than an agitated mind. Forgiveness therefore is like a friend who always keeps us happy. The zuzu animation for forgiveness is very cute, and can make one forget his anger.

We pray to the divine Mother that she always makes us choose forgiveness. Let’s download the bhajan ‘Sakaladhara rupini’ from http://www.flipkart.com/sakaladhara/p/itmdb34tq8xxspha?pid=DGSDB34JDGJPPGVR&ref=edca4f9c-e8eb-4681-acfb-8dd84ef82705 . Let’s listen to this bhajan again and again, and experience the equipoise in our minds. Let’s always practice forgiveness. Let’s offer our pranams to His Holiness for having blessed us with such a wonderful message today!

    Jaya Guru Datta!
    Your Puttuji.

Wonderful message with melodious music and soothing colors background makes the mind calm automatically. Viewing these messages regualarly listening to the divine music of Sadgurudeva helps us to control our negative qualities for sure. Thanks to our beloved Appaji for HIS unconditional love and compassion. JGD

  1. Thank you Appaji. This video helped me overcome some anger I’ve been carrying that was no longer serving me. I’m a little scared I won’t have the good things it gave me now that it’s gone– but it will be interesting to find them without the anger. That seems like a more powerful way to sustain them.

  2. Jai Guru Datta
Appaji, it is a big challenge to understand that all things in our life will help us, even the bad things and pain but with YOUR help i will understand and follow the right part to Dahrma and lern to forgive, also me.

Very nice video with good animation . Animation made kids to watch again and again and so they heard message again and again to get the message stored in their Subconscious mind.
I have experienced the bad impact of instant anger in my life. With grace of our poojya sadguru I am able to control most of my anger. I will keep practice to control the same.
Anger breaks relationships and destroy humanity but forgiveness makes and bring peace in life’s.
Sri Swamiji’s music and his life story parayana is the best medicine to practice forgiveness and give-up anger.

Jaya Guru Datta Puttuji, Beautiful video and colour. Bajan in malayam is sweet to hear. Depiction of the divine mother who is personification of love, strength, knowledge and forgiveness is very apt. Mother inspite to giving all, expects nothing in return. As there is no expectation, no disappointment. As she loves her child unconditionally, she forgives and forgets the mistakes; lives her life giving. We will endeavour sincerely to bring and live these qualities in our daily life Appaji. Please bless us. Sree Guru Datta Puttuji. Lalitha

JGD. Anger is the most destructive emotion. In this state we loose completely our clarity and refinement of mind. If we react strongly with anger, it absolutely takes away our mental balance (samatvam). A mind without inner balance is a reacting mind and a reacting mind is a non-learning mind. A non-learning mind does not learn from the experiences of life.
Moreover, if we express our anger (even if we don’t express it, we already have performed an unvirtuous action as Appaji taught us two days before) it will be in the form of verbal or physical violence (ahimsa) and that itself is a violation of dharma. World peace starts with every individual. How can we expect a world of harmony if we can’t controll our individual emotions. Forgiveness shows the acceptance that nobody (including ourselves) is perfect. We should try to correct ourselves not the other human beings. May Appaji support us in that task. SGD

Appaji this is very true. A holy mind does not have room for any ill thoughts, including anger. Anger just changes our being and our energies that leads to ill feelings it also inflicts negative energies unto others willingly and unwillingly.
We must learn to let go and be open to positive energies on this path our Appaji teaches us to follow each and every day.
Thank you for this Appaji… Jaya Guru Datta

    • Niran on July 25, 2012 at 3:50 pm

Puttuji, we get angry because of our Ego. If we start to trim our ego down every day, we become less agitated, less opportunity to get angry. Consequently, we dont have to forgive but increase the giving. Appaji has thought us ways to reduce our ego and thereby our anger. May he continue to keep our mind in equipoise and encourage giving without expectation. jgd.

Jaya Guru Hanuman, Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji. There is always a beautiful co-relation between images in video and the message. I really loved the way the video started showing the universal mother with a gentle smile and mantra ‘Om Aim Hrim Sreem Sarvamatre Namaha’ followed by the wonderful message. We commit so many mistakes yet the universal mother does not get angry but forgives us and tries to elevate us. The mother is ‘Kripasindhum’ – ocean of compassion without reason. We should think of this and try to elevate ourselves whenever we get angry. This video reminded me of some beautiful sayings of Sri Swamiji and how he has been constantly guiding us in helping us overcome anger:

You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.

Anger is the wind which blows out the lamp of the mind.

If you patient in one moment of anger, you will escape hundred days of sorrow.

Anger makes you smaller, while forgiveness forces you to grow beyond what you were.

To forgive is the highest most beautiful form of love. In return you will receive untold peace and happiness.

Forgiveness is the oil of relationships.

He who forgives ends the quarrel.

    Om namo hanumate namaha

  4. Oh Mother Godess, you are none else but Sadguru Sachchidananda, in this divine incarnation you have truly blessed your children by showing us that anger is our worst enemy. I pray to Sri Mata to remember this truth. Om Sri Matre Namah.

pls help us to control our anger and give us the strength of forgiveness

    • Shruthi Jagadish on July 25, 2012 at 5:36 pm

Anger is foe – Normally, we tend to act impulsively in anger and hurt others by speech or action. Anger is an inner enemy that causes only harm and no good. In spite of being aware of this truth, we fail to curb anger. Sri Swamiji has reminded us of this deadly enemy thru this beautiful message. Forgiveness, on the other hand, is a saintly quality. We usually develop grudges against people who have hurt us or caused us any harm. But we hardly realize that this feeling harms us far more than the other person. When we forgive the other person, the calm that prevails is something to be experienced. It would probably even change the other person for good. When God forgives us for millions of the mistakes we commit each day and gives us another opportunity to correct ourselves, it is imperative that we learn to forgive others who have hurt us. That beautiful video, the usage of colors and animations clearly depict the message in the video. Like a mother (mother Goddess), let us all nurture the quality of forgiveness in ourselves. Jaya Guru Datta.

  5. JGD!! again an amazing video with very very useful message for all of us.I just personally experienced this last night when i was angry on someone who hurt me for no reason and my this anger took away my night sleep making me feel sore. And today when i decided i should ignore and forgive the person i regained my strength and felt happy myself. Thanks a lott for this wonderful message with apt music played at the background which makes us to grasp the moral promptly.Pranams to the Lotus Feet of Pujya Guru Deva!!

  6. Jai Guru Datta, this is absolutely true. Choosing to stay angry seems like an
easy choice but it corrodes your inside, while forgiveness does not come easily, it does have
Soothing effect. Thank you Swami Ji for always nudging us towards the right path.

    • Anand. T on July 25, 2012 at 6:40 pm

    Jaya Guru Datta!

ANGER IS A FOE. FORGIVENESS IS A FRIEND:
Let go of anger and pride. When we are bound by nothing, we go beyond sorrow. He who curbs his anger is the true man. We can overcome anger with gentleness. With generosity we can overcome meanness. We can overcome deceit with truth. Let us speak the truth, give whenever we can, never be angry, these three steps will lead us into the presence of the God.

The wise harm no one. They are masters of their mind and bodies, they go beyond sorrow. Those who seek perfection keep watch day and night till all desires vanish. The anger of the body, master it, the anger of the mouth, master its words, the anger of the mind, and master its thoughts. The wise have mastered their body, word, and mind, they are the true masters. Their anger comes out of their compassion. Our anger comes out of hate, jealousy, selfish, aggression, cruelty, depression etc. We must at all times cultivate inner composure, cultivate tranquil manner.

Let us forgive all, those who hurt us physically and mentally.
Humans—man and woman—must try to live with each other exercising tolerance, patience, and selflessness. By keeping pure thoughts, we keep out impure thoughts. One can ask in prayer that, one shall be able to assist others because through assisting others, one learns oneself, in teaching others, one learns oneself, in saving others, and one saves oneself. One has to give before one can receive, one has to give of oneself, give of one’s compassion, of one’s mercy. Until one is able to give of oneself, one is not able to receive from others. One cannot obtain mercy without first showing mercy. One cannot obtain understanding without first having given understanding to the problems of others. It is an old saying – “They blame you for being silent, they blame you when you talk too much and when you talk too little.” Whatever you do, they blame you. The world always finds a way to praise and a way to blame. It always has and it always will.

Return good for evil and fear no man, and fear no man’s deed, for in returning good for evil, and giving good at all times, we progress upwards and never downwards. To the pure, all things are pure, we must at all times cultivate inner composure, cultivate tranquil manner. The distilled essence of all that we learn upon Earth is that which makes us what we are going to be in the next life. The more good we can do to others, the more we gain ourselves. Those who forgives others, lessens theirs incarnations of lives on this earth.

For giving this opportunity to us, thank YOU “Datta Guru”! Thank YOU “Puttuji”!

    Sri Guru Datta!

Jaya Guru Dutta. The video is so powerful with the red and white images depicting foes and friends, I shudder to think how I will not have my foes live anywhere around me, but at the same time how I am letting anger live inside me. The video gives a clear graphical impact that makes me examine who are the other foes that I am happily allowing to stay as tenants inside me. This shall be my thought for the day and beyond today. Thanks Puttuji for the explanation of how pointless it is to be angry or hurt when everyone and everything is made of the same energy. But I think treating hurt and happiness with equipoise is the hardest part of my spiritual journey. I am working on it for sometime, but do not seem to progress much. I offer my deep prayers at my Sadguru’s feet and acknowledge that this message is packed with blessing and power to help me work through this phase. Humble Pranaams to Poojya Swamiji and Sri Balaswamiji. Sreevidya, NZ

Anger is really a foe. In my experience it hinders my connection to God. Sometimes the analysis where the anger is coming from helps to overcome it. Also the understanding why somebody is behaving like he is doing helps for forgiveness. But ultimately it is Sri Swamiji who is helping us to overcome our anger.

Guru Himself is forgiveness personified. He is giving out this advice, so we better follow.

This message brings to my mind this message from Appaji. “Treat every woman as your mother”. If we could treat the person who may have hurt us with same dignity and respect as we would to our mother, fangs of anger will surely not attack us. We may not be able to put this message into action very easily because of our ego, the insult and the pain we would have gone through, but, surely, if we can practice this mantra, Inner peace will surely be attained.

Also, it reminds me of one of my school assembly sessions. I went to a convent school and we were taught to read verses from Bible everyday in the assembly. One verse that remained with me even after close to 20 years have passed by is this “And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” This is so apt with my beloved Sadguru. He has forgiven me for all my wrongdoings, if He can forgive me, I surely can try my best to forgive anyone who has pained me. Appaji, Bless me with that good heart and mind to be able to forgive even my enemy.

The image of Mother goddess in the opening scene is beyond compare. She is so beautiful. The angry zuzu in red looks like he has been electrocuted by anger 🙂 Of course, that is what anger will do to all of us. The white zuzu brothers look so peaceful and cute. May be, no other bhajan could have endorsed this MMS any better. Re-instates that mother is omnipresent, all-knowing, ever loving and always forgiving.

    • on July 26, 2012 at 4:25 am

Appaji, it takes a lot of patience to inculcate this within ourselves. I am trying hard and I have been fairly successful. But, I still have a long way to go, because sometimes, I find myself surrendering to anger. Though your lessons hit my mind when am failing, some how, this anger takes better of me. Bless me Appaji with the strength to push away any thought that is anti to your teachings.

The moment your thought comes to my mind, I become peaceful instantly. I find myself very easily letting go of things and people that have caused me pain and hurt. It has done a lot of good to me, made me healthy in mind and in body. I pray to you to help me maintain this Inner Peace by practising forgiveness. JGD!

    – God Forgives (man); Man Forgets (God); God Still forgives (man);
Every individual wants to be foe-less and be remembered as Friend to all.

Parama Pujya Appaji, so beautifully, deciphers the key to this ideal thru’ this message for a human to become Godly. challenge. If Parama Pujya Appaji hadn’t been forgiving the subtle mistakes (knowingly or unknowingly) that we have been committing, thru’ His all pervading love, smile and compassionate blessings, we would have been at an inexplicable loss. In all humility, His is a life by Example.

The unfortunate part is that we claim to know this but still struggle to balance or replace anger with forgiveness.

    Prayers to Pujya Appaji!

  9. Jai Guru Datta Swamiji!
This musical message brings to my mind the popular phrase, “To err is human, to forgive divine.”
The “Mother” in the message reminds me that She is always loving unconditionally and always
forgives Her child. She is an example (as Swamiji is) of unconditional love. This is the nature of
    divine love.
As our relationship to the Guru deepens, we face the challenges of confronting “the human nature”.
It is not always easy, but with perseverance, we will succeed.

This MMs reminds me of a story: the souls were in heaven with their master, one soul said : master I want to learn forgiveness. – The master said : for this you have to go to earth. – Now the little soul is asking another soul to come with her on earth to teach her forgiveness, but noboby wanted to go to the planet earth. At least one soul said : ok, for your sake i will come to earth, but when i will hurt you, please don’t forget that i did it for you. – Complete forgiveness is not easy, but it is the only way to have peace. I hope to remember always this MMS. Prostrations to Appaji- Deva.

Thank you puttuji for the MMS video and superb explanation about it.
Before coming to Pujya Guru Deva, i used to get angry and irritated very often, but after being in association with Pujya Guru Deva, compassion has overtaken anger. Now, looking back i laugh at myself, how for small things we get angry and loose our mental balance.

No more anger! How often our Saguru stresses the importance of self-control! This is a main key to get constantly peace of mind, peace of heart! How much I hope, that my relapses will stop absolutely! With my pranams to Appaji`s lotus feet!

    Jai Guru Datta
Thank you Puttuji for this MMS and your elaborate comment. There is not much more to add.
In anger we don’t only hurt others and ourselves too, anger isolates us also, as shown in the cute picture, while forgiveness unites us not only with the other person, but also with our inner Being, in other words with the Almighty and brings us to inner peace.
Which great impact forgiveness can have, I could witness many times in the hospital, specially with dying patients. When it was possible for them to forgive deeply to people, they had been in conflict for might be long years… or felt hatred towards somebody…. the patients felt happy and at inner peace… as they had have bucked off a heavy burden, realizing only then, that this frozen or open conflict which once started with anger, had blocked so much of their energy. The felt peace and release helped them to open up more for new experiences, also for spirituality. Mostly they could let go of their body much easier afterwards.
War is nourished by greed, anger, hate… – seperative qualities – whereas forgiveness originates and results in peace, uniting – not only in mind, but also in the body. So it is obvious that how we act and react as individuals will have an important impact on the society – in far range influencing also peace and war.
The beautiful and happy tunes of the Bhajan “Sakaladhara rupini tum”, invoking lightness and happiness, will help us to chaise away rising anger and bring us to equipoise again.
Struggling in commenting this MMS, also this time I experience how we get much more of the abundance of these short messages.
Thank you Puttuji ! Jaya Guru Datta

    జయ గురు దత్త,అప్పాజీ !

  10. Thank you Swamiji for the MMS and the exhaustive comments. I have only to learn from your Blessings and Grace to shed the anger that inhibits my spiritual progress. Give me equanimity and poise not to get angry, not to show my anger to anybody, and keep doing divyanamasankeertana to root out this evil foe.

For very many ills, ANGER is the cause. Humility is the answer!. Association with Sadguru Deva is the medicine to control this and the other Arishadvargas. Every one of these messages from Pujya Sadguru Deva is a gem. All these truths are known to us already. There is really nothing new. But, when Pujya Appaji states the same, it has a lasting impact on us. It reinvigorates our commitment to follow these age-old truths. The video, Appaji’s bhajan in the background are further inspiring to an individual, to follow the dharmic principles. Jaya Ho Guru Datta.

Und wie schwer fällt es uns Menschen doch zu vergeben! Wie verfallen wir unserem Ärger immer wieder und nehmen die Chancen nicht wahr, in Frieden zu kommen.
Danke mein SADGURU für diese Worte.

Uncontrolled anger destroys every possible good thing around us, because we are not in our senses when we are angry and will for sure hurt others or commit sin, that could be avoided by calm and composed behaviour. Forgiveness is difficult to follow but will definitely bless us with friends. May lord bless us all with forgiveness for others mistakes, like we do for ours.
