Jaya Guru Datta. We learned that God comes to us as Guru to take us back to our source. Guru is the light that reveals our inner self to us. Guru is the light that shows us the Parabrahman. I recall a story Sri Swamiji narrated where the devotee chanted “Om Buffaloyay Namah” as instructed by the Guru. When Narada pooh-poohed this mantra, the Guru told the disciple that he was in a hurry when he gave the disciple the old mantra, but would now give him a new mantra instead. The faithful disciple said that he would chant the new one along with the old one, but not give up the old one given by the Guru. The disciple then began chanting Om Buffaloyay Narayanaya Namah and soon enough a buffalo appeared much to the surprise of sage Narada and the Guru. From the Guru emerged Lord Narayana.
