  1. In a world where the weak are exploited, Gurudeva is commanding us to protect them. Why? As we reflect on the visual of the lotus in the pond, we want to ask – Why not? Aren’t they expressions of divinity? Who says genius can’t rise from the weak?
As we sow, so we reap. We see that in action, when we fail to protect the weak. When we ignore the weak, deny them fairness, fail to care for them in a spirit of inclusiveness.. we know what all they can do to invite attention, and assert themselves. Why blame them?
Dear Gurudeva, You’ve taught us several ways to protect the weak. This Tuesday morning you are reminding us to share our food with the needy – We will. You created the Dollar a Day Plan – We will participate. You run several free medical camps.. We will sponsor & serve them. In living your mission, we will find our sense of fulfilment. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta for this beautiful message, Swamiji. “Protection from Harm…” somehow You put those words in my head many years ago, and I often here You saying them in different situations. It could be something as simple as righting a poor beetle who got overturned or moving a worm on the sidewalk in the sun trying to get the grass. But sometimes its more critical things like speaking up for someone who was wronged or giving someone something much needed…I am always grateful when You give me this reminder, even if its just a little thing like moving something out of the way so someone won’t trip. You give us hundreds of opportunities each day to do little things to provide “protection from harm…” and to help those weaker than ourselves.

Sometimes I need help, sometimes I give help. In my life it is both and I think, it is normal like this. In our society in Switzerland we have a good social system, I think, sometimes too good. There are also people who abuse it. So we must look very good when we want help. But all in all we have a very good system. It alows at most people to live a good life.

Even those ascetics who are self-sufficient and do not need the help of others and are engaged in solitary penance in a forest have the responsibility of feeding the hungry when they approach them,” explained Sri Bala Swamiji in the Ramayana discourse. If they fail in such a duty, the consequences not only in this lifetime, but in their future lives that they face, even in heaven, would be dire. It is the religion of humanity that the strong should help the weak. It is the responsibility of each individual to help those around him who need help. In a family of two, the spouses help and protect one another. In an extended family, the parents tend to the children and the siblings help each other. The elderly are tended to and cared for. In a further extension, the villagers or townsfolk help their neighbors who fall on bad times. The householder has the responsibility of supporting the weaker sections of society as and when a need arises. The leaders of society are responsible to see that the less fortunate are not abused, manipulated, or taken advantage of, or crushed. That is why there is law enforcement. We must never forget that each one of us is vulnerable to the vagaries of fate. We are not always self-sufficient. We cannot afford to be self-centered. We must never allow complacency to blind us to the possibility that one day we may be the ones who are begging for help from our neighbors and local officials. Let us all first earn the right to ask for help when needed, by first offering help to others unasked, while we are blessed by God to be able to be of service and lend a hand. Let us broaden our views and extend our arms to make our families larger day by day, to include the larger society, and eventually the entire Creation, as our Sadgurudeva Sri Swamiji has done. Rama was an emperor. Yet he walked the streets incognito at night, to learn of the troubles of his citizens and took care of them. Sri Swamiji never forgets the disabled and the disadvantaged in society, during his Birthday Celebrations. He makes it a point to recognize their needs and to serve them generously. Sadgurudeva, please bless us all with kind hearts that are always willing to give help selflessly. Jaya Guru Datta

Many times I wonder who takes care of a solitary insect that roams about and gets crushed. Who would carry word back to its kith and kin that it is in trouble and needs help? We live in families and in a society. If one is sick in the family, others help. If one gets injured, hospitals treat the patient. If one is getting abused, shelters offer refuge. Only as long as there is a genuine caring and sharing attitude, this system will work. Let us do our best to keep the system functioning well. Let us feed the hungry ones amidst us. Let us give company to the lonely and the elderly. Let us give the needed attention to our young ones. Let us not ignore the sick ones who are within our reach. We are not here to be served by society. We are our society. It is our duty to care for the others around us selflessly. Appaji is showing us the way in every action, word, and gesture of his. Jaya Guru Datta

    Dear Hanuman
It is to You i pray to help this America right now. Many of Your children have taken birth here. There are some forces trying to take control of this land and my prayer is that You guide these forces and take the wheel. Only You know what is best and You can see what we cannot see so i (we) put our faith in You. Let this land be protected by Your Light. Let a “great wind” blow out any force that may be trying to block that Light. We are Your children and we need Your protection.
    “Humbly we adore thee.”
    Jai Hanuman!
    Jai Jai Jai Guru Datta.

Jaya Guru Datta! Thank You for today’s lesson, Puttuji! The first mantra “Madhavaya Namaha” reminds of the adage “Manava Seve Madhava Seva” or Service to mankind is service to God. Pujya Sri Swamiji is teaching us that the primary purpose of society is protection of the weak – so we should use every opportunity to serve and help those in need. It is clear that leading a moral upright life alone is not enough, we should be able to lend a hand to those in need. Sri Swamiji is providing many avenues for us to contribute in any way we can to help the needy as noted by Puttuji. While we remember this message in also serving the community we live in, we should also keep in mind the messages from previous MMS and have no expectation of return or reward for our service. With the grace of Sathguru, may we all become living examples of Swamiji’s messages. Obeisances to the Holy Lotus Feet!

jgd Sri Swami ji often says “Manava seva is Madhava seva”, i remember a poem from my childhood ‘mere liye khadaa thaa dukhiyon ke dwaar par TU, mein baat johataa thaa TERI kisi chaman mein. Tu aah ban kisi ki mujhako pukaarataa thaa mein thaa TUJHEY bulaataa sangeet mein bhajan mein. (O! Lord YOU were standing in the form of a poor sick man in pain near the door of a hut, i could not recognize You and kept searching for YOU in gardens. YOU were calling me when YOU were in pain but i was busy calling for YOU by singing bhajans). The weaker section of society (may be because of poverty, poor health or lack of knowledge) must be taken care and protected by individuals, society and government).Swami Ji is doing all this by running schools, hospitals, music therapy, by arranging group marriages, medical camps, during natural calamities He sends money, food, clothes, medicines doctors and Seva Dal to help in the effected areas. Swami Ji You are incarnation of compassion to care for all thank You so much to teach us the best lessons onhn sgd

    1) In the course of supporting the weak Appaji, often i find myself to be overly judgmental about them. Is it good to be judgmental all the time and correct them? What is the point where i should draw the line and decide, “yes, it is time to stop worrying about them; they can handle themselves.”
    2) And is it correct to support in whatever good or bad they say until they gain confidence to speak properly; after which they themselves will realize whether what they do or say is right or wrong. I am sorry about too many questions Appaji. These are everlasting doubts of my mind. Please help. Jaya Guru Datta Puttuji..

Protecting the weak is our Dharma but how many of us really follow it? When it comes to criticizing somebody for a fault or to give a fillip to your ego, it is spontaneous. Swamiji through this MMS is providing us the much needed lesson that we protect the weak in this society, some of whom are lost, some of whom are deprived and some of whom are not aware of why they are in this universe. My koti pranams to the holy feet of our Swami Avadhoota.

Also in Germany we have to improve very much to protect the children from poor families. They still have much worse chances for a good school education. It is the purpose of society to support the weak. It is our duty as part of the society. Sri Swamiji shows us so many wonderful ways for protection and help.

I am not trying to be funny. But I am beginning to feel that somehow each day’s MMS message should be implemented in our actions at least on the day of the message to show that we have understood and absorbed its essence. Have I protected the weak today? My husband is weak in cooking skills. He sort of suffers when I am away. So I took the time today to prepare a bunch of food items for him to eat over the next couple of months that I will be away, so that he is not inconvenienced. All that he needs to do is to reach into the freezer and warm up his choices. I wonder if this counts as taking care of the weak. Bottom line is, I feel good that I did it and that while I was cooking I listened to Sri Guru Gita and Shatashloki Ramayana on Vimeo. Thank you Appaji for the inspiration. Jaya Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta,
who is the weak? Who needs protection? Not only the poor people, also plants and animals. Sri Swamiji sad He loves the bonsais, because the trees need protection. I pray to Lord Vishnu to give shelter to all the things who live in danger.
May I think of others and share. May I develop this quality by knowing there is a never ending source. May I have a big heart and care.
    Sri Guru Datta

  4. Jai Guru Datta, it is indeed our duty to protect the weak. We are greatful for daily messages which are nudging us towards the righteous path. May your grace be always upon us and we make ourselves worthy of your blessings

Pranamams to His Holiness Swamiji. Yes.It is our duty to protect the weak . IF all of us
are in the chariot, who is to pull the chariot? unless we protect the needy and hungry
and downtrodden, how can we be protected by the Universal CARETAKER? How can
we expect to be protected? How often I have wondered, now it has become my
daily routine, without Swamiji’s timely succor, would I continue to survive a midst
odds in the living world? Similarly help for the needy should be the mission of
    all God fearing people.

JGD. This MMS is proof positive that Swamiji is always with me. May I do as You command with the equipoise and steadiness of effort, that will make You happy with my little efforts. In Your most holy name I pray again and again. JGD.

This MMS made me think why is it that we fail to see everyone else just the way we want everyone else to see us?? Why do we fail to see that everyone is divine and equal? Is it that only money and assets differentiate us? Appaji has given us every possible means to serve the less fortunate. Are we all doing our share? I am nobody to comment on this, but society would be a paradise to live in if all of us contribute to the best of our abilities. Be it, towards elderly, towards less fortunate, or towards maknind at large. Bless us Appaji so that we become more capable to help others!! JGD!

Helping the weak and not privileged people is the noblest achievement of a society to me,
even if this is still a wish or intention.
This is my view and I hope, I realize this also as an individual and act accordingly.
My ego often has its own view in practice.
So, dear Datta, please bless my efforts, so that my compassion will grow more and more.

There are so many weak people around me everywhere and I myself also feel weak quite often.
Hope we can learn from each other in good exchange !

what a wonderful and solemn mms, and what an urgent message.
it deeply relieves my heart to see and hear it. in the last years one could get the impression that society, under the pressure of economic power, has become a self-service store for not for the needy but for the greedy.
we all have our weaknesses and we all need Divine protection. may we be able to see and accept where we are weak and be grateful for being protected by our beloved sadguru. may we realize His advices from day to day in the communities we live in and become responsible members of a caring worldwide society.

Society is highly structured system by humans to give place to all works and people. Strength or weakness is characterised by the physical and psychological possession of an individual or a group. For a prosperous society all groups have to support each other for peaceful and harmonious society. Protection of weak people or group has to be executed from rest of the society in form of financial support, care and protection of freedom. This is the reason for wild life protection, if unprotected the weak sect will perish in course of time. Be it animals, plants or group of humans, the weak have to be protected by the society. There are many endangered animal and bird species. For preparation of herbal drugs there is non availability of raw drugs due to endangered species with medicinal values. This is an amazing message to the entire society to protect and help each other who are in need to attain a prosperous and secured society.

Protection of the weak ~ 1 Oct 2012

Namaste Puttuji, thank You for video. Protection of the weak is must. But in this era, strong ego’s are strong and suppress others. This quote should be followed in every aspect at home or in society or protecting the rare species of plants or animals i.e in forest. Protection of dharma which is very weak at present is being very well re-established and protected by Appaji as a gift for the future. Grateful to Appaji. Protection of dharma is foremost with which every person righteously does his job in the protection of the weak. Namaste Puttuji.
