Like a master sculptor chips away bit by bit with his chisel to bring out the beautiful statue hidden in a stone, Appaji our divine master has been chipping away all the unwanted parts of our inner personality bit by bit.. two minutes at a time.. through these compact ‘packed in pepper’ MMS messages.
Today’s MMS sounds liberating with the bhajan “Dattāvadhūta svāmī kāvave, cittavimōha dhvansamu cēyave” sung by His Holiness in the background. { Avadootha – The ascetic who has renounced all worldly attachments and connections; Cittavimoha – confusion of the mind; Dhvamsamu ceyave – to destroy } What can be more liberating than destroying all the confusion in the mind ? And who other than Datta – The Avadootha can help us with that ?
We are meant to be an ocean of bliss as seen in the opening frames of this MMS. There are pollutants that do keep flowing into this ocean, from which we need to protect ourselves. So, this MMS invokes Abhayaprada – Lord Vishnu – The one who bestows safety ( abhaya ). This MMS is a clarion call for those who resort to worldly love, possessions and achievements for their safety.. in vain !
‘Worldly love’ stands for ‘desire’ (kamna).. The love of anyone and anything material, towards an end to self-gratification ( Eg: Ravana ). More money only asks for more and more money. More possessions ask for more and more possessions ( Eg: Mahabali ). MMS 36 declared ‘Grief grows from desire and attachment’. And MMS 93 of yesterday declared nothing can be more artificial than ‘pride of achievement’ because it is God’s Grace that accomplishes everything. Lets also recall MMS 58 that declared ‘Righteousness is truth’ (Rama destroyed Ravana. Vamana destroyed Mahabali).
Let’s stitch all these elements together into a prayer: “Oh Lord Datta! Please bestow safety by destroying the confusions in my mind, that are caused by worldly love and pride of achievements and possessions. I know these are false. When I know only your grace accomplishes everything, it is false to have pride of achievement. When I know only grief grows from desire and attachment, it is false to engage in worldly love and take pride in possessions. Lord Datta ! Am so thankful to you for visiting this earth in my lifetime, as my dear Appaji. Am so thankful to my Appaji for taking me into the warmth of His divine love ( prema ). My journey towards inner realization feels so safe in His care, because if I ever allow my mind to get confused, He will do ‘chittavimoha dwamsamu’ and put me back on track to spiritual progress”.

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji, this is a powerful message this morning, and one that can be painful to learn. Once a moment came in this life when that pain turned to joy when the realization dawned that for all of this life, no matter what happened, no matter who died, what changes came, the one constant was God who had always been with me and always was with me no matter where I was, no matter what I had done! This realization was Guru’s gift….It is Guru who is with us in each and every moment, less than a thought away….I love that the first mantra is reminding us to not be afraid…..indeed–God/Guru’s love is constant….
Just the last days I have experienced the difference between the worldly love and the cosmic love. The worldly love can make a lot of pains, but the cosmic love is sweet and stable. Nothing can destroy it. It flows and flows and gives good feelings. It is really a wonderful feeling!!!!!

We need the termination of our worldly acts more and more.
Grant us the forbearance to bear the results of our actions that bind us.
Enable us the association of the righteous people
Let us be inspired and immersed in Truth, Knowledge and Bliss.
Dattatreya is the first Sadguru. He took form because we all are Karma Jeevas (bound by the fruits of our own actions). We suffer due to our Karma and our own mistakes. The fruits of our actions take different forms and torment us. Family worries, family tree and the family snake keep one sleepless and awake out of fear. Attachment to name and fame causes one to be overzealous. All these are virtually the big seeds for delusion and disappointment.
A realized person is unaffected by such attachments as he has already attained supreme knowledge by his prolonged practice of the preaching of preceptor. Close association with such pious people, purifies the mind and bestows salvation. If due to misfortune, some impure thoughts emanate in a devotee’s mind, Datta corrects them and leads one in the path divine. Thus the divine protection always leads us to perfection. Datta moves about daily in several subtle forms to protect and guide his disciples everywhere. Hence surrender to Datta, who manifests in both the moving and the unmoving. Datta’s exclusive mission is to uplift his devotees.

Thank you for reminding us of the important lesson that desire for worldly benefits and the sense of personal accomplishment and recognition are paths to unhappiness and to our detriment. This is such a useful lesson to note in today’s world. Each SGS MMS strikes a chord with me and is very relevant to what I go through at that moment. The MMS are so soothing and reassuring.
Sadgurudeva’s divine voice singing Jai Guru Datta Sri Guru Datta………………… took me straight to Appaji !! I surrender and pray to Sadgurudeva to always remain in my heart and make me work hard towards goals without a sense of attachment and tamasic control. Great MMS video… the concept of Guru Shisya relationship is age old. Shisya(disciple) should always keep his vessel(mind) clean to Guru to bless him with spiritual knowledge. Scriptures says, Guru is more eager to bless disciple with spiritual knowledge then disciple himself, that is why Pujya Guru deva first cleanses us from inside(our mind), then imparts knowledge on us which is permanent. I pray to pujya gurudeva to bless us so that we keep our mind clean and be ready for Guru’s teachings.

When we have a chance to possess the creator Himself who is amongst us, running after these worldly possesions is foolish,…our real wealth is our Sadguru,…lets aim for Him!

I know for myself that I have been a recipient of His amazing grace. He has really trimmed my roughness and has made me a much better soul. How else will I explain this transformation, from an arrogant girl to a soft spoken woman?? All is HIS grace on me. Really, there is nothing that we can call our own. The education we have, the jobs we hold, the property we have acquired and the big brands as we see ourselves as are all His grace on us. He gives us all these and more and even takes away. Being able to see the highs and lows of life as equal is very important. And this too is His training. Praying to you Appaji, to give me the strength to see things the way you want me to see them.
