How often we indulge in talking about other’s personal lives ? The newspapers are full of them. We know that it is the same divinity that shines from within each one of us. Yet we like gossiping – treating other people with disrespect, often speaking maliciously about them particularly in their absence.

Stop gossiping – commands our Sathguru in this MMS. The zuzu animation in a lighter vein reiterates this command. Gurudeva’s melodious voice sings ‘Bhaskaram Sapthaswarudam’ ( Album : Bhajan Mala, CD 2 , Track 3 ). Bhaskara empowers (tejasam) this whole universe ( bhanu mandalam ) and that includes each one of us. Bhaskara energizes our speech (metaphorically taken as sapthaswarudam). It is only righteous that we choose our words with care when we talk about other people.

The ‘Statue of Liberty’ is a fitting sign-off to this MMS. The torch in the right hand symbolizes freedom, and the tablet in the left hand symbolizes responsibility. The seven rays that form a halo on the head evoke the sun, the seven seas, and the seven continents, representing other means, besides the torch, whereby Liberty enlightens the world. What a matching meaningful import with Gurudeva’s bhajan! The message – use your freedom of speech with responsibility. Stop gossiping.

To a serious student in our Sathguru’s School of Spirituality, there is no time for gossip. Such wasteful thought and wasteful action drain one’s energy, making him less productive, less effective. Further, those who indulge in gossip, inherently disrespect people who gossip about them. So gossip mongers lose credibility and are never successful. They are busy creating problems which they want their God or Guru to solve. They get tensed & feel negative. God says ‘Thathasthu’ – ‘So be it’ – (MMS 57) – and they get caught in that negative spiral. What a waste of a lifetime!

Thankful pranams at the lotus feet of our Gurudeva, for a timely warning. We will stop gossiping.
    Jaya Guru Datta.
    Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta, Appaji, for these wonderful words. Most of us are guilty of this at one time or another and have also been its victims. May all our words belong to God… Sri Guru Datta!

Jaya Guru Hanuman, Beautiful video with thought proviking message. The bhajan in Appaji’s voice is simply scintiallting. This message reminded me of a triple test I came across earlier. Whatever one speaks should pass the triple filter test:

    1. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell is true?
    2. Is what you are about to tell something good?
    3. Is what you want to tell going to be useful to others?

If we answer the above questions everytime we want to speak or communicate to others then we can make sure to avoid the gossip. Below are the loses we face beacuse of Gossiping:

    1. We are hurting others knowingly or unknowingly and thereby destroying our own merits
    2. We are wasting our precious time and thus become inefficient
    3. By talking ill of others we are accruing their mistakes
    4. We are spoiling the minds of others and we will incur the sin for this as well
    5. We are moving away from truth, God and Guru

All our actions, visible or invisible, are being observed by a Higher Power. As we criticize others in their back, indulge in cheap gossip and waste our time in meaningless pursuits, there is Someone who is listening and seeing. God knows. God understands. Nothing misses God’s attention.

Let us all pray to Swamiji and follow this MMS and avoid gossiping.

Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji who is ‘SatyaNarayana’

    Om namo hanumate namaha

  2. Puttuji, What is funny about gossipers is that they gossip and complain about others who gossip. Many times a gossiper fools the listener by beginning the conversation very earnestly as if sharing some very personal pain with an intimate friend that is trusted. By the time the listener’s attention and sympathy are captured, the narration disintegrates into venting grudges and complaints against various people who are all mutual acquaintances. It fills me with surprise to hear people who appear in public as best friends complaining against one another behind each others back. It at once rings alarm bells in my mind, “Beware! This person who is speaking to me as if in confidence now, is certainly going to speak ill about me to someone else, in the same intimate tone of voice!”
Puttuji, those of us who are under the tight umbrella of our Sadgurudeva are indeed blessed. He keeps us so busy with worthy projects that it leaves no time whatsoever to engage in gossip. Thank you for this wonderful video message and for your excellent elaboration of the saying. Jaya Guru Datta

JGD – Appaji as said we try not to think/do bad to others. Give us strength that we avoid gossipping about others – SGD

    • Y.S.Swarnaprabha (Lakshmi) on August 8, 2012 at 10:05 am

The beginning of the video is wonderful. Guru is light.
The round Ganapathi, the circular path taken by, Öm Agnaye Namah, Sri Appaji emerging from light & the golden fire emerging is all so real to watch. A wonderful illustration of Bhaskaraya, in full glory.
Sri Swamiji, teaches us the power of now & not carrying irrelevant things from the past or into the future. It is just like The Surya Deva, who shine everyday, not coloured by yesterday or today.
Sri Swamiji says, we must always be pious, pray, chant & sing naam sankirtana. He says such efforts give Him energy. On the other hand, if we do something, which is not right, it makes Him spend that energy. The silver light blinking as a chakra around Sri Swamiji, seems like Our weak blinking energies. We must pray to Lord Rama, to Jayalakshmi Mata, that we be good children of Sri Appaji.
The little zuzus & the boy throwing waste are very nice & teach us a lot.
O, Lord, prayers that my mind & heart be clean & pure, and be available only for You to stay.

We will remain away from gossiping.
Thankyou for showing us the light.
Refraining from gossip, ignites the fire in our minds & we are productive & therefore, spread Your goodness around.

    JGD.
    Om Namo Hanumate Namah.

    • Savitri on August 8, 2012 at 11:08 am

Swamiji is saying this always and I try really to talk only when it is important. But there are also situations, where I must talk with people without really knowing what I should talk with them. Then I must make “small talk” and I don’t like it. That I don’t must make small talk, I don’t go to parties and on places, where I should do it, I feel very bad with small talk. I am happy to have good people round of me with whoom I can only talk, when it make sense.

    Om Agnayee Namaha.
    Om Bhaskaraya Namaha.

Today I was fortunate to do an early prayer and the sunrise was just starting. I saw the raising of the sun behind the trees from my apartment and I immediately played the song ‘Bhaskaram Sapthashvarudam’ from my MP3 player. It was a nice surprise to listen to the same song again in today’s message.

Today’s message is very apt and useful message. Gossiping happens everywhere and mostly at place of work. As rightly said it almost drains out the positive energy and creates a very bad working environment.

Thanks to Sri Swamiji for blessing us with such a nice message. we will try to implement this in my daily routine and avoid getting into unnecessary discussions.

Pranams to the Lotus feet of Sadguru Deva.

    Jaya Guru Datta.
When 1st time I heard this bhajan , I was feeling like sitting in Planetarium and experiencing the Sun and his energy.
very nice animation explaining the MMS .
Gossiping is very intelligent and strong bad nature.
Without we realize we fall in gossiping and once in very difficult to come out 🙂
I feel Gossiping property is like Padmavyuham . Only entry no exit unless sadguru deva’s blessings and teachings are with us.

    Sri Guru Datta.

Absolutely true….. There is no benefit with gossips, it’s mere waste of precious time, energy and imbibes negative thoughts into us. The song ‘Bhaskaram Sapthaswarudam’ is one of the unique compositions of Sri Swamiji on Sun God about unbiased duty by spreading the rays on everyone equally. Amazing MMS to be followed by all of us.

    • Venkat Pydimarr on August 8, 2012 at 1:39 pm

Jaya Guru Datta – Gossipping – will not take us anywhere. It is a very well known simple fact – yet a lot indulged in and most forgotten. Sri Swamiji is warning everyone that the news people gossip about is not hot at all. True – news is hot only for the first moment, later it becomes stale. In addition to the commandment of ‘dont gossip’ – Appaji has put the essence of the sookti in a very catchy phrase and a powerful metaphor.
The bhajan is so appropriate for the sookti in a way that however much we gossip, the Sun Lord is rising in the east only – it is an instruction that as the Sun Lord, we should worry more about our duties, responsbilities and the quest for the ultimate knowledge – but not indulge in unnecessary acts like gossipping.
Thanks a lot Appaji for a very great message.

    Om Agnaye Namah
    Wow.

    Wow.
Yes, it is often talked about what who when has done … everything is already decrepit and past karma. Why repeat it again, nor to thats of others.
Worth talking to do about it are only outstanding, good deeds, in the spirit of the Dharma, such as deeds of Rama in the Ramayana.
Silence instead of babble increasing the awareness and concentration of the essential and life in the present and … exempt (great shot of the Statue of Liberty). The music also increases (for me) the radiation of inner joy of life.
Thanks to our beloved Master Sri Swamiji, who is a living example of this for us and beyond very much more always and everywhere in perfection.
    Om Baskaraya Namah

We learned long ago about the effects of gossip and through Sri Swamiji’s guidance it requires constant vigilance. Gossip manifests in many subtle ways. That is way it is always better to remain silent. I have always loved this song. The silkiness in the style of music and rhythm reminds that nothing stops this all pervading source of light. Thank you Puttuji for your wonderful comments. JGD

Jaya Guru Datta! Thank you for today’s lesson, Puttuji! I’m reminded of the adage that goes something like “Small minds discuss people, big minds discuss events, the best minds discuss ideas”.

My mother always told me that if someone was talking ill of another, I should tell the talker I wasn’t interested in that discussion or simply distance myself from it. Based on Puttuji’s commentary, it’s clear that if we can’t say whatever it is that’s on our mind in the presence of who it is we are talking about, then, we should refrain from saying it.

From the spiritual standpoint, as Puttuji notes, everyone is a part of the same all-pervading divinity. So, in that respect, we are all one big family, part of Appaji’s family! We definitely want to be serious students in Appaji’s school of spirituality. So, we will have to keep practicing all these lessons everyday!

Bhajan Mala was one of the first bhajan albums I listened to and the power in Appaji’s voice is striking! Great visuals as always and beautiful commentary! Thank You for the messages, Appaji!

    • on August 10, 2012 at 1:24 pm

Jai Guru Datta, Appaji. Appaji posted a saying in Facebook, “if you take the “ME” out, it is liberation”. If we start taking the “ME” out it will stop gossiping also. In many ways, when we gossip, it is the “ME” (ego) that is asserting its superiority over someone else, or it is the “ME” that is being curious to know what is happening in someone else’s life. Thank you, Appaji for enlighteing us through different means and through different ways of stating these truths. I remember, a few years go, Appaji asking all devotees to reduce watching TV, as it is propagating more gossip, innuendo, and more horror stories than positive news. My prayers to You to help us stick to Your Lotus Feet, and not go to the million distractions that are readily available all around us. Sri Guru Datta.

    • Sarumati on August 16, 2012 at 3:28 am

    Sarumati
    Jai Guru Datta,
gossip is a very dangerous thing. It often starts so harmlessly, we say something positive
about a fellow being, then – in a further instance – we remember something negative about
the same person (of course, nobody is perfect…).
And then the “domino” effect begins. The other person who we are speaking to, also
remembers something naughty – and – all of a sudden – atmosphere has changed.
It all goes so quickly. And we feel so safe , we must not justify or proove our opinion,
we must not enter into an inconvenient discussion with the third person, because it is not there.
This makes us feel comfortable, especially if we are not able to express ourselves openly.
So, I think we have to develop courage to approach those who we are not on good terms with.
Why not tell them our “truth” directly? Perhaps we will realize that the other one has another
“truth”. That would be interesting to know about.
And after all, everybody changes in every second of life, isn`t it so?
So, the newspaper of yesterday is the rubbish of today. We should never forget, this video
reminds us in such a cheerful way !
And everyone has a right and chance to develop for good, that`s how I feel.

Ps: Does this perception help me? Only if I try again and again to fight my own enemies.
    Dear Datta, please help …

    2. Ps: I know You help … THANK YOU !
