    Small beginnings :

The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that we are not going to stay where we are.. motivation is what gets us started and habit is what keeps us going.. after all every new beginning comes from another beginning’s end.. if we remember and feel sadguru’s presence around us all the times, each moment will seem auspicious to make a beginning or continue what we began doing

Jaya Guru Datta, Appaji, I have been thinking about this message today and how people are so interested in manifesting their dreams here in the US. This is such good advice. When we do something small each day to reach our goals, even if it’s just to pray what the next step should be, those little actions all add up. Om Namo Hanumate Namaha!

    Jaya Guru Datta,

Small beginning was initial steps towards MY MOTHER, FATHER and GURU. Now when I turn back to past with this wonderful message, I was amazed with the things that shaped me for what I am today.

My humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri APPAJI for constantly working to show us different paths depending on each individual.

What a great saying Appaji. The inner meaning you gave us is applicable to be followed in both Devotional and daily life. The back ground video also saying though the journey of river starts at tiny point it reaches a big sea and merges into it. The Bhajan “Jaya Jaya Vani” adds more value to this video. Thanks you very much

If we take small steps to spirituality eventually we can take bigger ones and reach our destination. Our precious glorious Sadguru has shown us many beneficial small steps such as listening to Shata shloki Ramayana, chanting Om namo Hanumate namaha and the share you food program. Everyday we get a message which we can follow and so take another small step. Sadguru is holding our hands and walking with us. If we let him, he will take us to the great ending. Jaya Guru Datta.

  1. Sadguru appears to be offering sound to the ocean. Raga to Sagara. Om Kara symbols seem to merge with our Nada Bramha. From small beginnings in Mekedatu to the international Datta Empire. I prostrate to my lord. JGD

    Jaya Guru Datta Appaji,

Very true, ‘little drops of water will make a big ocean’. Our Datta family is also the example for this. I feel that previous day’s message is the link for this message, if we start doing helping others in small, tommorow it will have great ending. Thanks Appaji. I enjoyed the back ground music very much, its one of my favourite bhajans.

How it is possible only through Nada Presentation. And that is possible only by Nada Brahmam Sadguru Deva Pranams Sadguru Deva and there are many by way of Bajan, Yoga in the same line. Jaya guru datta…
Thank you Appaji for the great video.
You have been an example and the life history of His Holiness Parama Pujya Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji gives many examples of the message that was conveyed in this video.
There were many examples in History where some great leaders/statesman had a very small begininings. For us, this message re-iterates the need to be simple and take baby steps.. Like a river which starts very small merging or ending up in a mighty ocean, may be flow on the path you had laid out..

    Jaya Guru Datta Appaji,

Thank you for teaching this important lesson in our life, through this MMS video. A small effort from our side in the beginning can have miracles at the end…. a seed sown and watered in the beginning can grow into a huge tree and gives flowers and fruits.
Sri Swamiji always says, if you put one step towards me, i will put 10 steps towards you.
A sincere small effort in the beginning to reach Sadguru has bought us all here where we are always protected under his comic energy… how lucky and blessed are we 🙂

    Sri Guru Datta

Every day i thought of to start implementing my plans in a small way…..but i fall in my routine daily life and the day ends without any result….This is a wakeup message especially for me from sadgurudev

Danke Appaji, JGD

The beginning of Findhorn Foundation Community in Scottland was very small. Eileen Caddy (one of the founders) moved in a period of unemployment with her family to a holiday caravan in a trailer park. She used to be busy all day with bringing up five children under difficult conditions. But she continued her spiritual practice at night – sitting in the little tiny toilett in the caravan practicing meditation. She said I heard the voice of god: “be still and know that I am god”.

Dear Puttuji – Jai Guru Datta!
Just hearing these words in a superficial manner, it seems obvious that a small beginning CAN lead to a great outcome. When I let sink Your picture in me, I feel multifold meanings in this MMS. Your immense warm love, total awareness and responsibility… for what You hold in Your hands. It gives me also the feeling that the differentiation “small” and “great” ( handful water , You standing in the Ganga) – if viewed from their inner quantity – is relative. In this pic amongst others it is shown how engaged love for that which will be started, aware concentration , in enthusiasm expanding limitations, combined with discipline and endurance can lead even a small beginning to a great result. – At the same time peaceful faith in what is growing, letting it grow in it’s own flow (river), but caring for it with awareness…
On the other hand this picture also lets me feel Your limitless love and care in which You hold us in Your hands, helping us most patiently to grow in our individual manner, showing us the light (in pic water exposed to the sunlight, communicating with the sun, God…), uplifting us to Your abode, until in far future we merge in You, unite with the “big water” like the drop in the ocean (last pic).
The beautiful soft melodious bhajan “Jaya Jaya Vani Sarasvati” emphasizes and leads us to the surrender to Your protecting guidance.
Thank you very much for this inspiring MMS ! Jaya Guru Datta

small beginnings(the raindrops)come from the Big Ocean and eventually return there in a grander style via creeks and rivers……there is a saying Larger than Life! With Swamiji we can all live larger than Life with big happy smiles on our faces looking toward the sun and to Him of course, and his sayings and listening to his music, music that lifts us out of our imagined limitations and sorrows. These short clippings may be his greatest gift to us thus far..they are so uplifting and to the point of everyday problems one may be experiencing…We look at the Grand ocean as Separate from the small droplets of rain at the peak of the mountain..But that is the illusion . It is all One in the grander scheme of things. And Swamiji is guiding us to realize that and beckons us to enter the grand flow! Love THAT Swamiji! JGD

Dear Appaji, today`s message reminds me of the saying: a journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step. – at the beginning the steps can seem very small, but one after the other they can lead to something wonderful at the end of the journey. And even one single step can have great effects, perhaps invisible, but for everything that exists it can be very important. So we should be aware of every single thought and every moment, appreciate every small beginning in meditation or something else, because they can have great endings.
    Thank you! Jaya Guru Datta!

My Father taught me Yoga breathing exercises as I was 8 years old. He had bought a book about Yoga and tried a little him self, but lost interest. The small knowledge he gave me in this regard (he gave me lots of knowledge in other regards) was the first little seed, that later guided me to Swamiji. In deed a small beginning, with a great ending.

Appaji’s saying shows me, that the fact to begin is important, sometimes it is difficult for me to start, but once started it goes allmost by itself. The sayings of Appaji is a very lovely reminder of the purpose and sense of life. Merci, JGD.

    • on July 20, 2012 at 6:51 pm

Jaya Guru Datta, Appaji. Many times we don’t appreciate the small beginnings, but rather try to make a big leap at once to a bigger goal. On the other hand, I just recall my first time at ashrama when it felt sooo long to chant ‘Om Sri Dattaya namah’ for 108 times for the first time in my life or to simply sit on the temple floor for the short length of Sri Chakra puja. Now, slowly, through your grace, I am improving from this small beginning to do sadhana with greater ease for longer time and with higher intensity. Thank you for supporting and guiding me step by step in my sadhana. Sri Guru Datta!

Jaya Guru Hanuman, Thank you Swamiji for the beautiful message….Amazing co-relation between the message and video. In the beginning we see a small river originating in mountains, flowing through valleys and towards the end merging in the sea….Every great ending has a small beginning…..The qualities we need to have after a small beginning can be understood from the flow of river in reaching its goal (sea)….we need to move forward with enthusiasm, strength channeling our own path, having faith in ourself, letting go of all disappointments/ridicules……..Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji

the most striking and radiant model for me is sri swamijis ashrama. when I read the life history for the first time some years ago I marvelled at the beginnings of our beloved sadguru’s mysore ashrama and how out of nearly nothing (a piece of land full of ants and snakes, a little hut and trees) sri swamiji developed datta peetham to a world wide multinational movement and organisation. I learned from this that even the Divine work on this planet starts with «small» beginnings and this always encouraged me to just begin any task with whatever is at hand. By His grace it will follow its organic growth. every tree how mighty it will become is at first a seed.

  10. My spiritual path started with litlle knowlegde and along the way my knowledge and experience and understanding have still been growing. In 2001 You came into my life. You are my greatest gift ever. I am like a small river flowing into the ocean of infinite joy. Thank You for Your help and guidance.

  11. By Gurudevas Grace I have made small beginnings to read the scriptures like Datta Darshanam and doing parayanams on Swamiji’s autobiography. I definitely see myself being educated and taken to a higher spiritual pursuit by Swamiji’s Grace. Thus small steps that I take with HIS inititation, will take me to great heights.
