  1. In winter, days get shorter & nights get longer. The chill wind threatens to rob the tree off its moisture through its leaves. So trees shed their leaves, conserving their moisture in their trunk. The leaves that fall off on the ground below serve to insulate the root & offer much needed nutrition. Such backup methods don’t sustain for too long. As the Sun God – Ravi returns well in time, the trees have their leaves back & photosynthesis begins again.

    Pranams Annadaana Prabhu!

You know we can’t withstand hunger the way trees can. You’re Ravi – Sun God, ensuring we’re always well fed & energetic. Wherever you are, Ma Annapoorana goes with you. You feed all forms of hunger.. bhojan for the body & bhajan for the mind are abundant in your grace. And your love is food for the soul.

As your sincere disciples, we’ll serve your cause by not letting anyone go hungry in our presence. We pray you grow that capacity in us, day after day. Jaya Guru Datta. Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! We hunger for so many different thing beyond food–love, security, attention, knowledge–some appetites are good, some are dangerous. Our senses have their own appetites and we can feed them in so many ways. Help us to discern what is good food for ourselves and what is good food to share. Help us discern what not to eat on all levels–physical, mental and spiritual…Sri Guru Datta!

jgd Annapurneshwari Mata You feed every one. Let us also share what we are blessed with. This sharing must be practiced with love and affection without boasting because ‘Dene wala aur hei devata hei din rein (the real giver is some one else who is giving day and night;always) ‘. Thank You Swami Ji for teaching small but important values onhn sgd

Jai Guru Datta Appaji – Yet another MMS masterpiece urging us not only to feed the hungry and the destitutes to sustain their bodies, but also give them Love and Help in order to nourish their impoverished souls. You want us to nourish their Body, Mind and Spirit in a wholesome way!

The whole episode of Eating food is equal to performing Homa – where the Satvic Food is offered as the sacred Offering to the Jatara-Agni (The Fire/Hunger in the Stomach). Krishna explains this in Bhagavad Gita via the wonderful Shloka: ‘Brahmarpanam Brahma Havir…’
So, feeding ourselves or others with Satvic Food is equal to performing Homa/Yagna.

Pujya Gurudeva – A million thanks to you for making us perform Homa/Yagna through selfless Food Service to others.
    Sri Guru Datta!

There are so many kinds of hunger in this world. Around me, in Switzerland, I do not see many people lacking food. But soooooo many are lacking the food of the soul. So rightly Sri Swamiji says: show LOVE.
May HE place this Love into my heart, so that it may radiate around to who ever is needy. I remember HIS saying: “Be a ray of light, where ever you go!”
    With love and reverence
    Dana Gita, Switzeland

Sadgurudeva, Please make us all more sensitive to the needs of others. Please help us to shift our preoccupation from our own needs to the needs of others. Please find a way to change the present social system where the rich keep giving gifts to the rich who do not need them, especially during this holiday season, and treat those in need with disdain and neglect. Please help us to recognize each individual as a replica of you and to show equal kindness and generosity towards all. Ever since you have made us aware of the presence of birds and their importance in our lives, I am beginning to notice them and appreciate them more. Please do the same with other people that share this world with me. Please fill my heart with more care and compassion and a better awareness of their needs, physical, mental, and emotional. Jaya Guru Datta

JGD Appaji – We all are very lucky to have such a Guru who show us good path that will not only make our life good and teach us to love everyone and hate no one. We are trying our best to feed the hunger, donate clothes in the winter as said by Bala Swamy – Om Namo Hanumathe Namaha – SGD

    • T.R.sethuraman, Cochin. on December 15, 2012 at 3:41 am

Puttuji, you have given a nice explanation for today’s MMS. Here even though in winter the trees and plants are badly affected and but at the sametime in summer the SunGod Ravi is protecting them. In this context again I remember Appaji’s MMS 164 and 190 wherein the trees and plants are giving every thing to us which shows their kindness and love to us. Therefore in turn we have to protect them from our side also properly in all respects and show our love and affection so that they will give more and more. So here Appaji is reminding us that when in nature trees and plants are giving to us, as human being it is our duty to give food to the needy and not only that we should help them wherever it is necessary and show our love to them so that they will be happy and forget their sorrow to certain extend. More over Appaji Himself as Annadaana Prabhu doing such a noble service, we as a devotee should involve in it and do our service and help in all possible manner. Here I even remember Appaji’s words saying that in all Sevas what ever we participate , Annadaana seva is very great. Therefore Appaji we got your concept and follow your path in all respect. JGD.

Jai Guru Datta, you are mata Annapurna, always wanting to make sure that all your kids are fed and no body should go hungry, you are Parampita Sadguru teaching valuable lesson to all of us about good conduct, about sharing and helping the needy. We will follow you Gurudev, Pranam.

  2. JAYA GURU DATTA ! By giving food to hungry people and rendering help and love to people who need, we get self- satisfaction. So, pls give blessings to me to help the people who need it.

Jaya Guru Datta .A few months back Sri Swamiji introduced us to a new custom of to go on fasting on Tuesday and to offer the food to the poor .It is an unique opportunity to share the happiness of us with the less privileged and poor in society .Offering food or money subsides the distress of the people for the time being on that day .We must be thankful to Sri Swamiji for inducing us to this noble cause .This is like lighting a candle in the midst of darkness. It may not wholly dispel darkness, but if millions of candles are lighted , the gloom is bound to disappear, with the grace of Sadguru.

  3. JAI GURU DATTA,Mata Annapurna Swaroopa Sathgurudeva we will follow this, even now as per the suggestion of Appaji we put some rice aside everyday as Dattabhiksha to be given in the Ashrama, you have taught us Appaji how to be useful by making us participate in Annadana sevas.

finding our absolute fulfilment in being fed, helped and loved by our beloved swamiji – always, in all aspects – it should be easy to follow Your advice. I just read about saracen chivalry – counsels on valor, generosity and the mystical quest (a new book from pir zia inayat khan, the now leader of the sufi order international). pir zia beautifully says: alongside valor is generosity which again involves trust because it means participating in the flow of the Divine largesse. may i be(come) able in all circumstances to give in bounty from what You constantly bestow on me so abundantly.

Jaya Guru Datta! Sri Swamiji’s shines like the sun, equally on everything around. Mata Jayalakshmi always took care of everyone around her. Sri Swamiji continues the tradition, feeding everyone, everywhere He goes, not just in India, but around the globe. Swamiji’s love knows no bounds, loving everyone of all ages and all backgrounds. As Datta family members, we need to be doing the things our Datta Sathguru likes us to, so thank You Puttuji for this reminder. Your commentary about not having anyone in our presence go hungry is something to always remember. You are helping us share food on Tuesdays, Swamiji. May we always remember to share food and help those in need. May we learn to love everyone just the way You do. Obeisances to the Holy Lotus Feet!

Prodigious message, being human if we can follow these few principles in life as mentioned in this MMS, we would be helping ourselves. May lord bless us all to inculcate the habit of sharing things compassionately that are surplus with us.
