  1. The Teachers day mood lingers on. Good teachers love to spot sparks of talent in little ones and fan that spark into huge flames of achievement, because to them, every little being in nature is divine.. and deserves to be nourished. This MMS features the priceless collection of bonsai by His Holiness in the Mysore Ashrama; with some picturesque graphics, set to the bhajan “Guru Maharaj Guru Maharaj “ sung by the Late Prof. Krishnakumar in his album – Swaminatha. Professor – Teacher – singing the praise of His Teacher.. what a lovely match !

Remember His Holiness telling us that “the animate and the inanimate are part and parcel of god” – MMS 64 / 46407971; “Guru trims our bad attitudes to enhance spiritual growth” – MMS33 / 45054387 ; “Plants are our friends. Let’s love and respect them” – MMS 18 / 44154792. Notice the various roles the Guru – Teacher – Gardener – plays in our lives… He treats plants like his friends, respects them, recognizes the divinity in plants, and does not hesitate to trim them for their own betterment. We are fortunate to be in the care of such a Master! He is the Mulikaratna Vaidyaka ( The Master of Herbal Medicine) and Samastha Jagadhadhara (The one who holds / supports everything and everyone in this world).

The bonsai garden is one more way by which His Holiness practices what He preaches. There is an amazing sense of symbolism.. as one reflects deeply into what is being shown, and said here. Is it possible that – given the way we are chopping away plants and trees, are endangering them by pollution and global warming – is it possible that our future generations will see trees only as photographs in books ? Possible. That is possibly why Gurudeva has caught onto Bonsai techniques. He is that one large tree that holds the soil together for the sake of the smaller ones.

Is it also possible that given the way we are polluting our inner environment, we will endanger many a species of good thoughts and attitudes, that we fail to nurture in our minds ? Generosity, Humility, Detachment, Dispassion… is it possible that such noble species of thought will soon become extinct ? Possible. That why our Gurudeva is preserving all of them in 2 Minute MMS Messages. His Holiness knows that a generation that grows on twitter, two minute noodles and 20-20 cricket.. will not have the energy for voluminous Ramayana.. that is why he has popularized the Shatasloki Ramayana on the net, has condensed the puranas into thousands of His five minute bhajans. This Sathguru ‘brings the water to the horse’. This is divinity delivered at our door. We only have to open up.

Datta protects not just his devotee.. but also the next seven generations of that devotee… that is the unique glory of the Datta lineage. Observe our Gurudeva’s methods and you will know how Datta does that. Watch how Gurudeva reinvents Himself with the times to remain relevant to the current generation. Watch how he has graduated from simple harmonium to keyboards to the Steinway piano. Watch how he has moved on from gramophone plates to cassettes to CDs to DVDs to virtual media and vimeo. He is at once the embodiment of the ancient and the modern, the saint and the geek.. relating at ease with the range generations.. old, young and little. He transforms Himself because He wants to transform our lives.. and the lives of generations to come. He is the Bonsai Guru.. who shows us how to preserve the endangered species in our gross and subtle worlds. We only have to open up and be receptive to such transformation.
With koti pranams at His holy feet, Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! What a beautiful tour of the Mysore Ashram Bonsai garden! So good to see it and to see Sri Swamiji happily working with His trees! We are so blessed that you are the gardener in our interior gardens…Teach us to be like the Native Americans who had the consciousness to realize that they needed to leave the environment in good shape for at least the next seven generations to come….

During look this video suddenly I felt a big power which came from these little trees. So much power in a so little “body”. This power – I think – helps to clean this planet. We don’t see it, but one can feel it. Trees have also a soeul, I am sure. I planted as child a tree and I am very bounded with it. Now it is big and I like it much. I would be very happy, when it could stay also for a long time, because it is a peace from my history of life.

    Jaya Guru Hanuman,

How compassionate is our Sadguru maharaj? To preserve the endagered trees in the form of Bonsai for the generation which is hell bent on destroying the environment without considering the consequences. Who can have such compassion other than the universal mother and father. The children keep making mistakes and destroy everything but the Guru finds different ways to teach them and put them on the correct way. Where can we find such a teacher?

JGD Appaji!! Reminded me so many earlier MMSs as Puttuji has recounted. You are teaching us by example, Appaji. Weeding the garden just the way you weed out the bad qualities within us, trimming the out-grown branches, just as you trim our bad attitude, you even manure the soil, just the way you give us the extra soul nourishment through your bitter-sweet speeches and nectar bhajans. You are teaching us to safeguard today so that we do not contribute to endangering and extinction. We get the message, Appaji. With the GEEK around us and with us, we should strive harder to safeguard all this treasure that you are showing us for the future generations. You have re-invented yourself to be in tandem with the ever advancing generations and the technology. We too are striving hard to re-invent ourselves to help our own-selves today and the future generations to come.
Reminds me of the mesmerizing walks that I used to have in Bonsai garden and breathe in the fresh herbs essence in the air. Wow, that is an experience in itself.
Pranams Appaji. Lots of love. JGD!! Thank You Puttuji, for your explanation. JGD!

Jgd.The Message is unique and lays huge burden on the shoulders of the reader. The Bonasai plant represents the huge outside world.Appaji sitting under the tree is the Universal Guru,Lord Dakshina moorthy. Here Swsmiji is indicating that ,what ever is all that is there in the universe is in me,around me in minute form.Like the Mastyavatara I am preserving all that is there for future.

Sri Swamiji preaches what He follows and guides all His devotees to follow them. This message is one of the examples to be noted by everyone that Sri Swamiji Himself is preserving many endangered plants in wonderful bonsai garden in Mysore Ashram with lot of care. Thank You Puttuji for sharing this message.

  3. Puttuji, your wisdom is simply amazing. You are a very astute observer, analyzer and commentator. Hats off to you. If Sadgurudeva is God, you are like the guru who interprets Him for us and helps us to see Him as He is, in His full glory. Thank you. Jaya Guru Datta

    Bonsai ~ 6 sep 2012

Namaste Puttuji. Wonderful video with marvellous photos of Appaji, bonsai trees of Kishkinda moolika garden under the protection of His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji. ‘Let us cherish and preserve the endangered species at least in a bonsai form’ is a very good quote proving once more that Appaji not only teaches spiritually but also to take care of the environment suitable for the present day. Many trees became extinct and hence it’s our duty to protect them at least in a bonsai form which doesn’t take lot of space. If any tree is cut in a land as per necessity, one must remember that another tree should be planted at an appropriate place. Namaste Puttuji. Thank You so much.

JGD Appaji – This visual shows the importance of growing trees by everyone at least in the bonsai form. Everyone should take a oath to plant one tree in a year atleast on his birthday instead of spending money on dress, food etc. Thank you Appaji for reminding us a good cause and importance of trees in these modern days – SGD

  4. Dear Puttuji. Many thanks for your miraculous explanations to SwamiJis Bonsai-MMS. I take time around from myself over and over again with pleasure about that to think and especially as I can integrate these profundities into my everyday life. Thank you. Jaya Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta!
On the subject of disappearing of many trees on earth we could say: What can we do, we do not have the power to do something. However Sri Swamiji brings forward the idea to preserve the endangered trees in Bonsai form. He explains to us that we have can find in Him for any problem a solution to bring forward the good and to do what is needed.
