  1. Naraka Chaturdashi, Bali Paadyami, Skanda Sashti : Occasions to celebrate.. AND recall the consequences of excessiveness, as illustrated through puranic stories of Narakasura, Mahabali & Surapadma.

Thankful deepavali pranams, dear Sathguru !

You’ve answered our prayers by revealing the secret of lasting happiness – The virtuous practice of Moderation.

You’re Gauri, the consort of Siva (sankara jaye). Please keep vigil on us, Oh Devi! (rakshinsu devi) – the one who shines like the sun (ravi sata bhase) – so we don’t slip into the moha of excessiveness. We know you created Skanda to destroy Soorapadma for that reason. We don’t want such a fate.

We see beautiful flowers bloom, when it rains & shines in moderation. We know the gory consequences of excessive rain or shine. We get the point, Sadguru. We’ll follow you, beginning with the way we celebrate this Deepavali. In living a life of moderation we will find lasting happiness. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! When I first started practicing Kriya Yoga I would intently practice for a while and then it seemed as if I had to stop and go out into the world. It was like there was too much energy to just sit and do sadhana and what was generated through the practice had to be released into action. Then I would be in active in the world for awhile and become exhausted and need to withdraw back into practice. This yo yo behavior went on for a few years. Now I understand the need for moderation, the need for both private time for sadhana, but also time in the world. Without that balance, it’s easy to become imbalanced. Om Aditaya Namaha! I love the sunflowers and the final mantra. The sun is a great metaphor for learning moderation. We need sunlight to be healthy, but too much burns us….too little makes us ill. Sri Guru Datta!

Thanks! jai guru datta! Balance in everything, then Swamiji?

    • Savitri on November 12, 2012 at 9:19 am

I know it so good and I have a big fight with me, and this already a few years. It is so difficult, I have realy problems. I know that with the help of Swamiji I will find a solution, but at this time I can’t see, where the way for this solution could go. I hear always the music from Swamiji and hope, soon the healing will go on!

What an awesome message!!! Desire for excess only means greed. It can never be healthy or give peace of mind. Excess of attachment, enemity, friendship, sleep, work, food, emotions like anger, hatred etc…. proves dangerous. True, excess of anything should surely be avoided and following this will let us live in harmony with ourselves and with surroundings. May lord bless us all so that we do not have desire for excess thus lead life with satisfaction and peace.

    • Manu on November 12, 2012 at 10:39 am

    Jai Guru Datta,
exessive use of anything is greed put into practise. Greed is fed from fear – fear of not having enough – lack of fullfillment and the fear to confront this lack and make the right conscious choice. To restrain from something that promisses a happy minute is a sadhana to me. It demands control of my senses and the will to throw away the crutches of that promise, a promise full of lies and deception, at least when I give way to continious use of that “promise”. To use anything without becoming too attached to it would mean I can move about freely and still dwell in the freshness of my spirit and be content with this. I once had the thought “a mind that knows boredom isn´t selfsuficient.” I am somewhat addicted to waching too much tv. I pray to Sri Swamiji – “Please, Swamiji, help me to overcome this error. Help me to build up the strength to be happy and content without sensegratification.
    Sri Guru Datta.

    • Madhavi M.E on November 12, 2012 at 2:47 pm

This MMS gives me an good opportunity of pondering over the question: In which circumstances do/did I exagerate in my way of acting? What are/were the consequences of excess? How to be aware of the moment when I reach the limit so that I can put a stopp and avoid to „fall“ into excess? I had a very hard experience because of doing something with excess during a long time, and it spoiled many things in my life with consequences that could be only partly «repared». Now I am forced to live with restrictions, which is in fact the opposite of excess! That’s the result! If I had not done this big mistake my life would be much more balanced. What a lesson! Yes, thank you, dear Appaji, for this MMS, I will be more careful about what I do in the future. Jaya Guru Datta.

Excess binds our senses, heart and mind and make us a slave to maya. Too much , food, luxury, money, even too much love for family turns us into slaves. It is not easy to take what we need and not what we want. Please help us Appaji , so we have control over our indulgences. Om nam Hanumate namaha. Jaya guru Datta.

    • Kambhoji on November 12, 2012 at 4:53 pm

Excess means something goes out of plomb,
gets out of control, is thrown out of balance
and sooner or later falls into misery…

    Dearest Appaji,
You teach us how to avoid that,
how to do everything in moderation
how to take care of our center and to become well balanced
so that we can stay modest and content in our hearts.

Please help me to resist the temptations which knock at the door in this Kaliyuga
help me to concentrate on Your teachings
and prick up my ears for the fine inner divine voice which guides me!
    Thank You so much!

    Yours Kambhoji

Happy Deepavali to Sadguru Sri Swamiji and to all friends and family members! In this wonderful and most perfect Creation isn’t everything always perfectly balanced? To our ignorant eyes perhaps sometimes things seem imperfect and out of balance. But Nature has a way of restoring balance always, sooner or later. Let us all follow nature and maintain our balance with help from our compassionate Gurudeva. Jaya Guru Datta

Jai Guru Datta! I have always heard that the right measurement is the remedy for a balanced life. And experience proofs this saying. The path of the middle expresses the same thing. Finally it may help us to get out of the apparent dualities. May we all be more and more balanced in all things with our Sadguru’s grace. Koti pranams to His divine feet

as I used to be very excessive in all things, be it drugs or duties, I know the devastating consequences of excess. I’m so glad and grateful that by the loving and patient teaching of sri swamiji I grew able to more and more walk on what we call «der goldene mittelweg» in german (the golden way between). may my life –by the grace of our beloved sadguru –be balanced more and more as to flourish more and more towards the Divine sun and source of all.

Being Deepavali, Puttuji, Appaji has given a beautiful MMS. The music ( Gauri taye) is so nice and your explanation for the same is superb. Here Appaji has mentioned about the word ( Excess)  has got a great meaning. Therefore the fact that unwanted desires are very dangerous in our life. According to me in this MMS, Appaji has further refined this concept( un wanted desires)  from MMS79,87, and138. As already mentioned by Appaji, our mind has got an important role in every aspect of our life. Hence the first step isto control our mind and there by our Will power also increase which lead to dispassion. For all these with out the help of a Sadguru you cannot develop to such a state. Hence we should follow our Sadguru’s words and teachings very strictly and develop our spiritual path so that we can get rid of any excessive things.   JGD
