  1. Dhira: Industrious, Perseverant, Steadfast, Persistent, Resolute, Diligent, Hard-working.

Lord Dattatreya considered the Ant as his 11th Guru. He learnt from the ant how to be industrious.

We don’t have to go looking for such role models.. for, in this Kaliyuga, our dear Gurudeva is the perfect example of industriousness. Those who have seen His Holiness since His early days, and those who have read His life history, know this to be the secret miracle, behind all that He has achieved in this avatara.

    Dear Gurudeva,

You have been the personification of steadfastness, for more than five decades. In very recent times, you have shown how hopeless souls can be transformed through simple 90 second Nandana MMS messages, one mms every day. They say a journey of 1000 miles is accomplished step by step. Million thanks to you for walking the talk, and making us realize this truth. We are following your footsteps. With humble pranams, Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji, As I ponder this message this morning, I think of the beauty of the ants as our teachers. In the Uddhava Gita, we learn about the 24 teachers. In Native American teachings, animal, insect and bird totems, too, can be teachers. There, during the custom of a vision quest, those who go to the wilderness to cry for a vision of what they should do with their lives, wait to see what living things come to them as teachers or as role models. Even in the famous Arthurian legend of the west, young Arthur learned from various creatures as he was being trained to take his place. We have lost this idea that the bird who comes to us on a particular day may be bringing a blessing or a lesson, or that by studying the ants and their actions we can learn an important life lesson. Guru can come in any form He so desires. As I was reading about Diwalli, I came across a passage that said that on its eve, Lakshmi is seen in some places as an owl. Yesterday, on Diwalli, as I remembered her throughout the day, I came across three different images of owls–two beautiful paintings and one photograph…coincidence? The world is full of magic when we open our hearts to allow even the ant to be a representation of our beloved Guru….

    Dear Swami AVADHOTTA
So nice to see the busy ants, yes we can learn from this animals like ants, bees and bumblebee. The ants are also able to carry much more than there own wight and the bumblebee are able to fly, thought her wings physical are not able to carry them.

Jaya Guru Datta – for those who are committed and studious there is nothing unachievable. That is what Appaji is telling us – it is not just to see this MMS, wonder at the value and forget – the inner meaning is definitely for all of us to drive ourselves there – “vidyaaturaanaam na sukham na nidra – “those craving for education do not know what sleep is what pleasure is – they go thru all hardships to accomplish what they wanted to. Thank You Appaji.

    Jai Guru Datta Appaji!
We are so fortunate to have our beloved SadhGuru who is helping us break the limitations of space and time through these nectarine MMS teachings. The example of the Ants and Puttuji’s elaborate comments explain that when we are determined and industrious – the proverbial ‘distance’ doesn’t matter anymore and we WILL reach our goal!
When we have only our goal in focus, the obstacles/hurdles along the path start fading away – it is mysterious and almost miraculous. If we look at one spot on a wall a few ft away with complete focus… after a few secs/mins, everything around us that was in our sight earlier fade away and our mind merges into the goal and there would be no perceivable distance between us and the goal. This is the essence of the Vedic mahavakya ‘Tat Tvam Asi’.
Pujya Gurudeva – We are eternally indebted to you for imparting Vedantic knowledge to us through these simplified examples. Sri Guru Datta!

JGD, Appaji! Lazy people will in priority look at the distance to a goal and at the obstacles they might have to face on the way. Even an aim that does not require much work might appear far away to them. They might renounce or try, but without many chances of success.
Industrious people don’t fear any farther goal. They don’t care about the distance but about what has to be done in order to reach it, and they go into action without discouragement even if they meet obstacles on the way. The probability that they will be successful is high. This is valid for both spiritual and worldly goals. SGD

    Jai Guru Datta,
being industrious means I have a focus and I use my own guts to achieve my aims. Distance is thus only part of a certain task and can be considered as an obstacle, but keeping the focus it is just a nessecity to overcome such obstacles. The focus carries through and finaly one reaches the goal. There´s a lot of importance in this sentence, because it sheds light on what actually moves or motivates us and what is nessecary to carry out our tasks. Thank you, Sri Swamiji to enlighten us on this subject.
    Sri Guru Datta.

HE uses the internet for these wonderful MMS sayings, the e-mail to send us wonderful teachings, lets us participate through video live streaming on concerts and other great events. HE appears in our dreams. But most importantly HE is simply there with us, even if HIS body is somewhere else.

The journey of life is a long one. The spiritual journey is even longer as it spans so many lifetimes and at times the distance can seem to great. Yet if we are steadfast and industrious we can transverse the great distance. We must be industrious in our spiritual journey and Appaji is the swiftest and surest means of transportation. Jai Guru Datta and Happy Childrens Day Appaji !!

Sadgurudeva is the rolemodel of industriousness for us. Swamiji through his incessant drive for perfection in every undertaking teaches us that we must also perform our work with steadfast devotion and perseverance. No amount of hurdles should distract us. Even when Sri Swamiji was unwell, he used His divine will power and composed a record number of 400 ragas and healed Himself to give the world the MOST OUSTANDING AND HISTORIC MUSIC HEALING CONCERT TO DATE at the super presitigous Royal Albert Hall. Even if we take a small paragraph or leaflet from Sri Swamiji’s ever illustrious biography , we will do well in kaliyuga. Indeed Gurudeva is a role-model to the entire mankind. His love transcends religion, species, time and distance.

Dear Appaji , you are simply too exemplary. You work so hard. You are GOD, but I must say, I do not know anyone who works harder. You are our prana. You have done enough for us. It is for us to make you proud. I know you travel everywhere to be physically with Your devotees to satisfy their need to be close to you. But you are always with us, in our hearts and minds. We are all your children and will follow you with steadfast devotion.

JGD. Indeed, Swamiji is the epitome of industirousness. May we apply it fully to ourselves. JGD.

  4. Jgd.God or Guru always are present at a distance,so as to appear that they are unreachable or easily not reachable to people It takes lot of resolve and determination on the part of devotee to make the God listen to his owes. The Lord of Seven hills,Venkateswara, lord Narasimha swamy are at one time inaccessible position,Guru kula the famous schools of veda were situated away from the din of people.Education was imparted on merit.Guru upadesa was not easily given.
In Kaliyuga where God or Guru has to repeatedly prove their presence, have not changed their Rules.Pray with devotion and toal surrender they appear, otherwise they pretend to have appeared in a dream scene.
GOD or GURU do not easily accept, it requires lot work by the devotee.

Puttuji your explanation for today’s MMS is absolutely correct and true. In this Kaliyuga  our Sadguru  Himself is an example for this word industrious which is very apt also. For the growth of the spiritual path and for His mission how much effort Appaji is taking and in this connection the distance is not at all a problem or an issue for Him. This is clearly seen from His tour programs in an year through out the world for the development of spiritual path even at this age. Here I remember Appaji’s yesterday’s MMS 167 wherein He is saying about Time is endless. In otherwords don’t see the past or future and think about the Present and work hard and keep always busy. In today’s world everybody is very busy to earn money only for the worldly pleasures and think, That should be the Aim. At the same time in this busy schedule  they forget to develop the spiritual path also. Later only they realize this and by that time it is very late and their health, mind and brain will never permit them to work for spiritual path. Therefore Appaji You have reminded through various MMS  that when You are working very hard for the growth of spiritual path,  we as a follower and devotee should spent sometime  for Your development of Mission and also work hard for the same. We got Your concept and follow accordingly Appaji. The photography is very apt for the MSG and we can see how the Ants are very busy and working hard for their Aim and the distance is not an issue.    JGD.

    • Sarumati on November 15, 2012 at 4:48 am

When we see an ant, we may say, at first sight, ok, it`s only a small being. what can it do?
But it shows us such a lot ! It is systematical, busy and steadfast. So it can accomplish much.
To follow our Sadguru as a good example and the 11th guru of Dattatreya is a very good aim.

This brings me to perseverance again, because I missed watching the latest MMS ….
Each MMS is a small step, we can master easily, but to go on and on may be difficult.
Perseverance is a big task for me, and a special miracle!

To watch 10 seconds into sunlight f.e., shortly after sunrise or before sunset day by day, and
increase 10 seconds every day, will bring much benefit. It sounds easy, but is very very difficult.
So, to continue one small step after the other, consequently, is the secret of result.

As Shri Swamiji told us many times, if we go one step towards him, he will go 10 steps towards us.

    Jai Guru Datta.

    Jaya Guru Datta Puttuji.
My humble prostrations to the Holy Feet of Sri Swamiji.
Sri Swamiji reminds us that we are analogous to ants in this vast universe created by the Lord. Thus, we are the ants in quest to cross this dense jungle of samsara. It is not easy to overcome this maya or illusion. However, our compassion- personified Sadguru is always there to guide us to overcome this illusion. Swamiji always reminds us that He is here only to guide, and it is our duty to follow and do sadhana. In today’s MMS, Appaji gives us courage and motivation to keep going with our sadhana, regardless of pending distance, as our Sadguru will always guide us and never leave our side.

without really understanding this mms i am reminded that the land where sri swamiji founded the ashrama in 1966 was populated by snakes and ants. and what has our beloved sadguru developed out this ! beholding this I understand what could mean. it is not this hectic overactivated busy-ness we can see all around, a kind of proficiency obviously fuelled by egoistic aims. may we be able to do what we can do out of love, in a quiet balanced Self-centred way, devoting all we have and all we can to You, only You.

True, no one can stop a sincere and dedicated person, towards work taken up, from achieving his goal be it in worldly affairs or in experiencing the almighty. Distance here i understand as the various steps to reach the goal. Of course for an industrious person nothing can stop or disappoint him for any obstacles in between in reaching the goal. May lord bless us all to be industrious.

For those who are industrious, distance is never an issue ~ 14 Nov 2012

Determination is the key. When we are determined to accomplish some task, we persevere until all obstacles are overcome. This attitude comes with a strong will power. As Puttuji has very aptly said, we are all today enjoying the benefits of our Sadguru’s steadfastness. Our ashram stands testimony to this. When our intention is noble and we have a strong desire to accomplish it, God also comes to our aid in myriad ways. Obstacles in our path are only to make us stronger and perfect. With such an industrious Master guiding us, our journey to the destination will be a wonderful learning. Jaya Guru Datta.
