  1. A full moon day, and a Friday.. and what can be more apt than invoking Goddess Varalakshmi today ? His Holiness makes it a double blessing by also invoking Jayalakshmi Mata in His birth place of Mekedatu. Goddess Varalakshmi bestows virtues, riches and happiness on those who worship her. What a blissful treat to see His Holiness adoring Varalakshmi Mata in the final frame! We are really privileged, this full moon Friday!

In a world where lesser mortals take the credit for what they did and did not do.. we also have a mighty saint like our Appaji who accomplishes so much in one life time, and then bows down to His Guru in humility.. saying “Amazingly, the grace of the Gods accomplishes everything”. Just think of achieving so much in life and then coming back to your birth place to bow down to your Mother in whom you see your Guru and your God! Is such humility, gratitude and nishkamya karma the secret of one’s lifetime achievement ? Certainly. That is the central import of this MMS.

The obsession to claiming credit irrespective of whether one deserves it or not.. has been rampant over the ages. That is why it takes repeated reflection and practice to get over such an addiction. So, His Holiness adopts various methods to feed us the nutrition we need.. as seen in MMS 88, 72, 69 and 20. Following that trend, comes this MMS set to the background of the blissful melodious bhajan ‘Jayalakshmi Jaya Mate bhavani’ sung by Swami Manasa Datta.. serving the same honey in a different bottle. Why not ? Doesn’t the mother, in her love for her child serve the milk, rice and dal in various flavors ? Doesn’t the child get nourished by such variety ? So, it is with nourishment for the inner spirit. Repetition IS the mother of learning.

To appreciate the importance of what is being said, ask who is the achiever who is accomplishing everything ? This MMS says it is God’s grace. Saying so, can be a great pressure reliever in today’s kali yuga. This is the secret of success.. whether in the seat of samsara or in the seat of inner contemplation. As we discussed in a previous MMS, why should you carry your bag on your shoulders, when there is so much room in the bus you are travelling in ? When you put that bag down, you begin enjoying the journey. When you say “God’s grace is accomplishing everything.. not me”.. you start feeling as light as the water on a lotus leaf. When you are no more shackled by the stress, anxieties and worrries about what the results are going to be, you are fully engaged in the present moment.. and in that heightened state of concentration, work can be nothing but excellence. You get going, when you let go – of your attachment to results. Krishna taught the same secret to Arjuna.

Appaji is teaching us the same secret. Dear Appaji, We join you in your prayer to Jayalakshmi Mata. She is Mata Annapoorneshwari and Mata Varalakshmi herself. We bow down before you and the Divine Mother in the same spirit of humility, gratitude and nishkamya karma. You in your divine grace are the achiever. We are just instruments in your loving hands. Keep it this way for ever. We need that grace to progress in our gross and subtle endeavors.

With koti pranams at your holy feet, Jaya Guru Datta.
    Your Puttuji

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji, Yesterday, as I was watching how the Hurricane was moving into the drought stricken regions of our country, I was contemplating how God hears all prayers. The slow moving nature of this storm meant that it brought much more water than a storm usually would carry because it stayed over the Gulf longer and gathered more moisture. The miraculous thing is that, while we are having flooding here, things could have been far, far worse. We were told that the storm would be like Gustav, the worst to enter our region, but instead, it was much milder. It was like God tiptoed over us trying not to spill too much water as it was carried to those who needed it! God’s love and grace are so apparent in this event–in our protection and in the extra water for those affected by the drought–It is truly amazing how the grace of the Gods accomplishes all that is needed! Sri Guru Datta!

    • Savitri on August 31, 2012 at 9:18 am

Because the grace of the gods accomplishes everything, all is from God, all is life, also the most little animal and plants etc. What this means for me? I have to bring respect to all things on this world. But it is very difficult. How I can do it? I have a garden with a lot of vegetabils, but there are also a lot of snails which eat my vegetabils. Now what is to do? I have no solution for this problem. At the end I strew grains with poison, but with a sad heart. I would like so much find a solution without kill any creature!

The message is replete with a great deal of significance and it presupposes that in the first instance the grace of sadguru is must for one to earn the grace of almighty. We are fortunate to have such a powerful and all benvolent sadguru like our Appaji. I humbly pay my obeissance to our Swamiji. Jaya Guru Datta!

I pray to Sri Swamiji begging him to let me in every moment be aware that I am only an instrument of HIS will. Jaya Jayalakshmi Mata. Jaya Guru Datta.

Bowing down to Jayalakshmi Mata, it is Her Love and Divine direction to all the Gods who come to worship Her. The Grace is comforting and brings here to fore unknown peace to this devotee.
Singing praises of Mother Goddess immediately gives this Motherly comfort. Jai Sri Mata

    • Suri Duvvuri on August 31, 2012 at 1:56 pm

Dear Puttuji, There is no end to Swamiji’s grace. As Eshwari stated earlier, even the tropical storm Isaac turned out to be a blessing for the drought stricken parts of the U.S.
How simple and beautiful the MMS, the explanation by you and the instantaneous change in the mood and thoughts about this world !!! The grace of Swamiji is beyond compare, infinite, with not even the least suggestion of Him being behind all this, giving all the credit to the “Gods”, whom I have not seen. The only God I know is Swamiji, telling me not to think of attributing any of the successes or failures to any one other than the “Gods”. Putting the weight of the baggage on to the bus or the boat called “Swamiji” lightens me up so much that it is totally enjoyable. Prayers are to Swamiji to continue fostering the idea of non-“I”. A child loves a mother out of selfish needs. I love the mother in Swamiji more and more also ..just like the child. It is up to Him to teach me/us the unselfish love…..all in “GOd”‘s good time. Pranams at the Lotus Feet of our beloved Swamiji. Jaya Guru Datta !!

    Jaya Guru Hanuman,

This MMS brings to mind Lord Hanuman who is epitome of humility and selfless service. Lord Hanuman has accomplished so many great things – remove sorrow of Sita, bring Lakshman back to life more than once, help Sugreeva make friendship with Lord Rama and be crowned, helped Vibhishana etc. and yet he always considered himself to be servant of Rama.

Lord Hanuman has been praised by Lord Rama, Sanaka, Brahma, Rishis, Narada, Sarada, Kubera and many more. Ordinary mortals would have been easily carried away by name and fame and attribute the success to one’s own greatness but not Hanuman. Lord Hanuman always felt that it is power of Rama that accomplishes everything. What beautiful humility?

We can find similar humility in our Swamiji. He has done so much work which is humanly impossible yet he always says it is Jayalakshmi mata who is accomplishing everything.

Let us always remember these two examples whenever we are carried away thinking that we are the doers. Let us always pray “Oh Lord! You are the master, I am your servant; You are the doer,
    I am your instrument”.

Humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Sri Swamiji

    Om namo hanumate namaha

    Jaya Guru Datta,

    my dearest full moon
    how brilliant is your look
how much influence you have on us
    – when I am looking at you
I can listen to my heartbeat
and think about you growing and get slim again
and I wonder: what an amazing creation!

Even in dark nights, when we miss your light
    you are still present
like our beloved Swamiji – unseen but always with us!

Om Sri Jayalakshmi Mata ki jay

    • Maurice Clarke on August 31, 2012 at 4:00 pm

JGD. Indeed, it is “Amazing Grace” – the grace of Sadguru and The Divine Mother! JGD.

    • on August 31, 2012 at 4:48 pm

In this MMS we witness beautiful, lightful, nurishing and protecting green florishing Mother Earth, Nature, where everything is in natural flow, happening at it’s right time; Mother Goddess in the form of the oneness of Varalakshmi and Jayalakshmi Mata who gave birth to our beloved Sadguru; Sri Swamiji inspite of his great achievments being himself a Sadguru, in great gratitude worshipping her with intense love and humility; accompanied by the very beautiful soft Bhajan “Jayalakshmi – Jaya Mate Bhavani…”, rendered in a deep heartful manner by Swami Manasa Datta – radiates such a overwhelming purity !
Why can’t many of us easily have full, full faith in this divine guidance in each and every moment ? It seems so easy and yet often difficult, especially when our limiting ego with it’s anxiety is creeping in, yielding for a desirable result.
Mainly when something went “wrong” due to “my” action, i.e. “my” action bear negative fruits, it is
rather difficult for me to accept it as God’s/Guru’s will.
Dear Appaji, please help me to transcend my limited view and to develop FULL faith in each and every moment and that I may more and more live nishkamya karma, rendering everything to your lotusfeet and thus feel free and light. Please make me develop deeper awareness so that I can hear your subtle voice more and more clearly and so become a better instrument and serve You in a better way.
Thank you very much for your endless loving care and guidance ! I wished, I could give you at least a little bit back !
Om Aim Hrim Shrim Lalitambikaye Namaha

Sri Matre Namaha. Our beloved Sadguru has taught us the meaning of doership, and how blessed we are to be serving the Master with love, devotion and humility. Appaji once said, “You do my work and I will take care of yours”. For the past twenty years following Appaji, I have seen my life unfold where the impossible became easy and doable with projects like Aripo Datta Ganga and Nada Sangama Steel Orchestra. Even with large projects such as the construction of the 85 foot tall Lord Hanuman in Trinidad, we were given the opportunity to serve, while knowing it was all His doing. The other secret of spiritual work is to be in a state of surrender and leave the rewards to God. Thank you, Appaji for this beautiful message.

‘Jayalakshmi Jaya Mate bhavani’ sung by Swami Manasa Datta.. this brings back such beautiful and heart warming memories, the Ashram used to vibrate everyone would be clapping and singing at the top of ther voices (even dancing) it was as though Mother Goddes was right there.

    Jai Guru Datta,
in my view, grace of God is always around us, day and night, only when we realize this,
we will have benefit. As Puttuji states it clearly, Sri Swamiji`s humility and gratitude towards
his mother Jaya Lakshmi shows us how to behave towards Sri Swamiji and all life around him –
the whole world, its animals, plants, human beings … never hurt them, always protect them …
When we live peacefully in the present every moment, being content with our life, no matter
what happens, with good striving we will definitely succeed .
Thank you , dear Swamiji, for showing us !

    • on September 2, 2012 at 3:29 pm

    Jaya Guru Datta
Many times we think that because of my hard work i achieved this and that….today’s MMS is very aptly said, many instances happened in my life which cannot be explained by logic, but things happened which seemed to be impossible.
Once we have 100% faith in the almighty(Sri Swamiji) and we have put our effort, no doubt success is ours. Pujya Sri Swamiji is living example of this.
    Sri Guru Datta

Sri Jayalakshmi Matre Namaha. Our Sadguru is showing that we always have to be grateful to the higher forces in the universe that bless us. Appaji is the combination of these forces. Our Sadguru and Jayalaksmi Mata are the same. I dreamt Appaji telling me this and this video reminds me of this blissful dream. Thanks Appaji. JGD Appaji!! Yes, It is really amazing that everything can be and is accomplished by God’s Grace. But for Gods to shower their grace, we need to put in all the effort we can, without expectations, keeping our intent right and keeping our faith. Surely, our tasks will be accomplished. Power of repitition, yet again. Remembering the previous MMSs. Definitely, food for the soul kind of an MMS. Thanks Puttuji for the explanation. JGD!!
