Guru reva para Ganga tasmai Sri Gurave namaha !!

Millions of humble prostrations to the lotus feet of Pujya Sadgurudeva !!

  1. Gurudeva is holding two roses for us.. One is knowledge, and the other humility. One without the other does not carry value. We earn respect only when we demonstrate the value we can create.

This is eternal truth, elucidated over the yugas in every avatara. Rama went to the forest & suffered for 14 years in all humility. Krishna was a cowherd & charioteer. His Holiness Sri Swamiji is humility personified.

What you know sits behind your eyes & between your ears. No one cares how much you know, until you get your hands to do something with it, in ways that make a difference to the world around you. Rama had to earn his respect from Sugreeva by using one arrow to chop 7 trees (Shakasloki – Sloka 71)

Dear Gurudeva, Many things you have taught us. We’ll in all humility convert that knowledge into service to humanity around us. In doing so, we will earn the respect of our world for your mission. Without that, our life is incomplete. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! I love the images in this unique video. The ice reminded me of a lecture you gave many years ago about knowledge. You told us that we often fill ourselves with all sorts of facts that we have gleaned from books and other sources and think ourselves highly knowledgeable, but instead often lack the “real” knowledge of the meaning of those facts. You said when we hold onto to what we think we know in pride, we often don’t grow as we hoped to grow because we are stuck in our ego and full of incorrect or misunderstood information. Instead, you instructed us to bow before your photo and empty and surrender all knowledge that we thought we had about a subject at your feet and to ask you to fill us with correct knowledge. There is little room for blessing and knowledge in a full vessel, you explained, but when we are humble and empty ourselves of all knowledge we think we have before you, real knowledge begins to blossom within us with your blessing…Sri Guru Datta!

We see in the world, what it brings, when knowledge isn’t coupled with humanity. There is a big misuse of things. We see it in simple examples: Knowledge to work with a computer can make wonderful things like Swamiji. But when it isn’t coupled with humanity the whole system can be disturbed by some people. It can also make ill like in Japan, where a lot of teens have big problems and are only sitting before theire computer, not able, to life in this real world.

Sri Swamiji is offering us so much knowledge, and so gently like the roses He is holding in His hands. Always teaching us how to behave in such a beautiful way.

Lord Krishna, the Universal spiritual master, was always humble in his behavior. He always prostrated to the elders Kunti, Gandhari, and Dhritarashtra, and honored them. He behaved respectfully towards the Kauravas giving them due respect as rulers of a kingdom. He gave his immense knowledge to Arjuna in private, one-on-one, not on a big stage to an audience of thousands amidst a lot of fanfare, declaring to be a scholar.
Sri Swamiji, the knower of all, is very humble in his behavior. He treats even the lowliest person with affection and respect. He shares his knowledge willingly and eagerly and yet, with humility, in simple words, not displaying his scholarship in bombastic language or spewing off quotations from the scriptures in unknown languages.
Sri Jayalakshmi Mata, the Mother of the Universe, taught the essence of all knowledge to her young son in the privacy of her home, not on any public platform. She lived a humble, simple life amidst illiterate villagers, treating her neighbors as her own family.
We hold such spiritual masters in great esteem. Those scholars who are arrogant and proud of their book knowledge and who show off their superiority by putting others down, may demand respect and receive it from a few gullible persons for a short time. But fake scholars, who lack the experience of Truth, fail to command respect. Jaya Guru Datta

Appaji, by your command alone I have been posting messages here and on Facebook. I have no knowledge. I pray each time that you should take charge of my finger tips as I type. When suddenly at times my memory fails, or my mind goes blank, I understand with clarity that my thoughts are not at my command. I remember and think as you wish me to think. I express only as you wish me to express. I place all my actions and expressions at your divine lotus feet. I love you. Your love and your humility transcend everyone else’s. You are God and yet, you treat each one of us as if we were God. My eyes become moist and my words cease. Jaya Guru Datta

    Jai Guru Datta Appaji!
You are the greatest living example for us in both these aspects. You are an Ocean of Knowledge (Pragnanam) and all your actions are coupled with the highest degree of Humility… and you have bestowed upon us many examples of Knowledge/Wisdom coupled with Humilty through various anecdotes in Hanuman Charitra, Shata Sloki Ramayana, Bhagavatham etc.
Please give us the strength to follow your teachings and your example!
Spectacular visuals in this MMS… Loved the dancing peacock feathers and interpreted the Snow/Ice and Misty background as Inner transformation from gross to subtle… that takes place when Knowledge is coupled with Humilty and reflects in our actions.
    Sri Guru Datta.

Jaya Guru Datta! Thank You for the reminder, Puttuji. If Avadhootas like Sri Swamiji display so much humility even with complete and perfect knowledge, how can I, with my very limited knowledge not be humbled. Perhaps, Sri Swamiji is showing us that wtih great knowledge comes humility. It is only when we don’t know enough that we become arrogant. Great souls like Kartaveeryarjuna, Parashurama, Arjuna were all humbled by their association with Avadhootas. It’s baffling, humbling and heartening at the same time to see Sri Swamiji move and talk among us, on our plane, as if He shares our problems. Humility gets its definition from Avataras like Sri Swamiji. By the grace of Sri Swamiji, may we always remember this lesson. Obeisances to the Holy Lotus Feet!

Knowledge in itself is power. Humility is a trait we all have to acquire to forbid the power of knowledge to get to our heads. Our knowledge can be appreciated only if we can use it to help others in whatever little way we can. There is no use if have airy attitude and try to fake our supremacy. No one would even care to take a second look at us if we can’t share what we know. In my school days, our teachers used to assign more intelligent student to a less intelligent peer, so that the more intelligent one shares her notes, her knowledge etc. I used to be one such intelligent student who used to help my peers. I started throwing my weight around and that’s when I began losing respect and gained a notorious tag of being haughty. Time turned it around and I became the less intelligent one and had to be given special attention. That’s when I realized that I was so haughty and hopeless. It could have been my mother’s prayers to Appaji that made me realize the importance of humility. Today, in my profession, as a mentor, I know what it takes to remain humble and how to appreciate humility. It is is indeed a corporate trait that every professional is expected to possess. Thanking my mom for her prayers in my childhood and thanking my Sadguru to have taught me this precious lesson.

JGD.Beautiful saying, definitely,no knowledge however great it may be will not give any humble fruit to humanity. What is the use of knowledge with a wicked person.Like the demon king Ravana who forcefully takes away Sita mata, and finally meets an end in the hands of Rama. When the knowledge is held with respect and humility it gives fragrance to the holder of the knowledge.Society also respects such people.Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan when he was President of India went to England. The macMillans are His publishers. He went alone to the MACMILLANS alone and the surprised publishers asked The President had you sent a word we would have to you,Mr.president, with all Humility Dr.Radhakrishnan told them I here as an Author.Such people Exude the fragrance of the Rose. All Great people look simple, despite their powers.Guru though teaches to his subjects, He himself never stops learning.

During my studies of physics one thing came clear: as more as i learned as more i was aware of what i did not know. After meeting Sri Swamiji new worlds have been opening before my eyes which i was completely unaware of before. All this shows to me that the amount of what i know is minute. How wonderful that Sri Swamiji is with us and teaches and guides us in such great ways.

Any Knowledge happens because of the grace of Guru and His blessing. We are not the owner of anything, not even our own selves. We cannot control where we are born or even when we will die. How can we be proud or attribute ownership to anything that happens between this life and death cycles..Anything good is because of Sadguru’s grace, anything bad we need to take ownership and correct it with His grace only.

Knowledge, when coupled with humility commands respect ~ 9 Oct 2012

Without knowledge, ignorance prevails. Ignorance is dispelled once knowledge is gained. It is said that knowledge completes a man. But if knowledge is not channelized in the right direction, it gives way to ego. As we all know, ego destroys a man both internally and externally. An egoistic person is never respected.

As the MMS says when knowledge is coupled with humility, a person commands respect. A very great example for humility is our Lord Hanuman. He was the disciple of Lord Suryadeva and had gained immense knowledge from him. Even though Lord Hanuman was so knowledgeable, he was never egoistic about it, but remained humble always. Lord Rama was also the very personification of humility and knowledge. Lord Rama always respected Lord Hanuman for his knowledge and utmost humility.

One must never use the strength or knowledge just because they exist with him, but judiciously use them with utmost humility for the benefit of everyone and upliftment of Dharma. For this, our Pujya Gurudeva is the living example. Though Pujya Gurudeva is Dattatreya incarnate, with utmost humility HE always refers to HIMSELF as only an instrument.

Let us all shed our ego and follow our Gurudeva in word and deed. I humbly beg Pujya Gurudeva to give us the knowledge and guide us to serve humanity, with humility. Jaya Gurudeva Datta!

    • Joseph on October 10, 2012 at 10:05 am

A person should never be egoistic for his merits like knowledge, wealth, health, physical appearance and occupation because whatever he possess are gifted by God. God is happy only when we use these merits to help others for a good cause else there is no point in possessing all these. Possessing knowledge is appreciable, but along with it one should be able to share it with others with humility. A teacher who shares his knowledge with students and affectionate with students are remembered for ever by students out of respect and love. Every person has few school teachers whom they adore for life time because they had not just shared the knowledge but had been gentle and caring too. Similarly scholars should have humility coupled with knowledge and should not boast themselves for their knowledge. Generally merits are respected but just merits are not sufficient, the attitude of the person possessing them is also important. Sri Swamiji’s messages are extraordinarily good, where in they convey messages to improve personal conduct and to be a good human.

JGD. On knowledge, I like to remember that Swamini Kali Ray said that knowledge is not our own and it comes from a shared universal consciousness. Therefore the habit of me mentally grabbing ownership of an idea is curtailed somewhat.

But then this leads the greedy grabbing side to counter-argue, “well at least the idea came to ME and not someone else,” to re-enforce separation and pride. Humility struggles, but every now then manages to remember that this ME thing, I really do not anything about and that all things come and go only on account of Sathguru’s grace.

This is a tough battle! I pray victory be Lord Dattatreya’s!!!

«Ich weiss, dass ich nicht weiss» (I know that I do not know) is a famous saying from the greek philosopher sokrates (4th/5th century BC) and the more I know the more I know that I do not know … sri swamiji is the personification of absolute knowledge and perfect humility. the more I understand humility the more I know that is not enough to cultivate humility on the surface, we have to be(come) humble down to the bones. our beloved sadguru out of His infinite grace teaches us humility and the highest truths in such a creative way as per mms. may be(come) worthy of Your love and light.

It is clear that when we “blow our own horns” there is little humility. Often wondering why someone doesn’t take us seriously because we have “something of value”. Ego is easily bloated and is never healthy while fattened. This ego must be slain constantly in order to be humble. There is much more peace in this humility as there is nothing to have to maintain or hold on to. Through Sri Swamiji’s teachings this has become clear and ingrained in this devotee’s life. I pray to see always that I really know little in this huge ocean. Jaya Guru Datta

Knowledge, when coupled with humility commands respect ~ 9 Oct 2012

True knowledge makes one humble. Such a person is respected by all. When we are half-baked, ego seeps in. We tend to believe that we know everything in life and all that we know is only right. The more knowledge one gains, the humbler He should become. When the knowledge gained is about the greatness of Lord, we are in awe of His glory and that brings in more humility. It makes us understand how small we are in front of the Lord, and His greatness! This true knowledge can be granted by Sadguru. We see many great personalities who have also demonstrated this quality and command great respect – Dr. Abdul Kalam, Mother Theresa, Swami Vivekananda – just to name a few. Let us walk in their foot steps under the guidance of our Master and gain this knowledge. This is incomplete when there is no humility. May our Sadguru bless us all with knowledge and humility and may we all use this for the good of fellow beings! Jaya Guru Datta
