  1. Deep sea is silent. It’s shallow shores are noisy.

The devas & asuras churned the Ocean of Milk with Mount Mandara as the shaft & Serpent Vasuki as the rope, because they wanted the nectar. When the mountain started sinking into the sea bed, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Kurma (Turtle) and bore the weight of Mandara on his back, preventing the mountain from sinking. That turtle seeked no pomp & show, no recognition.

EGO seeks showmanship. EGO seeks recognition. EGO – Edges Greatness Out.

It is a great blessing to be able to give & serve. That intrinsic joy is such a great reward in itself. It lasts. The moment we bring in a selfish, recognition seeking motive behind such giving, that joy lasts only as long as the recognition does.

    Dear Gurudeva!

Koti pranams, for showing us the right way of giving. How much you have given to how many.. and how silent you have been about such giving! We are following you.

Only one time I made such a pompous donation. The reaction from Swamiji healed me quickli from too much ego. Then I learned: stay modest, give your heart and make donations without any wish!

Om Hiranyagarbhaya Namah. Pranams to our Dattaswaroopa Swamiji who resides in our Heart. This quote bring to miind what elders has tolds us. “Your left hand should not know what your right hand is giving.” We pray whenever, whatever we offer to our sadguru should bring smile and happiness to him and only humbleness in me because what can we offer to the Lord of Lords. It is only because of his kindness He gives us the oppurtunity to give.Praying again that let us all have good health, wealth, satbuddhi to participate in all the activities which are very close to Dattas heart. Jaya Guru Deva Datta.Sri Guru Deva Datta.

Jaya Guru Datta! There are so many ways to serve Swamiji and His mission. We are fortunate to have so many different opportunities. While some have much to give financially, others offer seva in various other means. Whatever method we choose, each is valuable according to our abilities. We are very blessed to have these chances. Sri Guru Datta!

When we donate, let’s have a great mentality by staying humble and without any expectation for recognition or for any other priviledge. Many thanks for this MMS, dear Appaji, because it can happen so easily that we fall into this kind of small mentality if we don’t control ourselves. Jaya Guru Datta

    • Venkat on January 3, 2013 at 10:40 am

Jaya Guru Datta. Appaji has been showing us all the essence of this MMS in a leading-by-example mode. I remember Appaji always used to say that the trees never crave for recognition giving shelter or fruit, the clouds didnt ask them to be recognized for bringing in rains Nor the Guru for saving/protecting and guiding all of us. Thank You Appaji!!!

  2. Jaya Guru Datta. Dearest Mother Sri Swamiji, I pray for a diminished ego so that when I gve it is in secret and like in the Christian Bible, when I give to the needy, do not let my left hand know what my right hand is doing. My ego is too strong already, I do not need anything to inflate it. Please let me remember that nothing is really mine to give… It is all a gift from Sri Swamiji. The bigger gift is the opportunity to give, not to be a recipient of such charity. Sri Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta,
if we make a donation it should from the heart. It should be done with pleasure. It is supposed to be a selfless action.
Our beloved Sri Swamiji always said He could live without anything and this is true: He does not need our money at all. We are blessed and lucky if we can support the Dattapeetham and its projects.
    Sri Guru Datta

    Jai Guru Datta.
Thanks to Appaji for reminding us and guiding us in behaving appropriately and lifting our standards in our day to day activities. Our Sadgurudeva has given us many opportunities to do charity in humility. May we take your instructions as the dearest words to our minds and hearts. Jai Guru Datta.

    Jai Guru Datta,
it´s not so easy to be in contact with the Absolute wich has taken Form. We are deceived to project our wishes and psychological desires onto such a Being in hope of fullfillment. But this is no fullfillment. I think fullfillment has to do with getting rid of those wishes and desires and to become empty, so that the light within can come into consciosness. So actually, donating to a Guru can be an act of humbling oneself and to show love to Him in a material way. Expecting something in return is due to ignorance and we, or better I fall just too easily into this trap and I don´t even know if I can do otherwise as long as I´m caught in ignorance. May Sri Swamiji bless us with true knowledge and thus remove the vail of ignorance.
    Sri Guru Datta.

Thank You Appaji for reminding us to be true Datta devotees. As mentioned in the previous MMS, sweet words and charity do more good to oneself than to others. So keep on doing your Karma and dont sit and wait for recognition each time.

    • Antony Ramnarine on January 3, 2013 at 7:44 pm

JGD. In Sri Swamiji’s autobiography, the point is made that once a donation is made, the donor has no right to dictate how it is to be used as it is no longer his property. There should be no ego involved either, since everything we own came from God. These principles were made clear by Appaji many years ago. Today’s message is a helpful reminder about service, ego and humility.

Though everybody is working from don to dusk to earn money and to enjoy the the comforts it brings,it’s seen that only a few are able to amass the wealth. This is perplexing and the intricacies behind this cannot be understood by a common man.In this context I recollect a few words said by Sriswamiji in a lecture. “By giving a part of such accumulated wealth by way of donation, a person may go through certain amount of pain (because of the lose in his total accumulation) but he would be setting off a portion of his sins”. If one understands in depth the above words said by Swamiji, where is the scope to the urge for recognition behind the donation. In fact donations are like a channel to shed down the load of accumulated sins in amassing the wealth. Very thought provoking MMS Appaji. Its an eye opener for such people.

  4. JGD.APPAJI!The concept given is the most required following by us.Any how we fall in the trap of pride and ahambhava and do the mistake you point out now.Pl. save us from this trap.SGD.

This is such an important message and reminds me to check my intentions with every form of giving. The ego can be so tricky and infiltrate actions so sneekily, that I have to be very alert to catch it. Thank you for these wonderful blessings Swamiji.

Appaji has given a beautiful lesson to us through today’s MMS. The photography and the music on key board in raga Ganamurthe is so nice and gives a soothing effect. Further I remember Appaji’s words saying that, when we pray to God, first you must praise the God by chanting mantra as per our wish and at the end we should seek His blessing not to have any ego in our life or in any of our actions. Also pray to give the balance of mind to face any bad karma in our life. Therefore to reduce the ego according to me the mind has also got a role in our life. In otherwords if we are able to control the mind, we will not show any pompous and will not bother about any recognition, when ever we do any good things or in our action also. At the same time to control the mind we have to follow the spiritual path through our Sadguru in which case to a great extend we can reduce our ego in our life. Ego is the main root cause to spoil our life. Therefore we are so fortunate to get our Sadguru especially in this kaiyuga and it is our duty to make use of His words and teachings. JGD.

jayagurudatta puttuji, sashtangapranams at lotus feet of poojya swamiji, this is very very important message by poojya swamiji for all datta devotees,we are so lucky in aposition to give donation with the
grace of sadguru grace only, with his divine blessings only we are able to give, the original owner is sadguru we are middle man, why should we require name, that all belongs to our sadguru, poojya swamiji was telling many times ,few devotees donot want their names for their services, simply they
do samarpana and go away, we all should think that our name should be at sadguru,s lotus feet not
    any where, om namo hanumathenamhaa

Jai Guru Datta Appaji _/\_ !!

We have to remember the following MMss and practice charity without delay, because nothing is Ours. We have to return to God what He has given quietly to achieve salvation in Kali Yuga.

MMs 80 Good deeds of this life will result in a good future birth.
MMS 86 True joy is giving not in receiving.“Manava Seva is madhava seva”. His Holiness principle is strictly to be remembered.
MMS 94 Wordly love and pride of achievement and possession are false.
MMS 103 Even a small effort receives recognition when it is done in a noble way.
MMS 164 The trees gives, gives and gives Everything and nothing in return, Sadguru gives, gives and gives love and wisdom every turn.
MMS 183 A disciple can achieve anything by being simple and humble.
MMS 188 Good deeds should never be done with a selfish motive.
MMS 198 To the hungry give food, render help and show love.
MMS 218 Making a pompous donation wishing for recognition shows a small mentality.

With the darshan of Lord Hanuman, a person is blessed with the prosperity that is needed to conduct such charity. He is also blessed with the good intellect (buddhi) that is needed to undertake deeds of charity. – Appaji says in Vanara Gita Episode 9 Tr by Parimala Eshwarla.

Sadgurudeva, You are the doctor for our body, mind and soul. There is no limit to your silent giving and compassion. We will follow your teachings. Please give us the wisdom, courage, and strength to imbibe your teachings, practice them and experience the joys of giving like you do.!!

Sri Guru Datta !! Om Namo Hanumathe Namaha !!

Sri Swamiji gives us so much. To be more exact: He gives us what we really need. This He knows much better than we do, He knows it exactly. Wherever we are. At any time. Day for day. We can never ever give Him back what He gives us. But we can show our deepest gratitude.
It is our greatest joy to support His projects. All His projects support the universal well being of everybody and everything. There is nothing more wonderful than to participate actively in one project. To have this chance is a great gift.

Jaya Guru Datta! Sri Swamiji says not to feel bad if we are unable to donate. But, He also says to not count how much we are giving. Donations we make are opportunities for us to support Sri Swamiji’s projects and to receive His blessings and may be some good karma. Whether or not we make a donation will not affect the progress of the quality of the project whatsoever. We can only be thankful to Sri Swamiji for giving us the ability and the opportunity to contribute whatever small or big amount possible. All wealth in the world belongs to Him (since this world really comes from Him), but His leelas lead us to believe that our hard earned wealth is solely ours and we are benefiting Sri Swamiji’s projects by donating. May we always be thankful to Sri Swamiji for donations He gives us the ability to make. May we never let ego come in the way. Obeisances to the Holy Lotus Feet!

We came with nothing and will leave with nothing.. whatever in between has been given by You..how can we feel proud in giving something to You which is already Yours. Please let us always be grateful and thankful for the blessing and opportunity.

Splendid message about donation. May lord bless us all to inculcate the merit of donating needy with humbleness.

jgd very true Swami ji, yet i feel its ok for a learner because to cultivate the habit of giving donation needs some motivation like recognition or fame, though it is lower mentality one day the donor may improve with Your grace. Sharing leads to bliss let us make it a habit and enjoy onhn sgd
