  1. Interacting with people around is communication. Listening, acknowledging, responding & maintaining the right body language.. are essential components of good inter-personal communication. If you don’t like the way people respond to you, you don’t blame them. You learn to communicate properly.

Interacting with God within is communion or prayer (MMS 178, 65, 62). Contemplating, reflecting, chanting, worshipping & maintaining the right attitude.. are essential components of good intra-personal communion. If you don’t like the way your deities of devotion respond to you from within, you don’t blame them. You learn to pray properly.

    Koti pranams, Gurudeva!

You’ve taken us back to basics.. of prayer. When we hear you praying to Shiva.. with words that come from your heart, with supreme devotion & love that shine through your soulful rendering, we understand how to pray. We are so grateful to you, Master. We are following you. Jaya Guru Datta. Your Puttuji.

Jaya Guru Datta, Swamiji! What do we have if we don’t have prayer? In this perpetually changing world, the only constant in our lives is God. God is always there, wherever we may be, whatever may be happening in this crazy movie called life. How comforting that is…how fantastic that ever in our own hearts is the divine that hears us, see us, and loves us and is there to listen to us and guide us, no matter what illusion is playing out in our lives. Thank you, Swamiji, for this teaching. For reminding us to hold onto our devotion…..

    • Savitri on December 17, 2012 at 9:08 am

What is a good devotion? What is a goo prayar? Sometimes I don’t have an answer. Even when I am devot, I should be capable to make my own decisions. I should be able to iive my life without sitting the whole day in front of a picture from Swamiji and waiting on His voice. When I pray I should be with all my heart by God and by Swamiji. But when I am not capable to be so much concentrated? I think, the it is also a good prayer when it comes from heart. We should always do our best, always!

Jaya Guru Datta Appaji – this is a very important message. This becomes more apt with the invocation of Lord Parama Shiva. Lord Shiva is the easiest to please and will grant all the right boons. Shivaaya gurave namaha – Shiva and Guru are not different and praying to Lord Shiva and Sadguru for the appropriate capacity and devotion will take the devotee to the next level and closer to realization. Sri Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta,
thank You Puttuji – this mms will help me to pray properly. It also reminded me of the importance to focus first on the sitting part – before meditation. May Lord Ganapati be with us always in the beginning of praying.
    Humble pranams
    Sri Guru Datta

Shivaya Gurave Namaha! Sri Swamiji says that it is foolish to pray to God for wealth. It’s an illusion that wealth will buy us a longer life. When it’s time to go, nothing can save us, except may be our Sathguru if He so wills. So, praying for wealth is futile. Thank You, Swamiji, for the message that we should first pray to God for devotion and the ability to pray properly. With this ability, we will be able to attune ourselves with God which will unlock the door to eternal happiness and give us the knowledge to cross the ocean of samsara. Prayer and meditation give us the peace of mind that no amount of wealth can buy. Pray and surrender to the Sathguru and He will ferry us across to His world. May we only strive for devotion to Sathguru. After all, His grace is the greatest prize on earth. Obeisances at the Holy Lotus Feet!

jgd Swami Ji in Your protection its a beautiful experience to know and believe that ‘God is’ and ‘That God has taken Your form for me . Now i pray for devotion by saying thanks for what You have blessed me with and asking for if there is any need, slowly the confidence of Your being there for me and that You know every thing will make me to forget every thing else except You. All Your actions are over whelming with devotion to ‘Your Self’ because You know Who You are and like Your child i can imitate You simply by how to join my hands, close my eyes, breathe normally, sit silently with full confidence in Your holy company (in my thoughts) feel Your presence in and around, devotion for me is like being me (i) with mine. onhn sgd

“Praying” is the first step to be followed by all of us, like food gives nourishment to body, prayers are for our inner peace. True devotion is an absolute force which is source of many miracles. There is no force or material that can restrain God except for honest and true devotion. There were many examples of true devotees who were saved even from the verge of death, by God’s grace. Absolutely true, only if one has devotion one will realise the fact as to why God has blessed us with this wonderful human life! The answer will certainly be, to realise and experience the supreme force that is protecting the entire Universe. Only if we can experience HIS grace, we can realise that we seek help from God for petty things, which may be solved with little efforts by ourselves. But HIS grace is required colossally to be devoted and experience HIS omnipresence. May lord bless us all with devotion and patience to wait till God blesses us with the best and that is good for us.

Jai Guru Datta Appaji! What a Divine rendering of the Shiva Panchakshari Stothram. We are truly blessed!
Siva Siva Sankara Tava Charanam. Hara Hara Sankara Mama Saranam
    Sachchidananda Tavacharanam Tavacharanam!
It is so hard to maintain continious Devotion to You – due to the everyday chaos we deal with in our lives. Please bless us with the proper devotion, so we can be firmly rooted to your Divine Liotus Feet.
Please make our hearts your permanent home. Sri Guru Datta!

    • Madhavi on December 17, 2012 at 4:29 pm

Good devotion is necessary in order to feel Sadguru in one’s heart, to follow His guidance, to do good actions and dedicate them to Him. How difficult all this is! Oh yes, I do pray for devotion!!!
I think to pray properly means to pray for good things and not for superficial things. And also, Appaji told us previously to pray in a genuine way, to pray without seeking rewards, to pray joyfully, to pray as if everything depends on God. Oh yes, I do pray for the capacity to pray properly!!! May I be able to improve it from day to day!
    Jaya Guru Datta

Jaya Guru Datta. I pray for devotion. This is a selfish prayers because the times when I feel so much love for you in my heart are beyond words… Blissful, sublime, but really beyond description. What a beautiful feeling it is to love You. I pray to You to know how to pray. I get so confused because I see You doing the different poojas so they must be important yet I have no true interest in doing them myself. Maybe because I am not Indian. I also have no interest in Muslim or Christian prayers. Maybe because I wasn’t raised religiously. So how am I to pray to You? You are Lord Shiva, Mother Goddess, Jesus Christ and Allah…. Yet this human form You take out of compassion for us is my favorite form and I can recognize all of the Gods in You. I love you. You are the only truth that I know. Sri Guru Datta

Puttuji as you explained here, Appaji is taking us back to basis in today’s MMS. But it has got a great inner meaning. The first line, naimly Devotion itself is the basic requirement which we have to develop to interact with God. For this purpose we need a Sadguru who will guide us through the right path and make us to develop our spiritual knowledge. Once we develop our spiritual path through our Sadguru, we will realise the God. The next line Appaji says the Capacity to pray properly. In this kaiyuga most of the people always place demands and desires only to God. In otherwords interact with God in a business manner. Here Appaji always says that when the God has given this Human birth in this janma, it is already written by Him what is to be given to you and not to be given. Therefore there isno need to place any demand further. At the same time when you pray to God, you have to praise Him by chanting Mantras in which ever way and after finishing it, you have to request God not to develop Ego in our mind or in life as well as to give balance of mind to with stand any bad incidents also. This because in our life we have to face both good and bad depend up on your karma. To practice like this we need our Sadguru who will give the capacity to pray in the proper way. In otherwords Guru makes you responsible for our growth in spiritual path. The photography and Appaji’s old Bhajan is so superb and apt for this MSG. JGD.
