  1. When you look simple, everyone feels comfortable in your presence. When you speak simple words, you don’t intimidate people around you. When you practice simple methods, everyone feels it easy to follow you. When you are simple in thought, you are not confusing yourself. When you have simple beliefs, your life is simple, your mind is uncluttered, pure. The purer the mind, the easier the solution / MMS 74
When you’re humble, you keep your ego in check. You listen. You learn. You don’t hog the limelight. People open up in your presence, tell you the truth & not just what you want to hear. Since you get to understand reality, you are more likely to deal with it appropriately. EGO – Edges Greatness Out
    Pranams Gurudeva,
Thanks a million for making us realize Simplicity & Humility are twin paths to achievement. You’re our Govinda, and in your grace, each one of us will be a Kuchela or Rukmini, in benefitting from such virtue. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji

As I pondered this message this morning, I thought about the “arrogance of youth…” How we all go through that phase where we think we know it all and that those around us are fools. Of course, eventually most of us learn that our elders did know a thing or two…maybe more. I thought about how we can become proud and manipulative because of our beauty or wealth or position of power forgetting that all are temporal. In so many legends, we see over and over again that it is not the rich and powerful, the beautiful, even the royalty who are destined to greatness, but most often a humble poor person who has the greatest destiny. Krishna was born in a prison, Christ was born in a stable, Swamiji was born in a small Indian village…..most of those who achieve real greatness have humble beginnings….Today, I remember all those who daily clean the Datta Temple in Mysore, who serve in the kitchen, who sweep the streets there…those who silently serve Swamiji and all his devotees in true humility….Jaya Guru Datta! May Swamiji bless them…

  2. simplicity in today’s modern world is not acknowledged by and large, but quite a few needs to be reformed through its value. madhu-9841288174

  3. JGD.A disciple is none but one who is under the full care and control of one’s Sadguru.Surely this will make him to be humble and simple.By virtue of these everything is possible, under the care of the Sadguru to such disciple. We can also be so.SGD

    Dear Swami AVADHOTTA
Like this video and YOUR Bahjan very much, thank YOU APPAJI.
Simple and humble is the nature of a soul, which has nothing to compensate. If we understand this reflex, we have to learn to reflect us and control us. It is a big way 🙂 Please APPAJI bless me with the strength to learn this.

Please Swamiji, help us all to be simple and humble in purity, inside as well as outside. Many act humble, say insincere words of flattery to others belittling themselves, only with an outward show of humility, but feeling superior and arrogant within. Many dress simple as a means of showing off their pretended disdain for grandeur and riches. Only Gurudeva knows the inner level of purity of His disciples. Words and appearances are often false in this world. As you have said earlier, it is important for every one of us to first be loyal and true to ourselves. Once our humility and simplicity come from the heart I am sure we will make spiritual progress. As long as they are only skin deep and come from merely the lips, I am not sure that they are helpful at all. Jaya Guru Datta

  5. JGD. With humble prostrations to Appaji, I cannot help but reflect on how You are teaching us by Your own actions. The Greatest of the greatest mingles with His devotees gently cajoling, smilingly teaching and sometimes jocularly reprimanding, yet in the forefront of your evident divinity, simplicity and humility abounds. You are my Lord, I will follow. Om Sri Krishnaya Namah.

JGD.Can achive any thing by being simple and Humble. The MMS shows Lord Dattatrya Swamiji and Lord Venkateswara. In this Kali Yuga Lord Venkateswara is the God to be worshipped. In Kali yuga the simple way to realize God is by singing Namasankeertana. This is done by His Holiness SWamiji.Lord Dattatreya who appears immedietly the moment His name is thought of.Such of a GOD and GURU are both in this MMS.Swamiji sang “yedukondalavada Govinda eedukalada neeku Govinda”,The same applies to Swamiji, there are no Equals to him, either in the PAST,PRESENT,and the FUTURE.
In the presence of such GOD or GURU one should appear simple and be Humble in word.In fornt of Almighty all are one the king and the pauper, the president or the resident of a hut.
All the wealth of Humans is waste paper in front of them. They them selves in fraction of second can make us the wealthiest or the poorest. All of us know how, ordinary people became poets, singers, and rulers, by a Glance from Swamiji.
Attaire and arrogance has no place in front of GOD and GURU.

No one in this world can beat you in being simple and humble to the core, Sadgurudeva! You are incredible! How you went by a simple auto-rickshaw late in the night to bless a woman singing the glories of God in a deserted temple! How, while sitting on a golden throne late in the afternoon giving darshan to devotees, you bent down and whispered to a devotee who had just arrived from overseas direct from the airport, tired from travel, that despite being hungry, you waited just to see him! How you rolled in anga-pradakshinam on the ground around the sanctum of Sri Datta Venkateshwara in full view of all the devotees just to destroy their sins. How you prostrate flat on the ground several times to express your devotion to the Lord, to the Vedas, and to the Guru in full view of a large assembly such as in the Nada Mantapam, in spite of your own absolute divinity. How you lavish credit upon children who serve you, to encourage them, when all their energy and talent are indeed all yours! JGD

jgd Swami ji the path shown in this video is so nice, the clear impression made by two wheels; (simplicity and humbleness) are beautiful. i know the pure surrender to Satguru prepares the disciple to achieve these qualities first, the confidence in Satguru reduces the desires by practicing detachment, singing the glory of Madhav Govinda Krishna Rama makes the disciple so peaceful and calm at heart that whatever he gets as prasada that keeps him happy and satisfied forever in The Bliss of Satchitananda onhn sgd

    Jai Guru Datta,
when I´m proud and arrogant I think I´m special and there are special circumstances for me. I may think, oh, these problem everybody is facing are not for me, because I´m special. It´s shurely not nessecary for me to wait in the queque and be treated like anybody else. But then it comes differently, like life has it´s special ways to show an arrogant person his limits, and I may get discouraged because my expectations were dissapointed and I fail to see the simple necessity to do certain things or take certain steps and I quit the scene without having achieved anything. What a waste. I´m not proud about my arrogance, but to be quite straight – the situation discribed above could be for me. Sri Swamiji is the beacon that showed me that arrogance simply misses the point. Arrogance is hollow and actually quite violent. It comes from not being connected to love, to my own heart, wich makes me feel I am indeed very simple and from there it´s not difficult to see that being simple gives space to accept the nessecity of doing every necessary step and that acceptance makes me humble. A simple and humble mind is more fit to see things just how they are than an agitated mind that is hypnotized by it´s seemingly own greatness.
    Sri Guru Datta.

    Jaya Guru Datta,
I met an older couple when I was young. This couple choose to live a simple life. They definitely impressed me by there actions. And yes, they have been very self-less actions! The couple was very much involved in worldwide peace work. They were convinced that it was their duty to help others and did not like to possess things. They would share anything and with joy! I liked to be around them, they opened my mind and gave me inspiration. Today I believe, what they had was freedom. And they were very true to their own values.
When I was young, I was able to travel with very little luggage. This became more difficult over the years. To travel with little weight makes things easyer. Same with our thoughts – lots of rubbish sometimes (like Appaji said). I would like to simplify my life again. May I have the courage to follow the path – step by step. Mentally and physically.
    Humble pranams,
    Sri Guru Datta

Jaya Guru Datta, Appaji! After many years where we have been educated or have educated ourselves in this modern world to be very ‘self-confident’, demanding and boasting, it is so soothing to be taught by You, the divine, that it is the exact opposite path which leads us to happiness. Please bless me that ‘I’ can let go of the impulses of my ego and practice simpleness & humbleness more and more. And concerning my exams next year, I know that You are the master puppet player who is guiding me and making it possible for me to be successful. Only You and Mataji & Sarasvati! Sri Guru Datta

JGD. The habit of desire and of seeking outward distractions is strong. Modern sales and marketing techniques zero in on these tendencies with scientific precision making the environment for simplicity and humility that much tougher. In spite of the temporary satisfaction of outward distraction and the ensuing disappointment, we seem convinced that this cycle of fleeting satisfaction and disappointments itself is the final reality.

How lucky am I to have Swamiji point to an Infinite Happiness, born of His slowly reducing my reflex to mentally grab at these outward distractions, slowly making my tastes more simple, patiently inching my character towards humility like the bonsai Master He evidently is. Even my luckiness is Guru’s Grace! Please accept me, please accept me please me…JGD.

Datta Sathguru, You teach us lessons in such simple words that everything seems within grasp. You are the beacon of light that lights up our path forward. The denizens of Ayodhya were simple and humble – they followed the path shown by Lord Rama. They were never arrogant. As a result, they went to Vaikuntha with Lord Rama. It doesn’t take much for arrogance to take root in our minds. A little praise from our Sathguru has the potential to make us complancent and arrogant. May we always remember this message and weed out any trace of arrogance and ostentation.
Datta Sathguru is an epitome of humility and simplicity. It is mind boggling to see Sathgurudeva, Lord Siva Himself, come down to our level and be one with us and behave like a human. Even though He knows all, He asks and questions as if He doesn’t. Even though this entire Universe is in His command, he walks about in simple saffron robes and lives in a simple place in the Ashrama. Obeisance to the Holy Lotus Feet!

Today, Appaji has given a simple and nice MMS. According to me, Appaji you are showing to us through Your teaching methods in the spiritual path, how to being simple and humble in our life. The only thing in our part is to develop the same  for our benefit and that is what Appaji is expected from us. Even all these MMS are giving us lot of knowledge in a simple way which is very much needed for us, especially  in this Kaliyuga and in this busy world. The basic thing to become simple and humble, is to control and reduce our Ego. Here I remember, Appaji’s words saying that when you go to temple, praise the Deity  with simple mantra and after that you have request the God to reduce our ego  in our life and also to give the balance of mind to face any bad karmas in our life. There is nothing to demand further from the God, since it is already written Him, when he has given this human birth. Therefore the best way is to follow our Sadguru who is the incarnation of Lord Datta himself and His teachings to develop our spiritual path. Here I even remember Appaji’ s MMS 2 , wherein He says to cultivate noble thoughts in our mind. Similarly MMS 30, 92, 153 are showing to us some of the ways to be simple and humble. If we follow thoseMMS, it will all help us tobe simple and humble and there by we can achieve  any thing in our life. The photography is very apt to the MSG since Lord Datta Venkatesa is so kind enough to fulfill the wishes of His devotees and the music is also giving a soothing effect since it is one of the old and simple Bhajan of Appaji.    JGD.

Being simple and humble makes us loveable and friendly to all. For being so one needs to have understanding that there are many more people better than us in knowledge, health, wealth, beauty and intellect. God has created each one of us special, so everyone has there own capabilities. This thought can make us more simple and humble. But this don’t mean we are inferior to anyone nor superior to anyone and only means others are equally special like us. Above all of us and all merits, we should also remember its only God’s grace for all the merits we presume to possess. By these thoughts i feel we can experience the omnipresence of God and achieve everything by experiencing Him. May lord bless us all to have heart and mind to be simple and humble.

    • Pavani Kamalapuram on April 9, 2013 at 12:39 am

    JGD Appaji
Being truly simply and humble means giving up all the responsibility to Sadguru and trusting/ surrendering to Him completely. For then, our hearts are just filled with Him.
Appaji, we will strive to kick out all our inner enemies and ego..so that we are just filled with You forever.
