  1. Dear Gurudeva,

So you’ve heard our prayers. Even after seeing 9 days of Navavarna Puja & listening to 148 MMSes, we’re still praying to find happiness in the material world. And you our benevolent Mother, in your infinite compassion & supreme wisdom, are calling it ignorance. This is what Mothers do, when their children make the same mistakes repeatedly. She can’t let them down.

We’re like that man, who on a dark night, searches for his keys under a street light, because that’s the only place he can see. Similarly, with our senses always focussed outward, we’re searching for happiness outside because that’s the only place we can see.

So, in your benevolence, you are demonstrating how to look for happiness.. eyes closed, hands folded & seated in meditation. A million pranams to you for your patience & belief.. that we’ll learn to discover that infinite waterfall of happiness inside ourselves. We will not let you down. Jaya Guru Datta, Your Puttuji.

In Prahlada Chartitra in Potana’s Telugu Bhagavatam, Prahlada declares to his father Hiranyakashipu that the true father is he, who urges his son to seek God and to merge with Him. ‘Thandri, Hari jerumaniyedi thandri thandri’. Those rare children with such rare parents who place them on the spiritual path in early life are truly blessed. Most parents who are steeped in worldliness, also drown their children in worldly values of money, fame, comfort and pleasure. We all grow up enveloped in that atmosphere of social pressure and family pressure for worldly achievement till the end of life. It is Sadguru alone who tells us to turn right around and go the opposite way to seek God, giving up our chase after external, sensory joys. It causes dismay to our near and dear ones, who at once think that we have gone mad and will heap abuse on us. What is all this, if not the play of Datta! Jaya Guru Datta

Imagine that the sky is filled with a brilliant endless white light. A thick black cloth with tiny pin holes is hiding that light from us completely. The specks of light that escape through those tiny holes are what we call stars and planets. The bliss that hides within us, is that brilliant endless white light of Truth called spiritual knowledge. The thick black cloth is our ignorance. The tiny holes through which the specks of bliss shine through are our worldly enjoyments – a tasty meal, a soft bed, the smile of our child, a fat bank balance, an entertaining movie, a compliment received, new clothes, a beautiful house, a lovely spouse, a good job, and so on. The bright sun of Truth that makes the black cloth vanish altogether is our Sadguru. In his presence all other pleasures get obscured, the way the stars and planets disappear in the presence of the Sun. If we keep clinging to the black cloth due to our love for the tiny twinkling stars, that is all the bliss that we will ever receive. It is like choosing a few granules of sugar instead of cake. Swamiji, during one of your discussions on Anagha, you once said in India that she was a master of Rasa Tantra, that she had complete mastery of her emotions.Since I have a fondness for Anagha, I grasped onto this idea and tried to learn what I could to better understand how she did that. As always, you dropped various books in my path to teach me. One was a book about how women were trained in ancient mystery schools. Part of their training was learning to feel and not feel at will so that they had total control of each of the nine emotions and their variations. I had heard you speak many times about how happiness comes from within and how it is us and not outward objects that generate that happiness. As I contemplated Anagha’s control over her emotions and this practice of learning to be able to call forth or withdraw emotions as will, I better came to understand that it wasn’t only our negative emotions like anger and jealousy we needed to control, but also our positive emotions like joy and peace and calmness. Thank you for this reminder that we have the power and ability to call forth joy at will….Jaya Guru Datta!

    Jai Guru Datta,
I think ignorance is due to the distraction from the senses. Inward happiness is subtle and outward “happiness” or sense pleasure is gross. I think being aware of the subtle happiness indside is a matter of training or educating the senses, or better the mind to decide not to go for sense gratification but for the awareness of peace and bliss within. The Kama and Karma that pulls us away from our inner awareness I think stems from fear. The fear of realizing our seperateness from god and the fear of being volnurable or the chance of becoming a victim. Then we get hypnotised be this fear and we choose to believe in something that is intirely unreal – fear. This enhances our sense of seperateness and we loose complete contact with who we actually are. Oh, dear Swamiji. Please help us to lift this veil of ignorance, indeed!
    Sri Guru Datta

  2. Jaya Guru Datta. Out of ignorance I tried to be happy by seeking sensory pleasures… Worlds things such as a physically beautiful husband, fine dining, world travel…. All sorts of hedonistic behavior. But of course none of that brings lasting happiness. It may have given temporary illusory happiness but it left me more depressed and unhappy like a drunk with a hangover. But then I cried out to Lord Shiva for help, and here I am. My beloved Satgurudeva, I beg for your help to know that which is inside. You have given us the tools of Datta Kriya Yoga, Swamiji music, mantra Japa and so much more. But I wouldn’t even be able to exist for one second without Your Grace. I cannot express how fortunate I feel to get these daily MMS messages. I pray that this knowledge is not lost on me. I love you so very much Dearest Mother. My heart cries out for You. Om Namah Shivaya. Sri Guru Datta.

    Dear Swami Avadhotta,

Jai Guru Datta! We are running and running after things outside, they seem very important as long as we don’t have them and when we have them, we quickly realise that it does not really change anything, it does not make us happy. And still, we repeat. Why is it so difficult to do the most simple, to look at what is very near? As near as the eyelids to the eyes? Such is the power of illusion! Only our Sadgurudeva in His infinite grace and compassion can make us make the turn. He put the illusion into this world, so He will help us to get out of it.Datta’s leela. He is giving us all the tools, we have to use them and discover the infinite bliss.

Rainbow is seen only when there is a deflection of white light. The permanent truth is white light and the illusion is rainbow. What seems to make us happy is not what it really is. Our monkey mind is so deluded that it perceives external factors make us happy. Money, we think can buy everything. While it is true, the permanence of all our acquisitions is so transient. Not too long before we get bored of a new car/home/clothes..Oh Appaji, help us stay away from these distractions. Help us grow out of ignorance. Help us realize the permance of absolute truth. Jaya Guru Datta!!

    • Venkat on October 26, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Jaya Guru Datta – wonderful quote and a piece of music. The music is in such a way that it will turn the listener inside in “search” automatically. in search of what? whatever you want to find… if it is ‘you’ – you can find yourself and that is nothing but real happiness. if that is ‘God’ – still you will realize that it is nothing but you and you will be happy. This MMS, somehow, reminds me of a very famous quote of Appaji – ‘no God no peace – know God know peace’. Where is God? within is the answer that comes immediately. So also, Appaji is advising all to internally look for happiness as it cannot be found elsewhere. Thank You Appaji

    • on October 26, 2012 at 2:11 pm

    Jai Guru Datta,
I´m very shy to comment this mms, because I know about this truth, because you Apaji once in London (16 years ago) knocked my head and said to me ” Relax, take easy, you must be h a p p y ! ”
I followed you knock. So my comment to your mms are your own words Apaji. Words that I see every day on your Photo (one of those released for your 60th birthday) “We can´t rid the world of sorrow but we can choose to live in joy.”
Again and again I will choose joy- even in this hard days I have to face. I love You, Chitrangi

The inner senses had to be evaluated to see the light. Swami Ji shows his light through my experience of the outer material world. I cannot close the whole time my eyes and wait for the light. I have to do my work and wait in his feets for his Light. Sometime nothing. Another time with many intervals He shows his Light in a very concentrated Form. Till now I don’t understand everything, but Swami Ji is very special and I thank his grace

    Jaya Guru Datta
We all know that happiness and sorrow triggered externally are only short living companions. Moreover, it seems that happiness can not live without sorrow like day and night. Sri Swamiji tells us that our true nature is eternal bliss, the nature of our inner Self. So it is much more wise to find the way to the inner Self. Sri Swamiji is taking us by the hand and with each MMS we learn to go a step ahead to our true Godly nature.

    JGD Appaji
There is a saying “Nothing can bring you peace but yourself”. If we arent happy inside, then even a beautiful sunrise or a waterfall does not make us happy. So how we perceive the external world depends on how we are in our internal world. To achieve peace internally we need to constantly listen to Appaji’s music and follow His teachings closely.

Jaya Guru Datta! Thank you, Appaji & Mataji, for taking me gradually from a 18-year-old boy looking out for wealth, fame and status symbols to a new set of spiritual goals. It was only You who – without me knowing or realizing – cleansed me step by step in order to free myself from these outer goals which is still continuing, of course. Only later did I realize that Your power was behind all this. And yet, I fall prey to laziness too often when it comes to do sadhana. How much You must love us all to be so compassionate and patient with us. This is a great wonder! Sri Guru Datta!

    • on October 26, 2012 at 6:11 pm

Dear Sri Swamiji, I am continually faced with the ignorance I carry. It matters not how many years I have been on the spiritual path, as long as I have attachments to “others” and look for “things” I will not experience the liberation from this mask of maya. I pray to always remember my Datta Sadguru in order to overcome the shortfalls of my ignorance. Praying that your infinite compassion is felt by me. Sri Guru Datta

    Ignorance – 26 oct 2012

We look for happiness in external and materialistic objects or activities. The so called happiness or good- feeling derived from these sources is fleeting. When we recollect these incidents at a later date, it does not make us happy. Why is it so?? This is because happiness is with in us and not outside. We fool ourselves into thinking that by indulging in materialistic things we can be happy.
On the other hand, when we sing the names of God, sit down calm and contemplate, it gives a sense of joy, as we connect other our inner self, which is ever- happy. When we recollect times spent in Sadguru’s presence even years later, it still brings us joy. Sri Swamiji is telling us again and again to turn inwards and understand the reason we are here and grow spiritually. But because of our ignorance, we are shrouded in this darkness. Only Sadguru can help us overcome this ignorance, by washing it away like the forceful waterfalls seen in the video. The beautiful healing music in the background calms our mind and provokes us to contemplate. Jaya Guru Datta

    Jaya Guru Datta Putuji,

Beautiful MMS message and excellent analytical explanation by Puttuji.
Mind obeys the orders of sense organs and acts accordingly, if we are satisfied we feel happy otherwise unhappy….and we repeat the same again and again. Pujya Sri Swamiji in the form of Mother Goddess out of compassion and love for his children is saying as ignorance. I pray Pujya Sri Swamiji to give us knowledge to lift us above this and find true happiness inside.

    Sri Guru Datta

    • Joseph on October 27, 2012 at 12:59 am

Why are we lacking the knowledge of self? Perhaps we are attempting to learn repeatedly and also forgetting repeatedly due to lack of practise. For example, we attend theory classes of computer course and not practical aspect of it, after due course of time we tend to forget theory or is of no use until theory learnt is applied practically. Similarly, all of us are learning mind is the seat for happiness or unhappiness and happiness is within us, but we are failing to follow this in our day to day life. I pray my Lord to bless all of us to experience the true happiness within us to lead a contended and happy life.

  4. Jai Guru Datta, true happiness lies near guru charan. I pray to you, please always stay in my heart so that I just have to look inward to find the happiness and not chase the external happiness which is nothing but an illusion.
    Pranam Sadguru

Jaya Guru Datta! It has been only by Pujya Sri Swamiji’s grace that I have understood this premise. I used to think I was always happy until I realized that the happiness I was experiencing was fleeting. A lot of my happiness came from what I had considered as successes in life and from being surrounded by my loved ones. After losing a loved one, I’ve realized over the years that relying on the externalities in the world for happiness is like a mirage. It seems to quench your thirst, but it doesn’t really exist. Because, all externalities are a creation of the mind and impermanent. I try to remind myself that I am just as impermanent so I should think of where all this creation came from. Sometimes, when I do my prayers, I find tranquility that seems to be independent of everything outside. I can’t summon that calmness on demand, I can’t experience it everytime I pray, I can’t even hold that peace throughout my little prayer session yet. I only know now that it exists inside of us. I think I see the tip of the mountain of peace from hundreds of miles away. It’s a long journey to the mountain, but Appaji is navigating as long as I’m willing to move towards it. Obeisance to the Holy Lotus Feet!

    Ignorance ~ 26 Oct 2012

Desires are nothing but an expression of our ignorance about our real nature. This ignorance has made us identify with body, mind and intellect, and is the cause of our egocentric life of pains and limitations. To realize our full spiritual Nature is to experience the fullness of life.

The cause of all restlessness, quarrels, fights, dissensions, is Ignorance. Selfishness, greed, pride, egoism, hatred are all born of Ignorance; they are products or modifications of Ignorance. The person who has realized the oneness of life, the unity of consciousness will never engage himself in strife or quarrel. The removal of ignorance alone can stop all dissensions and restlessness.

Guru alone dispels the darkness of ignorance and stands before us as a luminous sun of knowledge. I pray and beg pujya Sadgurudeva to remove our ignorance and guide us to eternal bliss. Jaya Guru Datta

Feeling of happiness, i feel, emnate from with-in which is driven by contentment. Contentment comes when we know how to control our mind and the delusionary rat race it makes us engage in. The beautiful MMS with Pujya Appaji in a radiating smile reminds me of the Guru Ashtakam and pray our thoughts permeate with the devotion and love towards Pujya Appaji..which again has to come from with-in.

what a beautiful visualization with sri swamiji and the wave interference, ever new configurations of the same Divine water. it makes me think of just being «a condition of god like the wave is a condition of the ocean» (hazrat inayat khan, the great sufi master and founder of the sufi order international in Geneva 1920). where to find happiness and more than that – eternal ananda – but in Him? and then the image turns out into His/Her creation, the beautiful flowers in front of what I imagine to be a temple. may we become sweet fragrant flowers to be blissfully offered to our beloved sadguru deva.
