  1. Size can be misleading.. Those small bonsai plants are as potent as their full size counterparts. Those small boys are as potent as their elders when it comes to their potential for self-realization.
There are apt examples of great souls that have attained self-realization when they were very young.. from Adi Shankara to our own Appaji, and then to Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji.
    Pranams Sathgurudeva!
We salute you for urging the young to strive towards self-realization. When we see you and our beloved Swami Datta Vijayananda Teertha, we know spirituality is not for the aged and the infirm. It is tough work for the body, mind and soul.
As the body ages, its ability to support a sound mind decreases. And the mind is THE instrument and medium for Self-realization.
So, the earlier we get started, the better we are in our pursuit of self-realization. Thanks a ton for this wake up call. We are following you.

Jaya Guru Datta Appaji – This is reminding Appaji’s advice to be God-conscious when there is energy to go over austerities. God realization is not something to try your hand/luck at when all else fails. This is not something to be done as a pastime activity. everyone is supposed to be serious about it. There is also a saying in Telugu, thought not very appropriate “మొక్కై వంగనిది మ్రానై వంగునా?”. Thanks a lot Appaji for reminding us all about this most important task.

Jaya Guru Datta! This message is filled with hope! It offers our young people an alternative to the negative lifestyles our cultures emphasize. Thank you Swamiji for always being forward thinking and planning for the salvation not just for those of us who are with you now, but for all future generations! Sri Guru Datta!

Jaya Guru Datta. Please help us Mother. I think we should live in the house in Frisco but my husband wants to settle in New Jersey. Will you change his heart or make circumstances take us to Texas? If this is the right thing, I pray for your help. You know I only want for my children to escape this world of sorrows. Please take them and make them like you, my Lord. I love you so very much and beg for your help. Om Namah Shivaya. Sri Guru Datta

Jgd Prostrations to the lotus feet. One should practice the spiritual path from childhood, or else it will not be possible to reach the goal . Everything is possible ONLY with the Divine grace of Sadguru.

    • on March 13, 2013 at 2:12 pm

Through this MMS, Appaji is reminding us again the importance of following the spiritual path. Puttuji you have also given a good explanation for the same. From the photography it is clearly seen how the young Veda boys are so energetic and strive for their selfrealization . Here we have to see even how much importance our Appaji is giving for Veda, for which even a Veda school is running in our Ashram by Him. Here those boys are learning Veda and even at one stage we can see , those boys are able to do independently the Homas. Those who are visiting our Ashram regularly can see such improvement in them. Similarly according to me Appaji wants us to follow the spiritual path from our young age itself. But in this Kaliyuga people are misleaded by worldly pleasures and unwanted desires , sothat they will not think about the spiritual path. But at one stage they realize such things are not permanent and at that time they will think about the spiritual path to get ultimately peace of mind. But here according to Appaji it is too late since their body and mind will become very weak to follow the spiritual path. That is why through this Veda boys, Appaji is alerting us the importance of the spiritual path. Thank you Appaji to remind us in time and indirectly He is giving us a warning to bring our children also to Ashram and follow His words and teachings. The Bhajan is also very apt for this MSG. JGD.

    Jaya Guru Datta,
While young we are very busy meeting friends and have fun. Afterwards in married life we are busy bringing up the children and working for the family. Later we get old and it might get difficult to sit and meditate or do Hatha Yoga. The body might be weak by then. Better I start today then later – there will be never “the time” to DO IT. What I have is only the moment of today. What tomorrow brings knows only God the Almighty. May Lord Dattatreya help me on my way.
Thank You Appaji for being with me while I am praying.
    Sri Guru Datta

An excellent MMS that says when to start or begin our journey with Sadguru for self realization and to enjoy the bliss that comes out of it. At the young age mind is free of baser qualities like selfishness and sense pleasures. As the age grows one will be in clutches of of selfishness, may be because of the pressing needs at that hour. Thoughts would be centered about family, children, assets and wealth. All actions will be performed with selfish motto and one follows the dictates of their desires without utilizing their intellect and will for self-improvement, that finally further enmeshes in bondage. Hence the right age is the Young age. With the guidance of Sadguru one can over come the pitfalls, perform actions as duty with detachment, thus the mind becomes purified and would be fit to receive the spiritual message. fine message Appaji. Jayagurudatta

The very purpose of Janma is to strive and reach Brahman. Unfortunately, in this world all else has become primary, and exploring for Brahman has no place…and if does acquire some significance, it is later in life, when we are hardly fit for anything. With Appaji’s grace, we are given the Viveka to strive for Brahman from now itself. We are given the tools to do it. It is our turn to take that step. For every one step we take, He is guiding and showing the path worth 100 steps. Sadguru Prabho! It is not being easy. Yet, it does not have to be difficult with Your presence. Prayers to Your Lotus Feet for continued strength and guidance. Sri Guru Datta.

    • Archana Penukonda on March 14, 2013 at 10:46 pm

Jaya Guru Datta! I’ve seen this message repeatedly from Swamiji. This message is important because it’s not something we can learn from experience. If we realize when we are old that we are too old and our body too infirm to support our sadhana, we don’t have the luxury to turn the pages back to our youth. This message brings to mind the Bhaja Govindam song by Adi Shankaracharya who says that childhood is spent in playing and youth in the pursuit of love/women. Old age is spent worrying over everything. When do we ever have the time to think about God? One of the Twelve Directives of Swamiji also says “Strive to cross the ocean of samsara before your body becomes weak”. I am not a child, but by Swamiji’s grace, I hope I can make good of the time I have left. It is so wonderfully humbling to see young children living in the Ashrama and learning the Vedas. Pranams at the Holy Lotus Feet!

  5. Our humble pranams at the holy feet of our Sadguru.
Most of us enjoy the materials of life in our young age and postpone attending satsang and doing some namasankeertana for our old age. But when we are old our body fails us, our sense organs fail us. We won’t be able to do anything at that time. So we should strive for self realization when we have the energy by following the path shown to us by our Guru. It is much easier for the Vedic boys because they follow strict discipline in every aspects at a very young age. Jai Guru Datta.

Jaya Guru Datta Appaji. This is very well explained in the Burra Katha of Appaji’s life history in a very good bhajan kind of song. the birth got after so much difficulty and prayers cannot be simply wasted without reaching its goal. Thanks a lot Appaji

    Jaya Guru Datta Appaji_/\_!!

Sachchidananda Niti Mala ( Knowledge of the self):

It is very difficult to be in the world and perform actions without any selfish motive. Only a man of complete dispassion and detachment can do selfless actions in the strict sense of the term. Any work once begun if it should remain incomplete due to unforeseen causes, it will not go without its fruit. This idea appears in the Bhagavad Gita also. “In this (Karma Yoga) there is no waste of the unfinished attempt nor is there production on any adverse effect”. (Verse 40 Chap.2)

    Sadgurudeva: Jnaana Saagar I,
“Sarva karma parityāge tasya devasya darśanam”
If you sacrifice all actions, you will have the vision of God. It means “do your duty without any desire”. If one works and meditates with a pure and unwavering mind and without any desire, one can have the vision of God. Sri Guru Datta !!

    Sadgurudeva: Sivarathri, Mysore Ashrama,March 7,1997:.
Karma is like a house lock. Imagine a house lock. You put the key in the
lock and turn it clockwise, it opens. Turn it anti clockwise, it locks.
Likewise Karma acts both ways. It locks as well as unlocks – it
imprisons you as well as frees you. Some say that karma always imprisons
you. That is wrong. If we do our Karma in a selfless manner, our
previous bad Karma gets erased. There can be no bargain. If you do half
selfishly and half selflessly, then it will not work.
Sri Guru Datta !! Om Namo Hanumathe Namaha !!

When the plant is young, we need to cut the additional branches so that the trunk becomes strong and eventually it flourishes into a grand tree. Similarly our spiritual journey is so young, lets cut the negative branches by following Appaji so that our base becomes strong. And no matter what our age, it will remain strong…even for future births

As a Young one, one does not feel like a scholar, at least I didn`t .
So it`s a grace, when parents lead their children in a spiritual way to self realization.
    Karma will do its best.
Later on, when we realize the importance of good training, it may be sometimes too late,
    because old age is coming.
So, let`s do the best for our physical and mental health, so that we`ll have a long life span
    to train.
So that a clear spark will remain after our death .

Self-realization is long process because of our attachment with body and ego. This message is absolutely true, while young and energetic one should strive for self-realization. May lord bless us all with the zeal for self-realization.
